I've allways avoided the big ones because I was warned of them on a snorkeling trip in Bali. But a smaller kind of triggerfish once bit the tip of my finger and it did drew blood. That fish was maybe 10 cm. Can imagine that a bigger Titan triggerfish could cause a serieus wound.

Yeah, got bitten by a large Titan in the Maldives earlier this month. It got me on the side of the foot while swimming. The first thing to do (after getting the hell away from it) is to wash the wound thoroughly. Fortunately, the island has a resident doctor who further cleaned the wound and gave me a course of oral antibiotics and topical antibiotic cream. Not to be messed with.

These guys are so damn aggressive. Got bitten on the arm in the Perhentian Islands in Malaysia; it left holes in my wetsuit and drew some blood … and that was only a small one.

I was attacked by one in Malaysia. I’d say the one then came for me was about as big as one can get. About thre feet long and relentless. I was snorkeling alone in abiut 8 ft of water and it felt like I kicked a human. I turned to see what it was and the fight was on. I managed to avoid being bitten by the massive monster but sliced my foot open on his fin kicking him away.

I had never heard of this fish and learned the hard way last week how aggressive they are. I was snorkeling (in Batangas, Philippines) and dived down a couple meters to get a closer look at a titan triggerfish. Bad move. Spent the next minute being aggressively pursued and charged at by the bugger. I didn't have fins but I instinctively kept my feet between me and him, kicking at it each time it charged. It seemed to be getting closer to me with each charge though and I was getting worried it would try to bite my feet. Even after withdrawing 10-15 meters away from it, it continued charging me. Finally I decided to just swim as fast as I could to the boat and not look back. Scary!

Ive been bitten by trigger fish alot of times when going on holidays to the pacific islands. It feels like a alittle nib then a bite. Their bites have never pierced through my skin. But when they come at me in the lagoon. I create a sand storm by stomping my feet and then i take off. That way they cant see me leave.

They always got me when snorkeling. Once a big one attacked me when i didnt had fins, that was scary as i was unable to descend. I swam away and the fish followed me repeatedly attacking as i tried to punch and kick him. Nothing happened luckily. Smaller species got me from time to time they only mean a bit blood like a mouse or rabbit bite. The big ones i dont know maybe they are able to bite off your finger.

its been 2years since I dive but I know that on one of those last 2 dives I came across this fish only I didn't know they were called titan triggerfish. If I would of known that would of been a different story. But when I swan by it to take a better look and he stop to look back at me and show me those teeth just like on this video, I knew right there that, that's the universal sign of back the fuck off. He didn't attacked me or chase me down but little did I know just how close I was to having a shitty dive.

You all make this fish sound evil, it is not. Usually they try to scare you away first, since we don't see them on the first try then they go in for a bite. They break down dead coral so they are an essential an fish in the coral eco-system. They do get large and if you are spearfishing they are easy prey because they do not swim away. I am not a fisherman so I just dive to appreciate the life here, so eating one is not on my list. When they come at me I simply swim away but I am always entertained when they do. I just hold my Go Pro stick out and that is the limit at which they come at me.

Just saw this Video from the Philippines. American Expat over here numerous years. This particular fish {Triggerfish} Is a super delicious tasting fish called "Pakol" commonly caught here by local fishermen In the tropical seas of the Visayas Region. Once caught and brought onto shore most of the locals residing in the nearby islands will grill the Triggerfish or "Pakol" as called in their Waray language. The outer skin and scales of the Triggerfish is very very thick and tough, but once removed exposing all the meat and cooked this fish is superbly delicious.
