one of the greatest pieces of advice I received was to stop thinking about the audition as an audition and realize its really a gig in itself...you already got "this" gig,,,its your time to go do a performance!! part of your job is auditioning,,,thinking I have a gig made me excited to go show my stuff for this one unique opportunity and makes it fun when you tell yourself you have a 10 minute show to do..go get em :)

I still remember when you said to think of these nerves as EXCITEMENT to be auditioning!! Changes my entire outlook. Now I can hardly wait to get in a room!!! LOVE LIVE AUDITIONS!!!

I'm so awful with auditions! On stage I'm fine and not nervous at all but in front of a small group I start shaking so bad! My mind isn't even nervous. I think I just have nervous energy.

Fear and excitement are the same physiologically inside the body. I remember feeling nervous during a read, and I harnessed that energy into being excited! It worked great! Thank you for sharing this video with the world. 1❤

I was so completely nervous for an audition once, and before it was my turn to get up and read I just thought "I need to be here, in the moment" so I did that so much that I tripped over a chair during my audition and that brought me back to nervous hahaha. But this is really great advice.

I have found that when you let go of any and all expectations for an audition, the nerves seem to vanish in an almost "well, whats the point of making him nervous anymore?" kinda way... Walk in, do your best, do it well, walk out, start planning dinner and forget about it. Just a thought!

This video made me think of martial arts, how it teaches you to use the energy of the opponent to disarm them. I have been assaulted by my nerves on occasion, and last summer came to some peace around the idea, "Be you; the universe will adjust."

Amy I have been a huge fan of yours for a while now and the advice you offer is wonderful. Many of your techniques you talk about have definitely come in handy literately. I used to get really nervous when auditioning and still do at times but I have overcome them with the attitude that "this who I am" and I forget who's in the room no matter how many people or cameras are their. I just let it all go and let my instincts and training take over. "This is who I am" and I started getting call backs ever since. I can't pretend to be someone else.

just watched this...when I was in a performance of a small roll, I had what felt like an anxiety or panic attack while on stage and just blanked on all my lines. I had prepared and knew my lines but I remember being frozen and thinking "I'm nervous right now stop being nervous!" and that's TOTALLY what tripped me up now that youre mentioning it! We must accept we're nervous and know its okay, not try to fight it...but then what???

Hey! So i wanted to share my audition story to let people know that they shouldn't worry, my first audition was the most awful audition anyone has ever done. During the ID part, I could feel my voice breaking and, when i was asked for the body shot, so I had to walk backwards, I hit the wall and I was so nervous I just laughed. I felt such a failure and a complete idiot. But things do get better, even if the nerves are always there. The video is super right!

I have this problem all the time, My acting instructor taught me 'breathing tehniques',,, but what are your thoughts about anti-anxiety medicine before walking in the audition? They were helpful once and I booked. Not a good idea all the time?

Hi Amy! I would like to know if you have a full length online acting workshop. It would be exactly like the ones coaches have in a classroom. But this is possibly streamed live. I would like something solid that I can add to my resume. Thanks :)

I can’t say I ever had major audition nerves. Then I never aimed to make my living as an actor. I think I have the wrong face for comedy and the wrong body for my face. Then, I get nerves when it comes to working on as script so I think that’s the same thing.

Hi Amy what an interesting tip. So to address the combat energy, can we redirect elsewhere coz I find breathing exercises or other techniques to calm me down doesn't really work. Like you said, it's just more energy spent on trying to to diffuse the nerves rather than putting it towards the actual scene I'm gonna play. I hear all the time about "using the nerves " or "give it over for the character " ... I'm just not really sure how.

Hi Amy. Are you saying that I shouldn't try and stop myself from being nervous but rather just accept that I am nervous? I am a bit confused. I get very nervous before auditions to the point where I physically shake, my cheeks will vibrate my hands will get sweaty. its bad! I am fully aware of when my nerves start to attack but I cannot stop them they overpower me all the time. I once had a casting director tell me "you did very well but you are just too nervous" and so I didn't make the cut. help!
