Good tips for us wired folk. Also try the 20% rule. Try do everything in your day, 20% slower. Make an effort to breathe slower, eat slower, type slower, talk slower. This actually has quite a calming effect on ones system.

I have mixed feelings about that kind of advice. When I'm having a flare up, that's it, I have it and I can't do anything. But when the flare up ends and I start feeling normal before it comes back again, I can behave pretty much like an athlete, ride my bike 30Km without a crash and even lift weights. I can be in that state for weeks before a new flare up starts rendering me competely useless, photophobic, tired and wired, with muscle twitches and unable to recover by sleeping. When it starts it starts. When it ends it ends. Nothing I do cause either.

Long covid survivor here and since my CFS dx I notice I can only work 3-5 months at a time then have to take 6 months off before getting a new temp assignment or job. Its not ideal but I cant seem to pace enough to keep a job long term. I also work only remotely. So far this works for me. Until I find better ways to pace and my 3 young children are older maybe I can work more hours for longer stretches. Sending all my empathy to those struggling to work while having ME/CFS, this is a tough road to travel but do not give up. Love yourself and be patient while your body heals.

This was awesome Toby. Almost everything is in this. When I get in this state, limiting screens is the biggest tip, as well as walk slower, move slower, eat slower, write slower etc. This teaches the nervous system to slow down.

Great insights and management strategies to work towards improved function. It makes sense but it’s easier said than done. Small steps forward.

Yes, a balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. Too much movement or not enough calories seems to worsen the wired problem.
