Agreed. The vast majority of Ion players that I do come across do not utilize the laser shot. And I guess people seem to forget that everything Ion does wastes the energy reserve. The tripwire, the laser shot, the vortex shield and the splitter rifle draw from the same energy pool. How people don't see that as one of the biggest handicaps in the game I will never understand.

i'm really cross on how good or bad Ion is. On one hand, she has basically two rapid fire Northstar shots, but after that she has no defensive capabilities anymore. On the other hand, she has some of the best defensive capabilities, but if you use them for too long you lose your best offensive ability.

Frothy tested it(I'm in contact with him) the only change is that the 3 shot kill range is nerfed to close-range only, in both of our opinions, not nearly enough to actually nerf the gun, I want this gun dropped to near uselessness tier then buffed slowly to being usable again, drop it to 5 shots up close and 12 at range, kick the gun's ass and get people to stop using it for a while, then slowly buff it to a more reasonable damage profile so that it's good again but not stupid like it is now. Currently after that server update, it's 3 shots up close and 4 shot anywhere else.

Nerfing a gun to uselessness doesn't help anything. It ruins your data and people's perception of it. I'm surprised they haven't just given it the Spitfire's damage profile and worked from there, but baby steps I guess.

Not enough people realize that if your aim is good it is almost a guaranteed kill with laser shot against pilots. Too many players use Ion aggressively and Ion could be used so much more effectively than that.

Scorch main here: The softball indicator is an immense buff to his power, because it turns him into a pinpoint accurate mortar platform with all the zoning tools he had before. With wildfire launcher (not that it's viable though still) raining thermite at extreme range is now a viable support role.

Ion doesn't need a nerf. Now that the shield bug is gone she is perfectly fine like Legion. She's GOOD for sure, but not OP. What needs to happen is Northstar buffs so Laser shot is less of an issue. When you balance a game it's better to bring the underpowered components up instead of nerfing the fuck out of the good ones.

The problem with this game is most things are overpowered, it's not a problem of a few things being underpowered. In my view the general power level of gear in this game is far too high. Tacticals are too good, grenades are too good, lots of guns are too good. I think Northstar is one of the few parts of the game that is actually at an APPROPRIATE level of power right where she's at.

About the Northstar vs Ion match up: Ion only has laser shot. Vortex shield can't pick up a cluster rocket that's made contact anywhere and railgun shots can only reflect to do less than 500 damage. At long range 1v1, it's dependent on which pilot can land more critical hits, but the match is in Ion's favor if we assume she has all the time in the world to recharge energy and no other pilots are heckling either titan. 2v2 though, Ion stops being useful when there is a Northstar taking potshots.

Northstar's sniper railgun could use an increase of travel speed so as to actually inflict some manageable damage. Of all things, I expected it to be hitscan weapon, but the shots as a projectile are so easily dodged.

So the strength of projectile size depends on how large the target you are firing at is. Lets say X is your projectile radius, which is half your diameter. The effective hitbox of your target, which means where you should aim with the center of your crosshair, is expanded by your projectile radius. So what we are looking at is that the _surface area_ of your target that the center of your aim needs to intersect becomes larger in a quadratic way. Specifically (Base target radius + projectile radius)^2. This causes small targets to be much more easy to hit compared to their size than large targets compared to their size. A reduction to projectile size will impact the difficulty of hitting small targets a lot more than that of large targets.

All I want to say is that TF2 on console really is a different story. R97 doesn't need a nerf on console. Laser shot is definitely top tier, but landing crits with it on console is harder than PC. They shouldn't touch the damage of laser shot, they should make it require a brief charge up time instead, allowing players to see it coming. Haven't seen a devotion on console in 3 days. Hemlocks are still very common, but more because it's easy rather than it being good and I would honestly say that right now the hemlock is in a pretty good place as the training wheels AR. The only thing about this patch that needs adjustment in my opinion is further nerfing to Tone. She isn't as oppressive anymore, but is still an easy top tier titan that has no skill trade off. It's not that Tone is necessarily OP, it's that she is so easy to use for the same damage as other skill based titans.

Panoramics That's exactly what's it's there for, because if they won't move and you're all the way on the other side of map then they will lose so it literally forces them off their ass, but the drawback is you're literally putting a target on your back. It's also there if you're the last player against say 4-6 still alive because it's highly unlikely you'll be able to kill them all so grabbing the flag is your best bet depending on the timer because if you get it too soon they can flank you from every angle if they're coordinating and at that point you're pretty much screwed. Best thing you can do in that situation is try picking a few of them off then go for the flag or kill the carrier because at least that way you have a better chance of survival since there's less of them hunting you down.

To halve the damage wouldn't be a nerf; it would be murder. It'd probably be best to just give her another ability if you want to go that far. As for the shield, you'd be punishing the Ion for the Legion's pilot's failures and lack of skill. Don't shoot at the shield. If the Ion doesn't withdraw and keeps the shield up, she'll run out of energy and you can shoot her without having to worry about laser. If she doesn't keep the shield up, shield in case of laser and shoot her. If she withdraws, what's the problem? Just remember to hide from the laser.

