I just had to fix mine on a 2002 700 twin. The two inner most gears that you mentioned marking, actually have timing marks on them.

Where do you suggest to get the parts for this? I have a 2001 Polaris 6x6 500? Mine will shift into Reverse easy but gears grind when I shift into forward high.
@joeyquigley37945 жыл бұрын
Bought a 04 ATP 500 and the left gear you see had about 6 teeth missing and I found them where the spring was sitting...... Was impossible to get it into park and the linkage would move back and forth freely in high gear about 4 inches. I'm assuming this was from kids jamming it into gear without putting their foot on the break.

I have this exact same issues. Did you find a fix for it? I have been trying to figure it out for a week now...Any help would be appreciated!

@@briankern5166 i found that the pouly was not perfectly aligned, so the side of strap was still in contact with and made it imposible to shift. Had to add washer behind the pouly. Hope it will help you!

what about a grinding noise and the shift lever shaking as you hit the throttle to drive is this the same issue yours was having?? I suspect the transmission but wasn’t sure if it could just be the gears selector spring

I have a question? I have a polaris 700 sportsman twin efi and when im running in high gear it bogs down and dosen't have enough power to even load on to a trailer, anyone run into this issue. Any feed back would be awesome.

Have you ever had one that would shift between high and reverse fine, but when you shift into low, it doesn’t want to go back into neutral to shift into anything else. Now it’s not wanting to easily shift out of reverse either. Tranny fluid looks good and is at a good level. Also, the override button does not work. No AWD in reverse and it won’t give me the tach or hours. Do you already have videos covering these issues? I have a 2003 500 HO Sportsman.
@TitaniummanGarage3 жыл бұрын
I have a couple videos on this. Sounds like your shift rods are out of alignment. disconnect the low shift rod from shifter. make sure its in neutral. move the low gear at the tranny with a pliers. make sure its in the right position. see if high and reverse shift while it is disconnected. check to see if rods are bent.

Does anyone know what that spring part number or name is?
@richardwilliams13342 жыл бұрын
Thank you mate clicked on here looking for something entirely different. Nice to know these things as this could happen to me anytime. I've never worked around gas driven things let alone own such tools to repair anything such as a ATV etc. I was looking for and still looking for the gear shifter or what ever its called for a old Polaris Magnum. Every video shows pretty much every thing else but the hand gears both high and low. No manual or anything came with the dam thing and so I have this problem of locating the high or low gear on the thing, let along which is high gear or low or any gear. And no the dash lights don't go so nothing there eather.
@TitaniummanGarage2 жыл бұрын
On the magnum and sportsmans, the older ones. High is strait forward. Neutral is in the middle and reverse is strait back. Towards you. Shift into neutral and in neutral jog to the right and up is low gear. The pattern is like an upside down h

I just cleaned mine up aswell. You did mention you wouldn't go the route of pumping it full of grease. I did on mine 😂. Just wondering what your thoughts are on do that?
@TitaniummanGarage4 жыл бұрын
It probably is a good idea. water will not get inside then.
@GrumpyGenXGramps4 жыл бұрын
You can put a spacer under the spring to test it before you order a new one In case you have something else still going on and have to order another part. Nothing’s worse than waiting 2 weeks for a part only to find out that you needed something else too!
