For those who think the Titan is too expensive, these 3rd party companies installing solar panels on your roof and connecting you to the grid are charging $25k to $40k. Plus, if the grid goes down, and you're connected to the grid, you will lose power just like your neighbors. My Titan system with 2 batteries, 1500w of panels, racking and wiring cost $5,600. So the Titan is actually the cheapest system out their if you want to power your home or vital appliances so you can stay warm and your food doesn't spoil. If you see the world's problems as possibly taking us down a long dark road, which definitely looks possible to me, it would be wise to do anything, get a second job, to pay for a Titan system. Also, you can lower the cost of your Titan system by buying other panels than the ones they sell. I bought 250w SanTan panels that were only $50 each, plus shipping. You can buy 4000 watts of panels for $800 and sell half of them to your neighbors and make some money. Be financially creative and you can do it.
@evecarrington5622 жыл бұрын
Also, if you have solar panels on your roof and are tied to the grid, many power companies in lots of states are now CHARGING people with solar to be tied to the grid! The power companies make money off of any excess power your panels produce, then some will also charge those with solar for being on the grid. Do your homework and make sure you have a solar set up is off grid and allows you to store your excess power in batteries.

@@minutemanprep quick seemingly long question…let’s say I need 2kw of solar input and wants to over-panel, is it ok to connect differently rated panels (100w, 200w, 250w etc) to get my 2kw as long as I follow the 30-145v 30amp rule or does all my panels have to be at the same rated wattage?
@minutemanprep2 жыл бұрын
@@ttawevino9964 You can use all sorts of different wattage panels as long as they are not each connected together in series. For example you can have a set of five 100w panels together, then another set of 3 200w panels together and another set of two 300w panels together. But you don't want to connect a 100w panel to a 300w panel because when panels are connected in series they are only as strong as their lowest outputting panel. So if you have a 300w and 100w panel connected together directly, the 300w panel will match whatever wattage the 100w panel is making since it has lower output than the 300w panel.

I've been using my Titan with 1,000watts of solar for over a year now. I use it to power my Home security cameras, computer, two freezers, my networking equipment, and I mine crypto with the excess power. I have 222AH of Titan battery storage PLUS I have 476AH of LifePO4 storage plugged into it as well!!!!!! This thing is a BEAST and the only complaint I have is that the fans don't have any ramp up speed, they go from basically off sounding to 100% Jet sounding. So even with just around 500watts drawing from it the fans will kick on and off 100% every 15min or so. They are loud enough that I need to close the door to the room the Titan is is when I sleep in the adjoining room. 2nd wish I have is that it had a Bluetooth connection to get data like total solar power generated, total cycles, etc etc etc. Besides that, this thig is rock solid.

For the LifePO4 expansion, can you share what you went with? Is that external expansion working well for you? I have a Titan 1000 (14 months) and also plan to go with an external expansion battery.
@edolson16982 жыл бұрын
I would like to know more about the battery expansion too , how do you handle the requirement of the Titan to have the external battery within .5 volts of the Titan battery. When I tried to use a LiFePo4 battery I charge it to 28.8 just short of the Titans 29.2 volts but within the .5 volt required , but when the battery starts resting the voltage starts dropping and doesn't quit until 26.8 These are brand new EG4 batteries and I also tried using Lion energy lifepo4 with the same results. I have never hooked them up because they dropped out of the safe .5 volt range for fear of damaging the batteries or the Titan. How do your batteries fair ? What brand? do they drop out of the .5 range or do you just drop the Titan battery down to the LiFePo4 voltage? I don't understand how to make this work. Please explain.
@mike77652 жыл бұрын
@@edolson1698 I believe based in my research that LiFePO4 batteries require 29.2 volts (for a 24v system) to fully charge. So you are under charging LiFe batteries using 28.8 volts and so they lose their charge too fast. New Li ion betteries have a higher voltage then 29.2v for a 24 volt system technically so I "suspect" that the makers of the Titan purposely charge their batteries to 29.2 instead of 29.4 for the li ion cells to not 100% charge them. This extends the life cycle of the batteries. So essentially 29.2volts is the sweet spot for both Li ion and LiFePO4.
@minutemanprep2 жыл бұрын
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing.
@edolson16982 жыл бұрын
@@mike7765 The manufacturer of the Lion energy batteries said I could charge them 14.6 which I did and after resting overnight the voltage dropped to 13.6 , the manual said to charge to 13.8. The manual for the EG4 batteries says to charge to 28.5 and float to 28.25 but when the sun goes down overnight voltage drops to 26.8 I don't want to charge the EG4's to 29.2 and I don't think the voltage would stay within the .5 volts anyway.

