Thanks for sharing Karen.. I pretty much do the same as you. I use pig oil with sulphur, snd buy extra sulphur powder to add in also. It helps with mud fever. My ISH has heart bar shoes on with graduated heels and nothing I have tried stops the snow balling up in his shoes. Last week he was literally standing on 4in of compacted snow balls. I had to keep picking his feet out leading him across the field. Poor lad struggling to walk. I also feed warm wet feed before I turn out onto frozen grass, to counteract colic. Positivity is the best thing and we will all make it thru. Only 25 days to the shortest day ❤❤

Im soo glad I can afford livery! Gawd the memories of being on D.I.Y. style livery when I was a teenager during two of the worst winters (and hottest summers in between) in living memory would put anyone off having horses!! 😱

We find the opposite problem with grease in necky rugs with Blue. Gotta keep cleaning his or it rubs out. All the others it works a treat for, although I tend to oil the mane rather than the rug

Hi Karen, these are brilliant tips. I wish I had thought of insulating the water buckets when I had ponies. When I used to ride in the snow, the ponies hooves used to get packed with snow. I was tired of having to keep dismounting and picking their feet out. I tried using some hoof oil or vaseline in their hooves, which worked well. ❤️🐎

Hiya Thank you, yes insulating the buckets has made such a difference for me during the winter, It’s a nightmare isn’t it when the hooves get packed with snow ⛄️

First 🤣🤣,, Hello Karen glad to see you were not flooded,, we had a bit of snow, horses didn't mind it too much its the wind and driving rain they don't like ,,, and then yesterday it was 17 degrees wish mother nature would make her mind up... We buy a lot of yard useful items from the builders merchants saving loads of money.... I mentioned rubber matting which you said you'd love but its expensive, we got ours from a carpet lino warehouse we had to cut it to size and it's just as good as the equine retailers sell . Did you manage to find anywhere that sold straight barley? Lidl do the small bags, there's a hunt yard over the hill am going to see if they use it and where from,, will let you know... Did you find out what the little bumps Willow had were? ,,,, thanks again,, till next time 👍

Haha well done 🥇 Hello 👋🏻 yes I think it’s definitely wind and constant rain that they struggle more with, This weather really is a nightmare isn’t it, it was so warm here over the weekend but then we had torrential rain from storm Bert 😭 I definitely need to look more into getting some rubber matting from where you suggest, it will definitely be better for the horses No I haven’t managed to get any straight barely yet, we have a Lidl opening this week near us so I will definitely go and get some from there to start him on, it really worked amazing for him when he was on it before The vet was here last week to see Ebby so I got them to look over willows bumps, there not worried about them and just think there a sweat rash from where it’s been so warm and having a winter coat, One side has basically cleared up but still a few spots on the other side, they just said to keep washing and creaming like I have been Till next time 👍
