I just added a rose gold Seastar 1000 to my watch collection. It's one of the least expensive watches I own BUT it has really surprised me. The build quality of this watch is right up there with much more expensive watches, the time keeping of the watch is perfect, I mean it just doesn't lose any time. I threw it on my time grapher and the beat error was 0.0ms, the rate was 0s/d, amplitude 314 and it was beating at 28,800. That makes it the most accurate mechanical watch I own. Now the big shocker - I went down to my local country pub where the clientele are regularly sporting a whole host of "flashy" watches. You regularly see Rolex, Omegas and Hublots etc. No one has ever noticed or commented on any of my higher end watches until I rocked in with the Tissot! 😂 My first time here by the way, very informative and entertaining review, I think I'll stick around for a while. 👍

I've had this "shiny watch" since 2018 and I can tell you, it looks as good as the day I bought it, daily wearer, solid AF, can take a beating - I get lots of complements, 300m is no messing around, more than most japanese divers (which i love) for the same price, it puts it in rolex omega territory for shiny diver. I appreciate your honest review but I wholeheartedly disagree. Those beasty hands, blue lume, ceramic, the dial, the no nonsense tough movement with 80hrs Absolutely impossible to beat. This watch made me a tissot fan and now I have the le locle that I bought for my wedding day and the visodate which both are absolutely gorgeous.

I might check that out as third time lucky! I had two Tissots, including this and a PRX both gone now for different reasons. This is one is 46mm but for my 8" wrist it's fine and as I dive, bigger is better, plus over a wetsuit you won't be worrying about size, once it's a reliable backup. I generally agree with your view on Tissot. That being said the quartz visodate (silver with black dial) is easily the favourite watch of my collection. Yes, no lume, no AR coating and yes it's 'only' a quartz but I don't own a watch that makes me smile more, and for all Tissot's mass market cash grabs and uninteresting watches, I will defend the visodate to the death.

I’ve owned and ultimately sold several Tissot watches. I did settle on a white/silver dialed Visodate on a milanese bracelet that looks and wears like a dream. Yeah, the bracelet is kinda cheap. I paid 350€ for a 2nd hand piece in mint condition. I will say tho that the recent Tissots don't appeal to me at all, especially the current Seastar. Another great, honest, and fun review from MWC. I do agree on the design aspect for Tissot watches that they look off or a bit cheap versus their Swatch counterparts like Hamilton, and Certina. I recently checked out a PRX to see what the hype is about, but got disappointed by it. It looks too big and bulky for my 7 inch wrist. Also, the bracelet looks and feels like it belongs to a more affordable watch IMO.

I'm surprised on how robust and tough this watch is, pure solid quality. I also have 2pcs of Oris as weekend watches and both of them are down and malfunctioning, one with "5" hour marker fell off and the other with the "second" hand fell off. My dress watch Rolex datejust 36 16200 is also out of commissioning since one of the lumina dots fell off and went in the date window and into the movement. It's a casual motor sport chrono. The build quality is great! The looks are great! It's remarkably comfortable (though with the butterfly clasp I think I just got lucky there). And with the PRS 516 Tissot have done something I haven't seen on other watches, but really like! They have a circular brushed ceramic bezel and it really works. Gives the bezel a more dull, aluminum like look with the strength and durability of ceramic and it looks fantastic. The Tissot was great when it was my only dress or sensible watch (as soon as I got rid of the gold stretchy bracelet that seemed to be on every watch from the 70's for a black leather strap. I have to agree with you MWC, I don’t think this watch is for me either. With all due respect to Tissot, it feels like they’ve got a very generic dress diver type design but they’ve also got several contrasting elements going on at once and their proportions are off slightly so everything looks just a bit “wrong” to my eyes anyway. Seems as though they are very well put together with a rock solid movement and the brand has lots of history and represents a great entry point into the world of Swiss Made watches so I think there is a lot to like with Tissot and the potential is more that there for the brand if the design speaks to someone more than it does me. As you said, watch collectors all like different things and that’s part of what makes this hobby so interesting 👍

I have a Tissot PR-100 with the Powermatic 80 and I was really surprised at how accurate it is. I was expecting it to not perform as well in that department considering it runs at a slower BPM. But then again, I just wear watches, I'm not all that knowledgeable on the technical aspects of watch design.
@gpaje2 жыл бұрын
Powermatic 80 are very accurate, the lower BPM is to save energy, but the only real negative is the less smooth second moment. In terms of keeping time, it's regulation is set (cannot be adjusted at home), but luckily it's accurate.