Started testing my Titan last October, 2021. Been running non-stop since November. 3 times the battery level got down low enough that I either unplugged items from the Titan or I used the AC charger connected to a backup gas generator or the grid to charge it back up. This was due to multiple days of heavy clouds. The rest of the time, no problem. even on other cloudy/snowy days the Titan usually fully charges, it just depends on how heavy the cloud cover is. I only have a max of 1300 watts input on the best days (1500 watts of panels), so I still have room to expand. I've been running with 2 batteries, and I've ordered a 3rd which should arrive any day now. The Titan is an engineering marvel. No others can beat it at this time (March 2022).

Considerations would be 90 degree connectors for the side plugs, or a side door or pocket for cable access (that is if it's in an enclosed rack), another consideration would be ventilation (again, only in an enclosed rack). I wonder if that was part of their design criteria?

I am looking for a portable solar generator that will work for a power outage only - I would like to be able to plug in my home's full-sized refrigerator, plus a cell phone and maybe a space heater. Is this model overkill? I only would use it in emergencies (we lose power here maybe once a year for 3 days if a bad storm rolls in...) Thank you for your response. I've looked at your Jackery videos and didn't know which one would better suit my purposes.
@minutemanprep Жыл бұрын
Hey Kara, I'm happy to help. An electric space heater would require a surprisingly MASSIVE system with probably 4,000w of solar and around 20,000wh of battery at least. That would cost tens of thousdands of dollars to do that. Instead, you'll want to get something like a upright kerosene heater and have a few days worth of kerosene on hand. That or a Mr Buddy heater and around 5 or 6 BBQ propane tanks around as well as the adapter hose to go from the BBQ propane tank to the mr buddy heater. Those will cost you only a few hundred dollars at most to have all of that heat as a back up for 3 days or so. The fridge and cell phone are definitely easier. For that, you'll want a minimum of 2,000wh of battery and around 800w of solar panels would be good. The perfect setup in my opinion would be the Delta Max 800 (200w) kit: poweredportablesolar.com/product/delta-max-kits/ It's affordable, has just over 2,000wh of battery, has 800w of solar panels, and if necessary it can have up to two more expansion batteries added to it should your power needs change. Please let me know if you have more questions.

I have a question of the Titan, can it be charged by an alternate source like the Waterlilly?
@minutemanprep2 жыл бұрын
Not the waterlily because the waterlily doesn't make enough voltage to charge a titan, and it doesn't make enough power overall to effectively charge any solar generator. It would take days to charge a small solar generator with a waterlily. The max power it can do is 15 watts, which is extremely low.

You’re not gonna have a choice when energy prices go up do to the inflation. Invest in off grid solar now
@jimwest50272 жыл бұрын
The best cheap alternative is a propane generator, then you only have to worry about the noise. But as solar goes, these 3rd party companies installing solar panels on your roof and connecting you to the grid are $25k to $40k. Plus, if the grid goes down, and you're connected to the grid, you will lose power too. So the Titan is actually the cheapest system out their if you want to power your home or vital appliances so your food doesn't spoil. If you see the world's problems as possibly taking us down a long dark road, which definitely looks possible to me, it would be wise to get a second job to pay for a Titan system.

