Good tips. My mom taught me to clean as you go. If you make or notice a mess, clean it up now and don't let it stack up to become a major chore. It only takes a few seconds to minutes to do and never overwhelms you. I do a full house clean only once every other week and light dust vacuum once a week. The other advantage is your house generally looks decent all the time and does not bother you as much.

Really need ti teach my kids this. They they don't care though it generally doesn't bother them until maybe maybe it's a lot. So then it's all grumbles. I wish I'd done a better job of bring this to the kitchen right away before they were older. Trying to remember myself. The blind leading the blind? Lol 🐿

I stopped trying to pick things up as I walked through my house to put things away. It added so much mental energy to my full load that I was miserable. Now I just putter around for a few minutes every day doing these tiny tasks. Being solely focused on puttering gives my mind the time to wander rather than trying o cram more into my full mind.

Your videos are always cheering Taryn ~ you identify achievable solutions to sometimes what seem like interminable problems of what to do with 'stuff''. For instance, you've made me realise today that if I put coat hooks on the back of my bedroom door to take my bulky bathrobe & dressing gowns out of my wardrobe (freeing much needed space) it makes life easier! As the bedroom door is left open all day (to let light into my hallway) the bathrobe & dressing gowns are not seen, and therefore don't become visual clutter :)

I do something similar with the walls in my shower. I use a microfiber cloth to wash myself. After I shower, I use my very simple and inexpensive body wash on the microfiber cloth to wipe down the tiles. Then the walls rinse off when my husband takes his shower. This has cut way down on the dirty build-up in the grout and stopped the mold from growing in the corners. In fact, I started doing this because the grout was so dirty, and now there's almost no discoloration at all.

Very good ideas, thank you. I found it strange that family members leave plates; cups, bottles etc all over the house. Five person household and raised two sons but I don’t remember it ever happened. Everything was brought back to the kitchen so I assumed it was like that everywhere…

Nope..I don't put a laundry basket in kids rooms... I tried that, it didn't work... I get them to bring it right to the laundry room each day en route. My youngest takes his clothes in the laundry when leaving the bathroom. My oldest throws it down/carries it down the stairs en route downstairs passed the laundry. That works great! And I don't have to collect laundry baskets. I do laundry on weekends. Air dry, but put it a on 15min warm tumble dry after and fold as I take it out warm (I do not iron). The folded piles I put in my youngest sons room on his bed and on the stairs to the 2nd floor for my oldest kid. They each have to put their clothes away when they take them to their room/before bed.

This is the best video I’ve seen in a long time and I watch a lot of KZbin. Doing things while listening to KZbin is genius. I could do three loads of laundry in one day, fold or hang up, and put away. I rather do laundry than dust. I usually opt to feather dust because I hate to move things to dust. Sometimes I thoroughly dust the room that is in my zone that week and feather dust all the other rooms. Thanks for a great video.

hampers in each room are great-i did this too--but I had to take the lids off or the kids just piled the dirty clothes on top or next to the hamper! I also experienced the problem of the kids' clean clothes piling up on the nearest chair-to the point where I dubbed it a 'chair-drobe'

Good tips! It sounds like you have a kitchen routine that's working for you, but I find it helpful to go one step farther: We load and set the dishwasher to run every night (on delay so it goes while we sleep) and complete all hand-washing to sit overnight to dry (unless something needs to soak overnight). Then I always put away all clean/dry dishes from the dishwasher and countertop while the coffee is brewing first thing the next morning. This leaves the dishwasher, sink, and countertop empty to start the day so dirty dishes easily go into the dishwasher or get hand-washed throughout the day and they never pile up (I've had to "train" my family to join me in this). I used to run the dishwasher at random times through the day when it seemed full, but then sometimes while we're generating dirty dishes throughout the day there's not an easy way to deal with them. Parts of the coffee maker are usually in the dishwasher from the day before, so that's a great forcing function - even if I wake up feeling too lazy to unload the dishwasher I have to do it in order to get my ☕️!

Just one warning tip if your dishwasher hose should break or come loose during the night, while everyone is sleeping, you will have one big flood. A flood not only in your kitchen but in any room that water can run into. The scenario happened to a co-worker of mine

For us it is decluttering - especially clothes and packing seasonal clothes away in bags. Don’t have every option in the entryway, just the coats etc you use every day. The rest go in the bedrooms. But it’s the reduction in choices that makes the biggest difference. With my skincare and hair stuff the drawers were so full of stuff I didn’t really use the everyday stuff was homeless and out on the surfaces. I do laundry every day but don’t wash, fold and put away each wash in one day. I wash and dry and leave it and then the next day put away yesterday’s wash. That way you can do it all in the morning and not have the task of putting away right at the busiest time of the day when dinner and homework etc happens. I also married a tidy person.

Great common sense tips. Love these. When our kids were little each had their own colored water cup. They were in charge of keeping track of it. They were only used for water. If you drank anything else you were to use a different cup and put it in the dishwasher immediately. It worked SO WELL. I highly recommend it. While ours matched you could have each person pick ANY type of glass/cup etc.

I do the same thing with drinkware, one cup and one glass for each, then some put away for guest. Frees up cabinet space also. Anyone want a to go cup, it is on them and I dislike those things because they have parts, and nooks get dirty. Thing with the catchall baskets, end up like the catch all chair, random screwdriver in the living room basket, remote in kitchen basket...why lol? Really comes down to training the household to put crap where it belongs and cleaning up after themselves, imo. They will appreciate it when they are on their own.