i have one too, the blue burst dial on rubber strap is the only one that appealed to me. As for the ceramic bezel, looks very classy and understated, so another positive in my view. As for the print on the dial, the first gen was a per the marketing photo.. less busy, n just right

I bought one online when it was released and didn't keep it. I do dive, but as you said too shiny. My own fault, I was imagining it was more brushy from the photos! The bezel on mine wasn't as loose though as it seems to be on yours, it was tight enough. As for lume, my score was 3, another reason I sold it. It's actually the second Tissot I sold as I also got rid of my quartz PRX, the seconds hand hit two markers, the 12 and the 6 and missed every other one. OCD overload! For a good diver, if you dive rather than desk dive, any one of the Seiko Prospex range. However for desk diving I think the Seastar is OK if you like shiny things. If you want a Swiss watch possibly one of the newer Chrisother Ward's that don't have writing and logos all over the place.
@Trex1002 жыл бұрын
I don't own a Tissot, but I wouldn't hesitate buying one if I liked the look. This Seastar watch doesn't offend me, but I can understand MWC's criticisms. I think the design was a bit too enthusiastic in some ways. The date wheel "intrusion" made me giggle a bit. On the other hand, I have had so many tight bezels in my day, I can get on ok with a loose one ( no double entendre to see her).

Impossible to find this upgrade in the UK unless direct from Tissot. Still, some retailers are knocking out the older version for upto 20% off (won't have the engraved bezel but also won't have the extra writing on the face).

Do you think a G-Shock MT-G is better quality than this or no ?
@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR2 жыл бұрын
Difficult to justify the prices of those when I can get the same module G for £50 my friend. There is quality with Tissot and I’d rather pay for £500 for a Tissot then 4k for a suuup’d up G shock square

I once thought I was a fan of Tissot. I thought that because I got beguiled by the powermatic Gentleman and purchased one. I really liked that watch, so I just assumed I liked Tissot. But then I broke that watch, and set out to replace it. I decided to fill it's place in the collection with a different Tissot. I searched their entire catalogue and could not find a single OTHER watch of their that I liked. It turned out that I wasn't really a Tissot fan, I was just a fan of that one watch. So, I went in an entirely different direction and filled that winder spot with a Hamilton Navy. This being my third Hammy, apparently, I am a Hammi fan in the end. Who knew?

HAMMYAHOLIC!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing my friend and thank you for watching the show!
@kennedymcgovern54132 жыл бұрын
@@alfieakaronaldog Right. I had two watches that scratched the same itch. I had the Gentleman that I broke, and a Hammy Jazzmaster, both slotted in the "dressy casual" space in the collection. So, when the Gentleman broke...I did not necessarily have to but something for that space. But what I did need was something blue. I also did not need another real diver. My top watch in the collection is a real rollie submariner. I also have a Kamasu and a steeldive 1953, for when I want to wear a diver without having to be in fear of damaging the rollie. So, I really could have found something blue as a backup watch for any category. This is what made the desk diver work for me. And Hamilton, well...Hamilton always seems to work for me.

Hmm....I was looking at these when I wanted a diver, but didn't like the dial (does look a bit cheap or tacky, or something). Something about it. Ended up with a Citizen Aqualand that is a big, tough as nails serious dive watch and love it. Liked it more than all of the Seiko divers that KZbin told me I had to buy, as well as all of the cheap Casio's (also spruiked by KZbin watch reviewers). I do however love my PRX Powermatic 80 with the blue waffle dial. Just looks great and this would have to be one of the few channels and comments sections that dislikes them so much. My old PRS200 has never let me down either and still looks good. I subscribed to your channel anyway, though I do have a soft spot for Tissot. :)

I don't see how it's a desk diver. I think a desk diver is referred to when a watch looks like a diver but is not functional. For example a diver that doesn't have a lumed bezel (pip) or the Seiko 5 divers that only have 100m water resistance

Yeah there are better diver’s for $1000 more. But they’re $1000 more lol. $600 for a dive certified swiss automatic sapphire crystal 80 hour power reserve blah blah I think is pretty good!
