Yeah I was thinking about getting one, I own a taping company and we always prime our own jobs and sometimes homeowners have us get a coat of finish on and we're not fast at cutting in , so glad you did this review I won't even bother with it

I used it a few years ago it worked really well under crown molding that I installed, but when I got to the corners you definitely have to tape the corners, I'll sure repainting. If you use this machine tool once a week it's great but if you throw it in your toolbox and forget about it for 6 months and try to use it again it won't work you just like forget how to use it you have to test it and make sure you're doing it right and make sure you got the right tip in it it needs a 314 tip or something

I painted a house exterior, the colors were white for trim and Greek villa for body, essentially white on white. Used that roller thing to cut in around some hard to reach areas above the garage roof, made it a super fast job. It has its place but it’s super limited to like colors and if I was going to use it on an interior....your still gonna need to pull out the brush or use a hand masker for the corners and it’s gonna drip like crazy with the buildup

I have had great success with this tool in a office/commercial setting spraying to a metal grid, drop in(act) ceiling. I did find that it is much easier to actually mask the perimeter grid with 2 inch tape(very easy, very quick), using paper mask on inside corners and outside corners, prior to spraying. Once you invest the time in masking you can actually fly through the spraying process. I actually use this tool all the time for that application. However that's really the only application that I have found where this tool is beneficial Thanks for a great review.

This was the type of review I needed, I bought one anyways, cause I hadn't seen this vid before I came across the product. But I originally bought it thinkin I could possibly set the guide up backwards for spraying gutters, realized where that didn't work. But was only further skeptical about overspray.

You did a pretty good job explaining how this stupid tool works. I’ve known about this scam for years and wondered how anybody could be so stupid as to actually buy this darn thing, let alone waste their valuable time using it. The concept was half there, but they didn’t complete the concept. I do multimillion dollar houses in Newport Beach, CA and would never, ever use that thing. It’s possible they could have modified the tool and added foam to the disk to absorb some of the paint, but even then, you’ll still have problems. I’m glad you informed us of the details, but I would sum it up by saying it’s an idiot tool for suckers.

hey Chris, i agree with J.Lopresi, Ive found that you really need to have a guy standing by with a 5 gal. bucket or 2 of water and towel, dunk it once,towel it, dunk it again and it can actully save some time, HOWEVER things are different for a real painter than they are for homeowners/handymen, if you have ceiling paint, it is super fast to just have someone hold shields in place (big ass diy pcs. of siding)spray walls and touch up ceilings, In my time as a painter 20+ years, Im almost ready to just tape everything off with frogtape, PRE wet it with damp rag and roll right to it with 9" roller , no cutting at all but this only makes sense if you are someone that can mask 3 times faster than normal people can, i.e. painters.

I can see the headaches with this device. Even if you get it perfectly dialed in. You have to wipe it or reverse a clogged tip it would move/mis adjust the dialed in angle because the swivel doesnt locked in. It just seems if the company really cared about the device they wouldve made it non-adjustable. The tip size and angle should be preset by design.

If I have a lot of crown molding to paint, I will spray the ceilings first, and then use this to put on the semi-gloss for the trim (only if the trim and ceilings are both white). The slight overspray from the semi-gloss isn't noticeable on the ceiling, and if the crown is complex or has a lot of ridges, then I can just do a quick brush over it, not having to worry about the cut in next to the ceiling

That is an exceedingly nice home. I couldn't figure out if it was a "Green Screen" background or real for a while. When you brought out the 5 gallons of BLACK paint inside that lovely beige and white interior, with none of the furniture and carpets covered in plastic, and just a few very small drop-cloths, I was sure you were making a comedy video and were going to just start painting everything. (I guess the difference between a "Vandal" and a "Professional Painter" is 1) Skill, and 2) Confidence) Those people are going to want their nice beige walls with the crisp white trim back, within a week I bet, rather than that black hallway. Marge and Harry need to cancel their subscriptions to the fancy Interior Design magazines, and most advisedly: QUIT drinking! You must have some expensive insurance coverage to be that confident about bringing in a new, untested machine full of high pressures and paint into a nice, occupied home. I salute you, and thank you. (I took that wheelie gadget out of my Amazon "Saved for Later" list) I learn more and more with every video you make.

You gotta keep adjusting it, shouldn’t have that much paint on it. I bought a cheap one, works great. Takes time but once you dial it in you can work fast and clean. You adjust it so it’s just barely missing the wheel, the wheel should be catching overspray and not being hit directly.

It’s not bad. I would still use it when painting instead of having to completely mask everything. It leaves a bit overspray, but when you paint a window frame you’re painting walls first anyway and overspray on the trim. I would probably turn down the pressure some. And move a bit off being against the trim some. Yea won’t be perfect but it’s helping some instead of just over spraying

I can definitely see some situations this could be handy mostly is some commercial or production situations or just a a rough group overspray blocker were perfection is not exactly the goal but a fresh look it... Definitely not up to standard for a Finnish edge though but it think it could be a time saver in some situation or the unfortunate situation. I could definitely see this when you just have white one white with Sean change. Rentals apartments things of that nature. I also think this could work great along with tape anytime your already doing to be using a pressure roller with tape possibly no paper. Since a sprayer will already be set up and there is a large amount of cut it with a solo painter this could be a game changer for efficiency

Looks pretty fiddly and janky. Unlikely to have any consistent utility to justify the price point. Thanks for demoing it though! Now we know. Interesting concept, but clearly it doesn't readily translate into real-world scenarios. I'm thinking of all the old paint-veteran's watching this, contemptuous sneers stamped on their faces, seeing the truth of it right away; but it's still entertaining to see some of these dubious contraptions put to the test!

