For 50 plus years my brother has been a farrier. My wife has bred pedigree dogs for neigh on 25 years. Yesterday she drove to Alaska to breed two of our girls. I won't see my wife until the new year. Your video sums the joy, the satisfaction and the commitment animal husbandry requires. Aside from these sweet videos there are days and years of 'work' viewers don't see. Believe it or not... You have made my Christmas.

Lots of good news - a Gator will be coming into your life to make things easier soon; it looks like Ziggy will be staying (yay!); Tiny stays nice and warm in cold weather; Nigel is using his tent; a new horse might be coming soon; and Huckleberry is so smart to tell you he is too cold to stay outside anymore. Yes, your life is not for everyone. I think it is wonderful! I used to have a job (feeding, grooming, walking, grazing, lunging, training sometimes, trimming goat and sheep hooves, clipping, and bathing them - yes, I washed the sheep with Woolite! ) taking care of a llama, a sheep, 2 Pygmy goats, a miniature donkey, and 1-3 ponies/mini horses. My husband came to work with me one day. His summary of my job was - “This is soooo boring. How can you do this job 4 days a week??!!?”. I was deliriously happy, and it was my best job ever!

If you are a hard worker it ends up being like therapy. I had twelve, had my barn designed and set up to assist in making the job easier on me. A nice tractor and equipment to assist with snow removal and ease of getting around the pastures. It was a ton of work, but I absolutely loved it. I am old now, no more horses. If you love horses, it doesn't feel like work at all. I used to get up at 4 in the morning to take care of my own three. I personally loved everything about it, riding in the early morning and all the barn's different aromas. Someone once asked me why I was willing to do all that work, and I just said, because that's me, it's who I am. My brother had a horse, and he would sometimes put him in the backyard of our house. and I can remember going outside as a toddler and walking between his legs, or patting his belly. Prince was careful of where I was evidently because I was never hurt. But that's the very first moment of bonding with a horse I suppose, and they've had my heart ever since. You do such a great job with yours, and work hard to properly maintain them, and if that's not love, I don't know what is.❤

I have a backyard full of miniature horses that have physical issues or serious emotional issues and I provide sanctuary for them. They just hang out in a little herd and they are happy as can be. They are not riding or driving ponies. Just giving at risk horses a soft place to live out their days is a beautiful thing and it’s all they want.

@lynnegee6814 if the fence is real stable that's a really good idea. She put a frame, but it's going to be the sides and top that will remain flimsy. But Nigel wouldn't like it any other way.

I love your life, snow and all (winter is my favorite season, as I run pretty hot). Scarlett cracks me up only putting her head in her stall so she can eat her hay. Maybe we'll see her use it when it gets really cold, snowy and blowy :) I love so many things about what you do. Today's favorite is how accommodating you are toward each lucky, lucky horse in your herd. If Scarlett wants to stay outside, you fix it so she can. Nigel hates coming in, so you've rigged him a shelter outside. Horses like everyone else are not one-size-fits-all. Your in-tuness with them and finding ways to make each of them happy are wonderful. I often want to call your herd The Herd of Misfit Horses, but am concerned some people might think I was being insulting when I love how individual they all are, have had some bad starts in life, and have landed in the best place in the world for misunderstood horses. Thank you for all that you do for them and letting us tag along, CC.

When I watched Scarlet refuse to come in I wondered if perhaps she was afraid you'd close the door so she wouldn't be able to go back out, so by just putting her head inside she was making sure she could be outside.

I've been horse "crazy" since I can remember and have been blessed to have several over the years but the one I was most gratified to help was a member of a herd I didn't own but managed. He was bought by the owner sight unseen and when he arrived he was so thin I'd put him on the scale they use to measure thin-ness at, at about a 1 or 2. I wasn't even sure he'd make it through the night. Long story short, I spent the winter re-feeding him and by summer he was unrecognizable. He turned out to be a really beautiful appaloosa with the sweetest personality and was well trained as well. I get why you do what you do and when you're like us the "work" really isn't work in the sense that it is empty time wasters like most jobs. It's beyond satisfying to see a sweet soul begin healing. You go girl! (:

Love your videos! Your knowledge and love for your horses is top notch. Keep doing what you can to help those 🐎 that you can help. Nigel is something else. I agree with your hubby that seem to be drawn to ziggy calm nature. Thsnow and the mountains are preparing me for winter out here in the Buckeye state.

Of course, your husband loves Ziggy, as we all do! "Everyone Loves Ziggy". Such a sweet guy and he's so attached to you. 😍❤❤ P.S. What our cat rescue did for feral barn cats was to get styrofoam coolers, glue the tops on, turn them over, cut a door in them, and add straw. The cats really appreciated them in the coldest months. Maybe Tiny would like that?

That’s a brilliant idea! Never would’ve thought of it. I think a lot of cats would like those.

@@fleetskipper1810 They're the best shelters because they're insulated! Very cozy for the kitties. Just put a brick on top to keep it steady.

When you love horses and want the best for them you just do the work every day. I’m 78 and still doing it for mine. Keeps you out of trouble😂