Querulous The problem with "Don't shoot at the shield." Is that's literally the only thing legion can do offensively. If the only tactic available is to stand still or run away, that's a balance problem. A smart ion beats a smart legion every time. That's a problem. With zero point trip wire you can push a legion while only using your shield when legion shoots and mixing up splitter shots so you still have full energy for the shield. I guess they could give legion a buff so the shotgun blast goes through the shield, but I feel bad when I just destroy legions with ion. It doesn't feel fair.

I don't know about pushing against Legion being easy. I played Ion mostly before I started Tone, and the only way I could advance (without losing much of my health) was by peppering with lasers or rushing without shields against a low one, which doesn't really count. Moving up a lane against Legion is a clock counting down to when the shield runs out of power, after which you'll probably die unless you find cover. I don't know if I was terrible with Ion or the Legions were particularly good, but I usually place somewhere in the top three on my team, and around 70% in the top three of the game. Not being able to attack isn't horribly unbalanced as Ion isn't able to attack much either - plus again, the shield isn't infinite, after which Legion can have fun. Besides that, how do you attack a Scorch behind a wall firing over it? Or a Tone, duh, but Tone's a bit too strong. Ronin has an ability that completely negates anything you can do to him (so you can think of the shield as a longer and more dangerous phase shift limited to the front of the Ion, effectively) and acts as an extra dash, and then a secondary that gives a straight damage reduction as long as it's held. There is counter-play in all these situations. Some might be harder to pull off than others, but nonetheless it's not that much of a problem. If it gets really bad, play something instead of Legion, I suppose. You're not constrained to one per match. It's not a great argument for balance purposes, but if someone really can't do anything for the team with the Titan he's picking, it might be time for a switch.

I feel as though the Titan meta has soured being a legion player. Instead of tone spam which was manageable, I am seeing ion spam. This is significantly harder to deal with, and when you are in an lts game against a team of 5 of them, seems oppressive.

The things that make LMG's special in Titanfall is they benefit from the player laying on the trigger as long as possible. The Spitfire drops from having a very high recoil to having a moderate recoil. Still more than most other weapons but much less than it starts with. The Devotion's rate of fire goes from being the slowest automatic weapon in the game to the fastest. It also has a low recoil to start with which drops to no (noticeable) recoil at max speed. Because it absolutely makes sense to have the Devotion do what the Spitfire does but a whole lot better, with a higher damage per shot to boot... Honestly I think they just need to swap the recoil pattern for these guns, it feels like they already got them mixed up somewhere down the line and haven't noticed yet. Or at least lower the Devotions damage to cover for the fact it has so much less recoil than the Spitfire. Maybe let the Spitfire hold it's damage over a longer range to make up for how much more awkward it is to use at long range.

I wish it were true but in practice it seems not to be from my testing. Second, Devotion doesn't become the fastest firing gun in the game, it is still behind the r97. 900rpm iirc? I think it has to do with the required skill vs effectiveness. Hemlock takes little to no skill to use and it's effective at all ranges. Before the patch, you could 1 burst kill people at close and medium range, and 2 burst them at long range. Alternator is just as good, but requires you to tap fire to be effective at range and you need to understand its recoil pattern to use it effectively. It's not about kill times, it's about ease of use.

Agreed, lazer shot needs to be nerfed in almost everyway. perhaps a cooldown like the tripwires would be an effective way to prevent lazer shot spam? I also agree with northstar being outperformed by Ion. Ion needs ALL of her bugs to be squashed. being able to gain energy through crits without even having the kit is game breaking! perhaps a small buff to the splitter rifle or even the other kits can be an alternate idea to get people to use the rest of her kits. Lazer shot would then be nerfed of course Legion needs a very very slight nerf. He's too opressive sometimes, but he is not totally impossible to defeat. Tone is the most balanced titan in the game right now😃 Scorch needs to be able to damage ronin through his sword block. small nerf to ronin indirectly. Scorch also needs faster cooldown on incendiary traps. Ronin needs a nerf. Yes, really. Ronin in my opinion needs a nerf to sword core's duration, charge time or sword block damage reduction. I really never used ronin, but now he has really become my favorite through buffs and nerfs that happened indirectly this update. Northstar is in the same position as scorch. Very niche role, but i feel the tether traps need to be better in almost every aspect(cooldown, duration, etc)or create an alternate kit that gives her mines instead, at the cost of defense of course. G2 needs a nerf. i shouldn't be getting 3 shot killed across the map getting beat by them when i have a double take, which is a sniper btw. spitfire just needs less recoil. evrything else is fine so far

I don't think I've ever seen a single person EVER tap-fire the Devotion. Even the changes you added to the description still seem absolutely pointless to me. The only nerfs I think that will actually make a difference are either a lower rate of fire / drastically longer spin up time or outright lower damage per bullet.

bmd103 actually no: It consumes half energy per shot. Ion has half duration of any other ability after shooting once. after shooting twice the only thing ion can do is just shoot without splitting.