Chris you are not using it correctly, also for all of you that did not have luck with it, it does not make laser lines but it works much better than on the video, you have to keep the tool and extension 100% vertical all the time and walk with it as you move, there should not be any hand movement towards left or right as it makes overspray right away. Also your hand is close to the wall, move it towards your self a bit. You should start from right corner toward left and spray about 2' than you go to left side and spray towards the area where you started so you dont spray all the way towards the end. I also found it works better with FFLP 410 or 412 tips. If you take time and adjust angle perfectly and move it while keeping it vertical all the time it works much better. Also after a while that center of the wheel gets dirty and blocks the wheel from spinning, I installed small bear bottle cup on top of it so that paint cant get on it... Give it second try, it works on rentals and exterior

I was using it to specs on the PACKAGE. I used it several times. I have over 20K hours spraying with an airless sprayer and some tools are good and some a waist. Now. It you have lots of time on your hand, maybe you can get better with this tool. For me the learning curve is to great to invest in it. Hey, not every tool is for everyone.

Thanks for the info sep, i'm looking to use one as i only do new builds which mostly are standard builders white ceiling and a light color to the walls and think this would be ideal for the first cut to ceiling lines, like Chris mentioned he likes to cut up a couple of mm onto cornice to give that straight cut impression when viewed square on, this item would never eliminate the final cut in by brush, but looks like it has it's uses,very happy to leave it short in the corners and catch with a brush afterwards, the time jumping up and down steps, platforms etc to cut ceiling lines on larger homes is a long drawn out job at times

I saw that about 5 years ago and immediately thought WHAT THE HELL! What the hell were they thinking? That's one of the most ignorant tools I've seen on the market. I’ve lost all respect for Titan for letting that idiotic tool into their line. The overspray is so freaking obvious from the get-go. When I use shields, carboard or metal it’s pretty good, but I always have to clean them, or I’ll get about 10 cardboard shields and use a new one when my current shield gets wet. But how in the hell could these morons not know the paint would cake up in seconds? With a shield you got about 36” to catch the overspray, but little wheel barely gives you a few inches. What the hell??? 🤔🤨

Way too many problems using on a high ceiling. First of all, the degree of difficulty and control increases your physical effort with every extension needed to reach your target height. Secondly, when using extensions, the amount of paint spat out on trigger-off ruins any hope of a decent finish and leads to time-consuming rectification works. Thirdly, you need to move at a reasonable pace, which is not always possible when your paint intersection is rough/uneven or the ground is uneven. Fourthly, you need at least a 40 degree tip to allow the paint to hit the disc. That's a lot of wasted paint without any quality guarantee. It's hit or miss.

Back in the late 70's we'd spray exteriors with 24-36" metal or cardboard shields mostly for the eves after the stucco was done, and they were pretty effective. Working fast I'd bring about 10 cardboard shields as they get sopping wet very fast, so I'd lay it down and get a new dry one. This wheel would get sopping wet so fast it wouldn't be worth the time. If they designed this wheel with a super absorbent foam padding then MAYBE, otherwise it's a joke.

Would sacrifice time as always cleaning the wheel. Easy if spray woodwork allow to dry, mask woodwork, spray walls, allow to dry, grab a board (real estate boards work well) put in into the internal corner of the ceiling and wall and spray the ceiling moving the board along to catch the over spray. 🤙

You only need to catch the guide with the fan of spray if you had to wipe it that quickly you are catching it too much

Hi Chris, i recon it should be used with a 210 or 208 tip, it might reduce the overspray on the ceiling. Could you try with a smaller tip?
@Idahopainter
@Idahopainter 3 жыл бұрын
I could but Titan says on their on package a tip not in that size range. Is that not weird?

@@Idahopainter I guess they haven´t tested it enough and released a product that is below average quality. Hoewer it goes for the swivel, thats not all full rubish

I would rather use a paint shield instead but I don't think it's a good idea to use this tool I would rather brush the ceiling line it only takes 10 minutes to do a room if you know how to paint

I looked to see if you had a video on this item before I purchased it! 2 weeks ago it was a terrible tool! I’m gonna use it for target practice with my SIG! I think it will be a better target than tool! Piece of crap! Thanks for reassurance! I can spray well! But not with this item, what a waist of $$$

Could someone tell me which HEA tip would be the best to use with low pressure TITAN ControlMax Paint Sprayer and Spray Guide. This is a good review but I think it is very focused on professional use of this tool. I'd like to hear opinion from DIY users who from time to time paint couple of rooms in their house.

As an amateur you should go with a 211 for cutting in if you have to, 313 is safe to fill larger areas, just make sure your pressure is just right, mask everything off really good.