@@minutemanprep thank you . . . I'm mean absolutely no disrespect, I've watched your videos quite a few times and you have gained my trust on you're opinion on the Titan. But I swear in this one you say you are putting 3900 watts to your unit. Or am I misinterpreting and you are putting 3900 watts into TWO Titan generators ?? I just received mine last week, you're videos are what sold me on the Titan. I will be setting it up on my off grid 38' Montana trailer out at my brother's property. I already have 1000 watts of panels and am thinking on adding another 1000 watts. Does this seem workable ?? Again thanks for the reply, and All of your videos on the Titan geni. 👍👍👍 Oh also, I will be taking it out to the property next weekend. My brother has his Full Solar powered home out there. So, I ran my Titann down to 65% and put the a/c charger to with a 100' extension cord trying to simulate running a cord to my brother's 110 outlet about 75' away. I will have to charge it this way until we get the panels set up. It seemed to take quite a bit more time to charge the Titan, my guess is the voltage drop of the 100' cord. Will charging the unit this way for a few outings hurt the charger or the Titan at all ? Also, could I use one of the many gas (petrol) powered geni's on site with the a/c charger to charge the Titan ? Again, thank you Very Much
@minutemanprep2 жыл бұрын
@@jimfarmer7193 Yes I have 3,900w of panels connected to a single Titan. I can do this because the Titan can over-panel. The Titan will only allow 1000w of actual power into each solar input port, so a max of 2,000w input at anytime from solar. But if I have 2,000w of solar connected, and with only 5 solar peak hours in a day form about 11a to 4p depending on the time of year, that means before 11a my panels aren't putting in 2,000w of solar. But if I double how much solar is connected (ie 4,000w) then usually around 9a I'm already getting 2,000w of power into the system and then later in the evening I'm getting 2,000w going in even later in the afternoon because it's over paneled. This is one of that major reasons I love the Titan. So rather than being able to make upwards of 10,000wh in a day, I can make nearly double by properly over paneling. This video helps explain it a bit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWbbpZysZbmdetE&t

BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!! I am in possession of a Titan + 2 batteries from this company. I set it up as Ben did in one of his videos and then tried it out with a 75W light bulb. Result was that it stayed on for 40 hours. Seemed to me this greatly under performed the hype, so I called customer support. Was told that it should show 29.1 in the output window. Got that. Then performed the test again with same results. So, I can't make it work even with customer support help. So buyer beware - does not match the hype!!

I understand why you're upset. I cannot figure out why your run time was lower than it should be either. But I did a capacity test on my system after 3 years of non-stop use and got 94% efficiency out it. I truly do not know why your system isn't having better efficiency and I am sorry PZ hasn't been of any help. We've tried on our end to help but we've never experience this issue so I don't know what to tell you. For that, I apologize.
@jjakejones Жыл бұрын
Ben, we ran numbers and I think that the batteries are running close to spec. Batteries (2x2000 = 4000W / 75w = about 40 hours usage). So this appears to be correct. We ran lights constantly with no solar input. I will write you more details in an email in a few days. The other issue is that we get so little sun with the smoke from Canada that we need to reassess our needs. More detail later.

All I know is about a Titan is whatever I heard about it and before I heard about it Titan I ordered two blue Eddie's 300 with all its batteries and 24 solar panels and they're able to run 120 and 240s put together and my kitchen stove is it 240 volt just like my refrigerator is electric just like my freezers electric just like washer and dryers electric just like my water heaters electric but I'm not sure what his watches and water heater is I know that's a 220 volt the rest of my electricity can run off of my 3000 Watts for most of my house but my other converters that are 12 volt but I know when I get my split heaters air conditioners some of those are 120 volt and some of those are 230 and 240 volt And I would like to get off tighten but I want to get one that's more than 3,000 Watts I want to get one that's more like 8,000 Watts and I don't know if those are made yet same with the deltas there would have to be big in what they probably are but I understand they would run everything in my house I've had two of those if I get the biggest ones they got but cost for me everything is too high so I got to be very careful because I don't get a lot of money and I'm always going broke. At least I got a good job which is considered middle class but with a cost and everything it's like probably lowest class special taxes that come out. But I do like that I paid my 30 year mortgage off in 19 years of course I have paid off three different times before they accepted it how cricket is some banks. But as soon as I get all the solar panels I need which should be coming in the mail pretty soon or being shipped to me pretty soon I'll be arriving pretty soon I know some of them I've been mailed on already probably not all of them of course some of it could be scams seems like one is which starts with hot I don't know by heart but it's an app store for solar panels but he stole money from me when I try to order something else through PayPal of $94.03 after I paid $94 for it in June for sale that he had I don't care that he took the $94.03 as long as she males it out to me even though it took almost every last penny I had. That was 2 weeks ago and if it's a real company he'll mail me the solar panels I ordered of course it did say free shipping these are one really good sales I've been buying these solar panels from otherwise I really couldn't afford to buy solar panels not with the gas prices food prices and all the other prices that are going off the wall and it's only going to get worse like our president trying to make more and more bills spending money like there's no tomorrow and trying to do it before the election of this year when the Republicans would actually stop them which is going to take over to Congress and send it this year but it won't actually happen until next year. But I hope you all are doing better than I am it's just me and my daughter lives in my house and her health situation I really do need these solar panels so I can really run some really important things for her health I don't care about my own house so much but I do care about my daughters.
