Love your videos!! I like the knowledge!! I would suggest a thread zap, 12 bucks at hobby lobby or Amazon. So that way there is no open flame around feathers!! Keep up the great work!!

The "acorn" type bells were created by Pete Asborno decades past. His workmanship was superb and, because of their construction, bells on opposite legs had different pitches.
@WildlifeCommandCenter

Yes, I'm 56 and my hearing is not what it used to be so having the different tonals helps me keep up with the birds, especially when I have three in the woods at the same time. Pete Asborno was a true craftsman, I'm never come across any of his bells.

Will that legwarmer skirt floof grow back over time? And how cold is too 🥶 cold for them to be out hunting w/o it?
@WildlifeCommandCenter
@WildlifeCommandCenter Жыл бұрын
yes, it will. Harris hawks don't do well below 25 degrees. they pretty much let you know they aren't going if below 25.

Getting those bells on looks challenging, yet beneficial. I saw photos of squirrel chaps covering so much of a hawk's foot looking like a leather skirt.
@WildlifeCommandCenter
@WildlifeCommandCenter 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, they do look like skirts, just too much for the HH's, I like to run them lean!

When the fella bit the string thought he was going to try to bite thru. Almost turned off the video before he lost a tooth.... whew. Prolly a heat shield would work When applying flame near the feathers.

@@WildlifeCommandCenter Question: Is trimming the 'floof' optional? I understand needing to clear the base of the deck feathers to tie on the bell, but can I just rubber band the floof out of the way while doing it, so my bird can keep their leg warmers?
@WildlifeCommandCenter
@WildlifeCommandCenter 3 жыл бұрын
@@teddiliza absolutely in colder climates certainly, however if you keep breeding hawks it’s good to move the extra fluff out of the way of “other” things
