some of the few things additional things i personally like about each- 1- stainless steel is so shiny and bright and so it's tempting and appetizing to eat from. you feel like it's "quality" because it is heavier (even though that's an illusion) and there are different finishes - shiny/matte etc. the feel is so soft and smooth u kind of appreciate it and love it. it's been tried and tested always so you feel like you can trust it and it's familiar. you'd probably find alot more variety and availability too. 2- titanium has that really awesome feel of plastic- i mean it's clean/clear and soft when you eat. you don't feel like the spoon is hitting your teeth or that it's "steely". it has the neutral and softish feel of plastic (the good kind). i feel like i'm eating from plastic except it's made of steel which is such a win. the lightness seriously affects me when you have a big pan or pot and you fill it with water, esp if it's compared to a heavy duty SS. and honestly i actually like that the food cools off faster with titanium personally. in winter it's probably better with SS while ur sipping and not actually hungry, but more like warming up. but in regular temps, i hate when i boil water and make ramen, etc and i'm hungry af and just slowly sipping while burnig my tongue hoping it's gotten to an acceptable temperature after spending 30 minutes deluding myself constantly that it's cooled off. it's the worst. feels like titanium is a good investment if you really are in love with a specific type of cooking pot/pan you know you will carry with you always and is the exact dimensions and style you look for. i don't think it matters much when the SS cookware you're carrying is relatively small. (cups, etc) i've gone with SS. mainly. buti have a confession to make. i was cooking all at home. none of them happened while hiking or camping XD

one thing i discovered since the last time i posted this is that titanium likes to warp when you heat it up in very cold weather, especially once you empty the contents. Out of everything i prefer cast iron but its stupid heavy so i only use it car camping lol

Very good illumination of the difference. Enjoyed the video. I have a Light my Fire titanium spork and it is very nice. Thin, strong, light. I am thinking about replacing my GSI cup with a titanium version. But like you said it would not make that much of a difference. My GSI cup really gets it done so hard to justify. I use my GSI cup in conjunction with a Kupilka cup. Just recently got the larger 12 oz version of the Kupilka cup. Holds heat better than stainless, can use to warm hands even when coffee poured hot, and can set it in snow with less thermal impact. Also allows me to drink and heat water or cook at same time. I tie my Kupilka to the outside of my pack. Looks good with a nice outdoor aesthetic and light.

Hey, thanks for the inspiration. That Toak's 850ml titanium pot looks like just what I needed for a new cook kit. (Volume and the design of the folding handles.) Not a big fan of insulated handles, but can live with it. Well, turns out Toak's discontinued that particular pot. No one seems to have it in stock. Found a seller in China on eBay with a supply of the Toak's 800ml pot. Same pot as their 850ml version but without insulated handles and, obviously, 50ml less volume. But when it comes to the 800-850 range in milliliters, 50ml has no pragmatic difference. So, all good. Thanks again.

i prefer stainless steel over titanium, simply because the titanium you get from most chinese manufacturers use different grades of titanium that could have impurities in it as well as most that i have seen have some kind of coating and who knows what that is doing to your food or water as you boil and cook it in the pan.

Thanks for the video! I prefer titanium for just boiling water, if doing any real cooking stainless steel or anodized aluminum is much better (higher heat conductivity, less hot spots). The Evernew titanium .9L pot is my all time favorite if I had to choose just one.

There is much more affordable titanium cookware arriving on the slow boat from China. Tomshoo and Lixada are two names that come to mind. Bangood, GearBest, and Ebay are well known sources. There are mystery brands which are even cheaper. Recently bought 900ml pot/ cup with hanging bale for $25.

Titanium is cool and light but anodized aluminum is a much better conductor of heat. That copper bottom pan you have is a good choice. Copper is best , but very expensive and heavy. Aluminum is about as good as it gets for light weight and conducting heat and holding heat longer. But for just boiling water Ti is good.

Good stuff Leo! I’m more of a stainless steel guy because I get cheap. I don’t mind dropping cash on a knife or Star Wars figure lol but when it comes to cookware..lol I don’t think I’ve ever owned titanium. Plus I enjoy car camping since I can bring more food and cast iron pans etc so weight isn’t as issue.

For the frequent backpacker and health cautious types, titanium cookware tends to be 99% pure titanium with that last 1% containing trace elements. Which means next to food grade glass it’s the least likely to leech heavy metals that can cause neurological diseases. Also my understanding is that titanium inhibits bacterial growth so if you’re a through hiker that doesn’t clean their pot well this may be a better option along with the weight savings. Also add that when it comes to titanium fry pans, heat dispersion is an issue and thus hot spot and sticking is a frequent problem. But if I understand things that can mostly be mitigated with seasoning the pan like cast iron and using a burner with a wider heat deflector much like the big GSI Glacial stove. Of course sacrificing boil times in pots but you gotta figure your balance

Good video. I'm definitely a titanium fan, cost difference sucks but after searching I found that boundless voyage branded Ti products were substantially cheaper, still more than SS lol, also the lid design with boundless voyage actually stays on. My collection of Boundless Voyage so far, a little bit added when I can, is the Dragon Horse folding stove, collapsible gasifier stove, two coffee cups, rectangle grill, and arriving today their canteen mess kit. A little bit here and there and eventually it begins to grow, I want to get a couple more things in time but I almost got my backpacking cook system finished. I will also add that the Dragon Horse folding stove was a $110 Canadian which was still cheaper than a couple of the well known brand folding stoves SS versions.

I’m saddened that most people don’t know of the picogrill, especially for how much lighter is is than any other stove out there. The only thing that trumps them is the Toaks gasifier stove, for me, because I stealth camp and the smoke is something I don’t like. But still the picogrill 85 is literally always in my backpack

I am testing solid copper vessel to boil water and its proving to be 25 percent quicker. The soot also doesnt adhere like steel. Totally worth the weight. Everything else seems stupid now. I have a very lightweight double sided drinking cup. Titanium has hot spots. I am 64 and know what's worth it

- Motorcycle camping. I go Lite, but not ultra-lite. - Reflectix rules ! - The only titanium I own is that long spoon. :) (A must have w/Stanley set) - I don't weight gear. Just try to go minimalist. My wife is less than 150#, so when I solo-cy camp (no passenger) I keep my gear load out to around 100lbs, depending on how many days. - The wife will tent/car camp, but not dispersed camp. So when CY-camping I'm solo. The backpacking info helps with me look at me solo camping gear. But when we tent camp, we have the bike trailer, so load limits are no issue. -Thanks for the review - more justification not to dump cash into a bunch of Titanium gear since I have a garage full of SS and aluminum camping cook gear. :D -Happy trails - ride safe!!!

My 1.1 litre Rocket brand stainless pot (identical to MSR Stowaway) at 287 grams is about 180ish grams heavier than a similar sized Toaks pot but 1/3 the cost and has a lockable lid. My 3 day winter hike pack weight is 19kg (41.88lbs), and with 8kg of that being water as Australia has little to no surface water out in the wilderness. Two or three sips of water and that 186 grams is gone. Plus stainless just looks better. If my pot was made in titanium I’d buy one tomorrow, but none of the designs available suit me.
