I just turned 54 this month and have seen and been around alot of farmers and farming in my life. I've been lucky enough to work with a few and it was loads of learning and full of ups and downs. Potatoe farmers have always interested me but here in Ohio im not sure of any potato farmers around the area. Watching your videos is pretty neat. The whole process looks interesting but also looks like a pain in the ass lol. I play alot of farming simulator and even in game most players stay far away from doing spuds lol. I enjoy doing Potatoes in the game but i know doing them in game is way way different than real life but we still get to use some really interesting equipment. I really wish i could see them done first hand i think it would be really cool to see that stuff. Farming has always been an interest of mine. Thanks for showing all you do. I think people should really be watching this sort of thing because theres far to many people out there that have no idea where our food comes from or know exactly what farmers have to go through to get that food and products to us all. Thank you so much. I really appreciate your work and this channel. Name that thing the ground hog lol. It eats like a hog
@RockyMountainFarmer3 ай бұрын
Well, thanks for the comment that was pretty awesome. I’m really glad you’re enjoying the channel potato farming is definitely a lot of hard work, but it’s worth it in the end. I know a lot of people could benefit from knowing where their food comes from.

@@RockyMountainFarmer exactly right. Was shopping with my wife and over heard this lady trying to explain to her daughter where the potatos came from and she was telling her that they come from large factories in a different country where the people grow them then put them on a boat to bring to our stores. My wife made me keep my mouth shut and it was really hard. I was going to show them one of your videos but when stupid like that is so strong I have a bit of an issue so my wife told me to just let it go. This world is so doomed lol

Since you guys seem quite happy to extend the range of your filming equipment, you might like to think about getting a 360 degree camera - maybe mount it on top of the back of the tractor cab, where it would have a good view all around. That way, the viewer can look around for themselves, and see the machine operating, or look ahead up the row.

My name for the harvester would be "Tator Levitator" and I do see a drawing of the joystick with lightning bolts coming out of it lifting a single potato into a Tonka truck on the side LoL. I do like seeing the whole operation. The only thing we haven't seen is the truck drive view yet. This does remind me of my youth when we had a 26 acre farm and a single row potato harvester. It dug the potatoes out of the ground the same way you do now and they went up about a 8 ft metal chain and just dropped them on the ground if I remember right. But that was 40 years ago for me.

Enjoying the hardest. Thanks for the ride along...those are some beautiful and BIG taters, too bad they going to chips. It's probably easier on you less equipment and labor, but why not sell them whole to the consumer? Maybe a short explanation and I love you for feeding America 🇺🇸 Maybe the " Red Russet ",
@RockyMountainFarmer3 ай бұрын
I like the name. I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos. The reason we don’t sell hole to the consumer is because the fresh sheds that take the potatoes that go into the stores. They usually send half of your potatoes back because they don’t qualify as good potatoes, it’s just so hard to make any money doing that unless you have your own processing and packaging plant. We now farm a bunch of peoples ground who used to grow potatoes for fresh and now they don’t grow potatoes at all because it’s just too hard to make any money with fresh potatoes. Granted, with that being said some years the fresh contracts are really high that’s what entices some people to do it.
@alfredomarotta66043 ай бұрын
@@RockyMountainFarmer thank you for the explanation. So us Americans eat more chip ( which is good for you ) then fresh potatoes lol. Is there a point where yall stop and pick them back up? Like a bushel or more? Or you folks just keep going no matter how many fall and chock it up to loss? I've hauled grain and while the obvious point is to not let any fall to the ground, they do sometimes shovel it off the ground and back into the truck so I was jus lt curious. Have a wonderful day!
