I started to go to therapy this year and I have a problem with sticking with just one issue and I always get lost in my thoughts. I feel like I always talk bout things without any direction. Guess I'll start taking notes, thank you! Have a nice day!

This is super helpful, thank you!!! Do you have a video about the types of therapy (like CBT and other alternatives)? I would love to see a video or series of "what kind of therapy is best for you?" Because I think that would be super helpful when finding the right therapist. It would be unfortunate to dedicate several months to a therapist only to realize their methods don't work for you.

Hi ! She did make a video about that : it’s her second video called “which type of therapy is right for you” where she talks about the different types of therapy and what they focus on 😉 It’s very interesting and I definitely recommend watching it 👍🏻 Have a great day !

A distinction should be mentioned about the differences between therapy and counseling. This is so important in the initial mental health professional search process.

If you don't clean out your fridge food gets moldy, keep ignoring it and you give the mold more time to grow. It's interesting because at one time that dish would have been something that gives health to us. Your video is provoking thought....thks🙂

I don't know if this is normal or if there's a problem with my therapist, but I've been in therapy with a CBT-oriented therapist for the last 5 weeks or so (a session every week), I think I've communicated clearly from the outset what my goals in therapy are, but so far it seems most sessions he's just been asking me questions and gathering information (which is not always clearly related to the issue), often making follow up questions. I've been very cooperative in answering the questions in a truthful and thorough way, but there hasn't been much in the way of suggestions or things I could be trying to solve my issue. The only homework I got was journalling my feelings when I'm experiencing the problem I'm there to solve, which has been tough because I often have to try very hard to make out what the feelings are (they're very subtle and not intense), and if I'm not next to a computer or something to write them down with, I probably won't be able to remember them later, and when I do remember there's not really that much to tell (e.g. I was bored, I was distracted with my random thoughts about random things, I was hungry, etc.). I don't know if this is the normal way CBT is supposed to be done, or if the progress is too slow and whether I should be concerned about that. I'm in no rush, maybe it's just that there's too much information to unpack and the best course of action is to continue unpacking over the course of more weeks and months, but a part of me wonders whether that's the best I can do or if the therapist or CBT is the right thing for me.

Should people have only one therapist? I have multiple issues I want to work on, and one or two of them would require a therapist who specializes in them. What if you can't find a therapist who has experience in every area you want to address? Would you recommend getting a therapist for each issue or finding one who is willing to try to learn and work on the other topics with me?

Hi Dr. Ana, what about starting therapy for a person with a lot of trauma? Most of it is from childhood however some of it is from bad choices made as an adult. Should this person still go to a regular therapist? Thank you for these videos

I have my first ever therapy session soon and am very nervous, also because I'm not sure what to talk about. I kind of made the decision to try therapy because I want to work on some deeper issues /subjects, but I feel weird coming up with this in the first session without knowing the therapist and without knowing they're a good fit. Do you have any advice on that? Do I have to know in the first session what I want to talk about or can I figure this out on the way?

Holy bleeding hell on your third point. I have had a schizophrenic break and a suicide attempt, unpleasant friendships with people that got addicted to drugs, horrible secrets revealed within my family that some are still resistant to being revealed, a close family member try to commit suicide and best friend tried to commit suicide over Christmas, and a repeated suicide attempt by one of them after that. How lovely it must be to not know what you want to talk about.