Is there anyone else on console who consistently sees 2-3 G2 in every match they play, regardless of game mode? It is ridiculously easy to use at range, and it even works up close with decent aim and a fast trigger finger. It just shuts people down trying to use movement to their advantage, while the guy with the G2 is getting kill after kill barely moving.

Raska07 lock it down a lane and chip away with legion while corner peaking, flank and run circles around it with ronin. Tone is my favorite to play but it's hopeless against those two tactics. Ions core will rip through tones shield wall then its health like it wasn't even there as well. I don't agree with the core nerf, and I can really feel the difference when trying to play aggressively with tone. Legion is my back up when there are enemy tone pilots with moderate skill.

Andre Diggs not at all dude wtf. Tone is still easily one of the best titans with great overall DPS output. If you were a tone main before and you are having difficulty succeeding now after the patch, that just means you need to git gud and learn how to use a titan that isn't insanely overpowered. ;)

Tone won't get nerfed until it gets an actuall weakness. Every other titan has roles it fulfills good and other things it struggles to do. Tone has splash damage, great defensive ability, decent health , decent speed, great range, ways to deal with cover and guarunteed hits as well as an ultra powerfull core.

I would argue that Spitfire needs to be brought up a lot more than Devotion needs to be brought down. yes, it's too powerful, but I think it fills a much needed niche as one of the few guns that can consistently beat SMGs at long ranges. SMGs are overpowered pretty much one and all, so more guns that can at least knock them down easily at long ranges is necessary for diversity of weaponry. I think it would be interesting to see all assault rifles and LMGs become more effective at long range while SMGs take a bit of a hit and see how that changes things.

frothy, whats ur opinion in an ability that would decrease all incoming fire by 50% if u were moving and not shooting? I thing it's a good balance that all players could use. in a troubled situation, lay off the trigger, and maybe get away. snipers could be more effective, because of their slow fire rate as well, but it wouldn't make them invulnerable.

also, maybe one that's a normal shuriken, you have three of them, each dealing 45 damage, and if you have a player in the sights when you throw it, it will flawlessly track them. essentially like a pilot lazershot, except not as powerful.

I am a master ION player. The laser shot is OP as fuck I love shooting ejecting pilots with it. and Yes Ion vs Northstar. Even at Long range Ion wins with the laser. UNless it's across the map.

I'm actually surprised how rarely Phase Shift gets a mention when it comes to nerfs. Right now it is the single most useful tactical in the game and only acceptable in order to counter other broken stuff. I'm quite puzzled that everybody thinks an ability that grants two charges of invisibility as well as invulnerability that are almost completely recharged w/ one single pilot kill when using Tactikill would be balanced. Furthermore I'm afraid Ion (i.e. Laser Shot) won't see a nerf too soon. Laser Shot isn't as effective on console and as long as Respawn refuses to do system specific balancing a nerf to Laser Shot would most likely kill Ion on console. On PC though Laser Shot is the single most absurdly overpowered Titan ability right now: -it can kill Pilots at any range and in every situation (Titan eject, roofs, buildings, in the open, wallrunning ...) -it does an absurd amount of damage against enemy Titans at any range, especially on crits -there is no real counterplay to it as long as you restrict yourself to peeking with it A possible nerf to Laser Shot could include either -a some reduction to its range or -a higher energy consumption (e.g. 55%) or -a smaller hitbox

Laser shot is not overpowered on console - aiming accurately with a controller isn't easy and takes some skill. Unless the pilots are standing still, I miss moving pilots quite often.

How about the buff to the Archer? Everybody seems to be using it now. Also, in my opinion all of the Titans seem really well balanced except for Northstar. I don't want to see a nerf to Ion b/c I find her to be a great counter to Tone (am I the only one?). I think Northstar could use some splash damage on her plasma rail gun (more charge more splash). Also the tether traps need a buff. Even something small like having them contribute to her core charge or making them larger so they obscure the trapped titan's vision more. Or.... my dream buff for NS would be to have her take reduced damage while using her core. Especially now that everybody is using the Archer. Anyways... Love your vids Frothy. Cheers

I hate Meadow. I missed Angel City. I like that Ion's laser shot is the way it is. It's one of those things that is individually great and would be very broken on Ronin as is or another titan. Tone just seems to do more damage overall anyway. The CAR doesn't feel crazy strong to me. Doing better with the R201. Matchmaking is great. I miss Angel City 24/7, but this mixtape selection is good.

I know not many people play without aim assist, but the devotion has become almost impossible to use after the patch without aim assist. The inaccuracy due to recoil is ridiculous. With aim assist, I struggle to see the difference after the patch. I think they need to tone down aim assist if they want that inaccuracy actually matter.
