Wonderful Level 3! I spent plenty of time down there with simulated and real comm problems, part of the joy of being a Deputy. Great video! Major Mark Clark USAFR Ret, former senior DMCCC at MCAFB and LRAFB.

Major Mark, Did the Crews ever discuss how they thought about spending their last 28.5 days of earth life? In my year in Vietnam, after sufficient ETOH, we might talk about how we wanted to "go:" quickly! Thank you, Sir, for standing on the Line of Deterrence. Assured we had relative peace during the so-called "Cold War."

Mark I worked at LRAFB from 83 to 87 when we closed the last one down. I was in Radio Communications with the IRCS shop. I maintained the 1000 Watt Transmitters and the Receivers, Data Encoders, Decoders, Audio Oscillators and so much more. It was the best time of my life! This brings back some great memories! Thank You for your service!

Grim outcomes no matter what. If the crew was entombed with no way out i would think that those bullets in your .38s would look awfully tempting after awhile... great video!

Thank you, Dave. [Sorry, don't know your Rank ... guessing might offend 😂] Did the Crews ever discuss how to spend their last 28.5 days of earth life? In my year in Vietnam, after sufficient ETOH, we might talk about how we wanted to "go:" quickly!

Are there any BMATS out there who can tell me about the onboard missile power batteries?

they removed the silo's bathroom. Too bad, it would have been super cool to use the same toilet as the missileers.

Why didn't the Air Force put an oxygen candle down there? It would have made perfect sense from a survival standpoint. Then again, everything about nuclear weapons is very sinister.

Indeed. Once the keys were turned and the missile was launched, the job was done. It’s WWIII at that point, not much left for them or anyone else to do so being entombed in that silo with no escape was a very real possibility. The officers had .38 caliber revolvers with 12 rounds for each to do with whatever you can imagine.
