Nice review. A nickel gun in 38 super is a era gone by, now it's stainless in 9mm. Nickel gives you that "grey ghost" look that you would get from a custom pistol smith for a one of a kind gun. That whole concept of 38 super switch barrel, blanked out slide and nickel finish gives the feeling of what Al Capone would have carried back in the 30's. I think Tisas is onto something.

Yeah, the yellowish coloration is from the copper plating that they have to do for nickel plating. I interned with a company that did nothing but plating guns in nickel and chrome. I love nickel but it's fragile. That's why nobody does it anymore. The matte finish was something we refused to do because if you put it in a holster, it will get shiny spots. We wrapped the nickel guns in velour bags because Styrofoam left shiny spots on matte when we used to do them before and shiny nickel it left yellow spots.

I love that subtle look and finish and it comes in two calibers. It's a win win for that Tisas 1911.

Amazing value! The nickel plating alone is worth it. The titanium firing pin and commander hammer are nice touches. Glad you called out the machine marks. Its not a safe queen. It's a fun and practical shooter. Both tight groups too. There's shills and paid reviewers hyping Staccato (formerly STI) 1911/2011's that cost $3K+, and mags are $75 each. And I've seen them shoot loose groups lol! For that money they should be laser beams. They only cover what they're paid, sponsored, or incentivised to. Product showcases. Nothing wrong with running a business as long as they're honest about it. Why I appreciate your honest reviews. Value Equation: for $3K you could buy 6 of these or trick out 2-3 other nice pistols. Good hands on review 👍

Great review which included valuable 1911 info ( i.e., the "wiggle" on the safety, the Ed Brown magazine)... Since I reload I only needed to acquire some 38 Super +P brass from Starline: already had dies, .356" bullets and appropriate powders. My 38 Super cost per round (after the 1st reloads of the new brass) approaches the cost of regular 9mm range ammo! CHEERS! P.S. I would always prefer a well-applied matt nickel finish vs. a coating ANY day! P.P.S. After my 1st trip to the range I was blown away: my pistol has no nicks or scrapes, the nickel finish is pristine, the lockup, accuracy and function with ball, FMJs & various hollowpoints was flawless. I am 100% satisfied. And the safety exhibited no wiggle and positively clicked on and off.

I believe you can drop in a .45 or a 10MM. I know for certain the .45 barrel will fit with the same bushing, they made the barrels OD all the same GI spec dimension for the .45 .38 SA and 9MM. Not 100% certain on the 10 MM, though I suspect it could be a drop in. I can buy a .45 bbl for $50 new, a 10MM a bit more, and std mags all fit, .38 SA, 9MM and .45. What’s not to like!?!

The reason why the grip safety rattles is that the finger on the sear spring that engages the grip safety is bent way in. If the spring is bent outwards (while still retaining the pistol's safety feature), the rattle will most likely disappear.

Tisas is doing what Rock Island should have done. My gunsmithing school gave me a Rock Island and I asked immediately if I could build a Tisas instead. Their machining and QC is so much better. They make the best 1911s under $1000. Ill order one just to have one. They use all forged parts which makes them a great source for parts.

Even the Philippines military and police buy guns from Tisas. One would assume that RIA would have sufficed but they'd be wrong. The Turkish defense industry has been on a roll the past two decades, so there's always innovation. The innovation in the guns took off at the start of the 2010s in response to Germany de-facto embargoing rifles and even pistols sales because of anti-Turkey lobbying. So TR started taking the sector seriously, fueled by domestic and foreign contracts, and ended up taking marketshare from Germany.

I have one on order from Classic Firearms, it is still in transit. I have 3 other Tisas 9mm, 1911s a full size single stack Nightstalker, a Nightstalker DS and a light weight bobtailed Commander sized carry gun. I also have 21 other 1911s from various manufacturers including Colt and my feeling is that on a dollar for dollar basis the Tisas guns are probably the best value. I also in that pile of fine weaponry have some RIA guns in particular a DS 5” convertible gun in 22TCM/9mm and a 5” single stack 38 Super. I was cleaning the 38Super one time and a giant light bulb appeared above my head. Hey I said this 38 Super barrel looks just like the 9mm barrel on my other gun. So I got out the convertible gun and found that all 3 barrels will mix and match between the two frames and work just fine. So when I saw this Tisas convertible, I couldn’t resist. Now I wonder if the RIA barrels will fit properly in this new Tisas, just curious. Keep up the great work on your videos. As far as PIMP GUNS go I have a bright chrome Chinese Tokerev in 9mm with imitation pearl grips. If a pistol doesn’t cause as much shame as that one then it isn’t worthy of the name PIMP GUN, even my bright nickel RIA 1911A1 in 45 acp doesn’t come close to that gaudy Tok.

This was a great review with valuable information (a wiggle on the safety, the Ed Brown magazine!)! CHEERS! P.S. Personally I don't let minor machining imperfections that don't really "show" (i.e., inside the slide?), or more importantly, don't affect the function or safety of a firearm bother me in the least. On a Colt or from a true "cu$tom" manufacturer, of course! On a dual caliber 1911 under $600, hardly.

Just got one in today and not a blemish on it. No machining marks. Does have the downward movement of safety but safety works perfectly. Very sturdy protective case as well. Probably will make me a great truck gun. I load for my competition Caspian 38 Super so don't have to hunt for scarce, rediculously priced ammo. As shootable as 9mm but much more power with negligably more recoil and great stopping power.

Big thumbs up! Excellent demonstration/review video on a VERY cool handgun. I bought the Tisas Stakeout today...along with a 50rd box of 38s ammo and tax I got out of the store for about $520. It's like getting two very solid quality handguns for less than half the price of a "mid'level" gun like a Kimber or Colt... I love the sights on the gun - that front post shows up nice big and bright. The finish is excellent and the gun is tight - there are no rattles or wiggles in it when you shake it - empty or with a mag in the well there just is no play in the gun. Took it home immediately disassembled the gun cleaned it up and lubed the heck out of it...can't wait to get out on the range with it. At the price point for this gun it has to be the best value for the dollar firearm on the market. Great video sir and very good shooting.

Nickel is a very delicate finish period. Unless you leave it in the box and never touch it you'll have marks. Nickel Windicators always have a mark on the top strap where they dunk them. When you buy a Tisas 1911 style anything take that cleaning brush out first thing as it just rubs the finish off the slide all day long. I personally love Tisas for what they are, a lower priced alternative that can be carried and used if nessecery. Who's ever ready to lose your stainless Para 14 if you need to use it because you're not getting it back.

I know that when the pistol is brand new you don’t want to see blemishes on the finish. But I’m not so much bothered by that because I carry my 1911 everyday and I work dirty outdoor jobs. So the finishes on my pistols get beat up, knocked around and worn out from the elements, metal shavings and dirt. I take care of my 1911s mechanically, but the finish gets really beat up.

I know I've taken many out of the box and shot them and tend to have some that always seem to hit high, low, let or fight. Now, I may not have the studies hands, but your hits are centered. Difficult to extract as a result, and you can see engraving marks from the rifling on the bullet. Also, the ejector is way too long, and will not eject a live round at 1.260" cartridge OAL (Aguila 130 FMJ).
