i never understood why titanic gets so much hate from people , and by people i usually mean men , i can honestly say i am NOT into romantic movies , but titanic man , its just different , the romance was functional and it made me care enough about the characters so when shit goes down i am invested as fuck in it

yeah, because a movie about the Titanic sinking would be, you know, a documentary. In a movie you need characters

I'm a guy and I love Titanic. Not because of the romance (even though it has grown on me to love it now) but because of the sinking scenes and some of the actors. The story was great and everything was emotional in a great way. When I was young I hated the romance of this film, now I can't help but admire it. Because it was built up and these two lovebirds fight for dear life to just keep it going. I swear, this couple deserved to live happily-ever-after. And I find it ironic that even though I'm actually rooting for them they don't get the happy ending, except for the part when Rose dies and reunites with Jack in the afterlife (or rather after-Titanic-life). All I'm saying is that I love Titanic and I'm going to give it my very own rating of "Amazingtacular".

Just saw for the first time. I loved it. The film is truly beautiful through and through. The filmmaking in this video looks a better and a higher quality than most movies ten year later. Way ahead of it time in terms of technology. It was made in 1997 and looks like it was made last year. The romance really hit the feels. The relationship really genuine. It's a beautiful movie in every way possible. Not perfect. It has blemishes but it's the fastest 3 hours in a movie I've experienced. Getting it on blu ray. Classic film.

Most people only know about the Titanic disaster because of that film which is why it's one of my favourites. It's one of those films that leaves you staring at the end credits feeling numb and moved. I only wish they had put more focus on other characters besides Jack and Rose like the Officers and real first class passengers. Although, I guess the romance made it more entertaining and symbolised the tragedy with Jack dying- a dream turning into tragedy.

And it really hauntingly conveyed the chaos and fear that the passengers were experiencing at the time of the sinking.

I"ve been a Titanic nerd all my life. I read Night to Remember when in junior high, so when the movie came out, I was all prepared to hate it. But damn! It swept me away. The effects, the costumes, the scenery were spot on. And the sinking was awesome. You are totally right about the unforgettable shots: the rocket in the middle of the ocean, the guy doing the header off the ship only to bounce off the propeller blade. But also when Rose is looking up from the boat at Jack and Hal and the rockets stream down in the background, AND when the ship finally goes underwater and you can see "Titanic" on the stern and it's slipping away under the water. Amazing. BTW, the reason the people in the life boat were cutting the ropes was because a second lifeboat was coming down on top of them. They had to free themselves so they could move out of the way. That's an actual fact that came out during the hearings. Also, there is a movie here on youtube that deals with the story of the crew. I forget the name, but it's only about an hour and a half. It's fictional of course, because most of the crew did not survive, but it's incredibly moving. Everyone should check it out.

Aside from the lovey dovey crap it's actually a really well made film. The attention to detail alone shows that Cameron really cared about the film, as well as insisting on going to the actual wreck and building a replica when cgi would have probably sufficed. I believe it had the biggest budget of any film to that point and whilst Cameron was known to be a dick, the end result more than justifies his ego I think. Didn't Kate Winslet say she wouldn't work with him again unless it was for a shit load of money?

The chicks loved titanic doesn't mean it's bad movie, it's one of the most iconic movies in the history , I don't understand why males ashamed of accepting it, I like T2 and aliens so does that mean it's only movie for mindless dickheads , no it's not, all these movies are great in their own genre, just by criticizing titanic are we just trying to satisfy our male ego?? So don't try to insult it by saying that 'chicks just made it big by watching again and again' Only narrow minded assholes can shout like that

They're actually supposed to be Isador and Ida Strauss, founders of Macy's. She wouldn't leave without him and gave up her seat on the lifeboat to their maid. They're the real love story.

It would not help at all. Jumping from Titanic was like jumping from a tall building, and at that height water becomes almost solid. Also, the extreme temperature would have instantly caused people to lose their breath and drown much quicker. Also, as help didn't come for a while, you will be stuck in freezing water for hours slowly dieing. The cork inside the lifebelts would also be thrown into the persons jaw if they jumped. Staying on board the ship for as long as possible was best.

Honestly, as James Cameron fan, I hated this movie back in '97 because I couldn't believe a director who made action masterpieces like Terminator (1&2) and Aliens would sink (no pun intended) to making Romeo & Juliet on a boat. But now, as I've watched it again at a more mature age, I've realized that this movie is awesome. It tells you a tragic story all while paying respects to real-life victims. A disaster flick that actually has emotional depth... Michael Bay should take notes.

I mean one of the main parts that makes a film good is character growth. Some films fail and some do it very well. I think Titanic does it very well, you feel like you're actually sinking along with the ship but that's just my opinion
