man if you could add a few pieces of chrome this would definitely be one of the best home made hammers. The plate brake is simple and functional but why hasnt anyone created a brake that engauges when you let off the pedal. design two pullies on the pedal linkage. when you press down the drive pully engauges when you let off the brake pully engauges. maybe this has been done but i dont recall seeing any. just throwing that out there. excellent work ty for sharing.

There is a plate below the tire that is attached to the treadle. When you remove your foot it rubs the tire to brake.

How the hammer brake works, if you take your feet from the below foot padel, you disconnect the wheel from the motor, but still there is momentum in the wheel which still will run the hammer, but in your case, you stop the hammer in on shut? will you please clarify me. thanks,

It's a piece of corrugated plastic I put on to keep the motor fan from blowing in my face.
