I have anticipated each new video in this series as much - if not more, than any television series I have ever watched. This is certainly where KZbin shines, and Lou is a bright star in what this medium can do. Bravo.

Watching Lou makes a perfect end to a hard day at work. He is a character and an artisan and wonderful to watch.

I really don't understand how you received any negative comments. Every step of building was clear and concise. Just a very honest series at the hands of an expert. I must also comment on the quality of the video itself, and the camera work involved in showing every detail, that doesn't happen by just shooting a video, the lighting and editing, did nothing but show that was also done by an expert. Louis, I sincerely hope that you can continue with other projects! You have my gratitude, thanks for sharing

Zig Zag I feel you, unfortunately there are some disturbed people out there that simply have to shit on anything that is truly good and wholesome. There is absolute no reason for anyone to object to any of Lou's videos. His craftsmanship is impeccable, the design pure and he checks his ego at the door. This man should be considered a national treasure like the Japanese honor and cherish their Master Craftsmen.

You never really know what someones reason for disliking is though, mightve been a misclick. Or a boat killed their whole family and their on a revenge spree on all boat videos.
@TheMightyJudo7 жыл бұрын
Last episode featured the Hawes pipe fittings, and rather than buy expensive fittings for the boat he fashioned some out of plastic. There were a lot of negative comments from people who didn't think the plastic fittings were good enough for such a beautiful boat and thought he should have gone a different route. I think he made a good decision and it looks nice. Anyone that bothered by the plastic can buy better fittings when they build their own boats.

The haters rarely leave a reply explaining what they don't like. I think Louis can take a few negative comments. At least give him a chance to explain why he did something a certain way.

This is one of the all time greastest hidden craftsmen gems on you tube ever. I love that you show that even experts in their field improvise and don't always use the standard methods. It really inspires people to not be afraid and get their hands in there and just start working on things. Fantastic work.

Lou, you're a true craftsman and educator, of the highest rank. Your passion comes through loud and clear in these videos. Why isn't the Discovery Channel pounding on the door of your workshop?

Looking Great!!! Just like all previous videos, this gets me on the edge of my seat waiting for the the next video in line. I am just as charged, with the latest videos as I am with the firsts. Also, in Episode 31 Lou mentioned about another project, after this skiff is completed. That just kicked it up another notch or two for me. I gotten accustom to watching Lou's magic, with his craftsmanship and waiting to learn more. Thanks Lou; guys like you are hard to find.

I am very confident that the very traditional techniques displayed by Lou in shaping the stem head, so seemingly simple and clear, would, in my hands, have resulted in disaster. Neither the saw cuts nor the hole would have been square or symmetrical. It also takes a lot of guts to start drilling holes and cutting away on a piece that could not possibly be repaired, right at the end of the build. No do-overs. Yes, he's showing us how to do things, but he's also showing the culmination of a lifetime working with wood.

Hi. What a wonderful series you have created. I have followed your every section, with great interest. I myself am a musical instrument maker. I am 54 years old today, with lots of construction experience. What I know and that catches my interest. Is your experience. Nothing can be created without craft knowledge based on experience. Your series here on KZbin, got me to fixate on boats. In my future I will build.

Thank you and keep them coming!

I have really enjoyed all your videos on this boat build. I think you manner of expression is also very interesting. What caught my attention initially is you vast knowledge, simplicity and common sense. I find a great similarity between you Sir and the late George Carlin. I’ve always thought Mr. Carlin was exceptionally intelligent, he did have a rough way of expressing him self but nonetheless was very intelligent. Some of your mannerism and way of expression is similar minus the rough language of course. I hope that doesn’t offend everyone, I mean it as a compliment to you both. Exceptional work!

Seeing the screen sandpaper reminds me of a story.... Years ago I owned a wooden Bluejay. The checks in the bottom made a decent paint job impossible. Also, I had some screws popping. I didn't know what I was doing but Ace Hardware had an epoxy product intended for grouting electrical conduit in concrete. This was epoxy mixed with stone and I covered the entire bottom intending to sand back to wood. I did but it took nine long months of hand sanding using screen sandpaper dunked in a bucket of water every minute or two. Get home from work, eat and sand. The resulting paint job looked great.
@VibratingDolphinNow7 жыл бұрын
I'd rather sail than sand personally but good on you for sticking to it

Wooden boats are high maintenance. But it worked out okay, I sailed the summer and repaired in the cold seasons. But coating the bottom with rock - that has got to rate towards the top of the stupid scale.

In the trade we would pour out and scrape the thickest component's can best we could. Then add the thinner activator to the base can, stir to combine then add that mixture to the bucket and stir. Last step is to add some of the mixed epoxy to the activator can and dump that back into the bucket and stir again. This way you get all the material out of the two cans, you've stirred the bejeebers out of it, and best of all you have two cans that will have cured resin inside both cans which can be disposed of properly and legally. You've also allowed the mixture to cook a bit which is generally a good thing assuming you have enough pot life. 25 years of industrial coating experience.
