I agree, it works much better, and is much more authentic. In my opinion, it does a much better job of driving home the fact that this was a real ship, and a real disaster, where 1,496 people died, even though much of the footage is of the Olympic, as very little footage of the Titanic survives today. If I am correct, Titanic was filmed at her launch and docked at Southampton, but these films are unfortunately considered lost.

Cameron should have done this! The opening titles on the released movie is still haunting but this actually gave me chills

I’m glad he did not because the footage of the ship departing port is the Olympic, not Titanic. That being said, A Night to Remember should have used those footage in their opening credits. Because they obviously did not have access to the budget and the technology Cameron had during the 50s to recreate every aspect of Titanic, so they should have used footage of Olympic when needed instead of those ships videos they ended up using that don’t resemble at all any of the Olympic Class liners.

It is actually titanic’s sister ship, the Olympic, which was made before titanic and never sank.

I'm sure you've heard the news that David Warner, who was both Lovejoy in James Cameron's "Titanic" and Lawrence Beesley in "S.O.S. Titanic", sadly passed away a few days ago. I have to say, it's quite sad to see one of my favorite actors pass. I didn't just like him because he was in two Titanic movies (three if you count "Time Bandits"). He was just a great actor in general, and that voice of his I could recognize from anywhere. Rest in peace, David. We miss you.

Even though it’s Olympic (Titanic’s sister) I think it hits you harder because it is actual footage. And would have made the later sense sadder cause they would have seemed a lot more real. But that’s just my opinion.

Some little known passengers had a premonition that the ship was cursed and they were lucky to not boarded it at that time… It’s one of the great mysteries of the ill-fated and tragic ship of the 20th century

Hey how did you do that transition to the water surface shot with the title card popping up? I mean, such transitions should also allow a small fragment of the previous shot of the second footage come between, right? Please reply.

I just faded into the title card shot later than the fade was in the original film so it didn't appear

The very first 1-2 seconds of the ship you see is, titanic in dry dock. She’s nowhere near finished yet.
