This is my favorite version also. I really like the part when Barbara Stanwyck says to her husband Clifton Webb about her unfaithlessness that in his eyes it was not an immoral act, but a breech of etiquette. Never heard it put quite that way before.

This 1953 version of the Titanic is my favourite. The Catholic priest, although disgraced, becomes a hero: "For God's sake I will." I remember seeing this version at a theatre in my hometown. And, of course, Barbara Stanwick was wonderful. She was in the Thornbirds as well. And she asks a young priest: "Kiss me. Kiss me on the lips!" A retired priest in Canada.

To answer somebody's questions; Audrey Dalton was born in Ireland, as was Brian Aherne. I felt that he was totally miscast as Captain Smith, who was short and somewhat stocky. Also, Aherne simply did not project the forecefulness, the intelligentence, of the commander of a major ocean liner. Coincidence: in 1943 he starred in a contemporary mystery movie title "A Night to Remember'.

Even though this movie was I believe the 2nd of 3 versions--- I believe I like this as well as the 1995 film. They are somewhat different in the story telling. But, some similarities as well. No matter what film the one thing that totally is disrespectful-- is someone singing a hymn by someone who doesn't know the song, in question. As I watched the daughter, she sang and honestly didn't know the words. You'd think the director would notice that. I suppose it doesn't matter whether or not one can sing in the house of the Lord. This isn't the first time I've seen this happen. I've seen this disrespect in other movies. Other than that, I certainly enjoyed this movie. Thanks so much for the upload.

Yes, this version is inaccurate but I enjoy it as an excellent work of fiction. I particularly like the no-nonsense Barbara Stanwyck and the down-to-earth Thelma Ritter. I've only seen Audrey Dalton one other time, on "Bonanza". I hopt that talented actress did a lot more work. With her upper-class accent I can't tell if she's American or British. Does anyone know?

This is so 1950s Hollywood. Does anyone in this film have a British accent? The total lack of attempt to capture anything remotely accurate to 1912 is a little distracting. It’s as if the Titanic set sail from Long Beach. Still the emotional impact is powerful and that’s really what this version is about. All the sets are grossly inaccurate and it’s all very Hollywoodized. Compare it to A Night to Remember and you will see the difference. That movie practically transports you.

the 1997 film was not awful, but it was mostly effects of all kinds and less plot...the older films were mostly plot and less or not at all effects...and alas, today's cinema is mostly effects...good writing, good stories are very very hard to find in today's films...
