Before two-stage foams came out, we would just cut our foams. It is easy to do. Once cut, the foams would look like a gear. Similar to Crazy Crawler Foams.

My favorite trail crawler tire setup is a somewhat stiff tire, plug the breather hole, no foams. I typically like fairly neutral air pressure so if I need to adjust the pressure I just loosen the bead lock, pull the bead out a little in one spot to let air in or out, then re-tighten the bead lock. If I'm doing it in my air conditioned house in summer before going out in blazing hot weather, I will slightly squeeze the tire to get a negative air pressure, then the air expands back to neutral pressure once I'm outside. I don't really see this as an inconvenience, when you're doing full scale off-roading one of the first things you do is adjust your tire air pressure to fit the terrain. My R/C trucks are all pretty light though, I can see where foams would be needed for heavier rigs.

The right Foams are a critical choice!! And not just for Pro Comp either... A few People say "Get Brand A, it's cheaper and as good as Crawler Innovations"..... What they FAIL to mention is - the SERVICE at CI. 👍👍 You can ask them WHICH Foams would be best. For YOUR Rig, its weight, gearing, expected Terrain and even the Climate that you'll be running in... And they'll give you an Expert answer! Yeah, I'm very Poor... But I've always understood value for money! Carmine ✈🚂🚙

Use a hot nail, cheap soldering iron, or leather punch (with unmounted tires) to put holes in the center treadline of the tire and they'll let plenty of water out spinning. I don't know why manufacturers vent the rims instead of the tires.
@RCReviewChannel5 жыл бұрын
great insight!!! I guess holes in the tires might leave customers doubting the tire. Or some might bash/abuse the rig and tear the tires. Seems appropriate though for crawlers.

@@RCReviewChannel thanks, I can't take credit for the idea (an old rcca article even has detailed instructions), but I've done it on everything from crawlers to high speed minis and 8th scale monster trucks with great success (it really reduces the wobbling on the faster cars, letting dirt out keeps them balanced much better).

newbie question: Has anybody tried using Styro Beads or Steel Beads instead of foam?
@CarminesRCTipsandTricks5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's been tried several times over the past 15 years, almost always a FAIL, from Tire Imbalance to Sidewall Damage to RUINING Wheels and even Axles! It's YOUR Rig. You're welcome to try. Who knows, you might be the one that SOLVES the issue! Just please be advised, things CAN go wrong. 😲

Try "Crazy Crawler" Foams. Unbelievable how much better the tire can work. Have a zigzag pattern for the finest grip and different hardnesses in the tire sidewall. Available for all vehicle weights. I'm looking forward to your next video !! 👍👍👍

I was just gonna add the same. 👍👍👍 I have those on both of my TRX-4s, they are amazing. I absolutely love them. Transformed the handling of the original Traxxas Canyon tires. Got softer ones in the front and harder ones in the rear wheels. And... they are waterproof. So you can vent the tires and do not have to worry of water. They are at least as good as the Proline dual-stage foam, if not better. The inner foam in the Proline dual-stage foam can handle water, but the outer foam not. They also have a really good video explaining the differences in foam density, like on side hilling: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWTcmnulqMmZgtk

Your real smart when comes to science. On sealed bead lock wheels. Have your ever squeezed the tire while tightening bead lock bolts so there is kinda negative pressure with foams? So just light pressure will collapse tire against obstacles. Almost like a suction inside the tires with foams pushing out. Vacuum from squeezing, sucking tire in. Wondering how this will work.
@RCReviewChannel4 жыл бұрын
It'll work a little bit but it's not sustainable in the long run since the tires are not perfectly sealed. Also hard the have all the tires behave exactly the same.

I have a rover that Weighs around 4KG which I used for off-road driving. Would a soft foam or hard foam be best to use in my rc tires? People say soft is for off-road and hard is for a track etc, but with the amount of weight my rover carries I’m confused which one to purchase because if it’s too soft the wheels might get too squashed. Thanks for your upload
