I was watching the 6th game of Magnus versus Iturrizaga at 1:11:34, having Stockfish 9 calculating the position alongside the game, and it was amazing to see how Magnus just kept playing the moves the engine recommended, even when we were talking slow positional moves. After having fianchettoed both bishops on move 6, Stockfish agrees with EVERY SINGLE CARLSEN MOVE from move 7-18 (disagreed on move 19, where it preferred fxg6 over Rae8). What a machine.

2:03:02 BigMak2500 is a genius. After getting a hopelessly losing position he finds a creative way to win: disrespects his opponent by not resigning, opponent tries to teach him a lesson by giving him a false hope of stalemate, opponent gets forfeited by mod for wasting everyone's time, BigMak2500 wins.

Actually, you're forgetting that every time a piece is captured the count starts over, so he can also give up his queens as needed to prolong the count, and if that was the goal, he could have engineered black into having a pawn to promote and that would have added a whole bunch of moves if they were conspiring the make a really long game.

Eric Hanson might lack a little va-va-voom as a commentator but his chess insight and vision is exceptional. @zepeterinma4 жыл бұрын
@Shawn Mendenall Absolutely, it's strange because each year he seems to be doing just as well as the last year. Magnus was having a bad day when he was playing Hikaru, who was at the top of his game, despite this- Magnus still managed to pull off a win. He's a class above all of the other super-gms, especially when it comes to his versatility and adaptability to different time-formats. Champions before him would discredit quicker time controls playing it off as not-real-chess. While Magnus decided to conquer them as well, and proved that the skills from classical and rapid chess do indeed translate to better chess vision and a higher ability to play the correct moves in quick time controls.

So...."trashes" is on a different tier than "thrashes." "Trashing" someone/something is a bit more intense and permanent, leaving broken and scattered pieces following the wake of destruction. As a byproduct, moderate to severe psychological damage can occur.

@bloxorzwizard79315 жыл бұрын
Magnus should have listened to your second suggestion in the game with Benjamin. When the Black queen was on g6, Bh5 was devastating as it drives the Q into some nasty discoveries on f6 as Qh7 gets murdered by Qg4, because Bf7 is threatened and if Black plays F5 then the e file is fatally weakened, not to mention that Be5 was also devastating to the Q by driving it into bad squares. or forcing serious concessions.

The trolling could have continued about 147 more moves than Eric said, right? Get 4 queens, then force the black king to capture one every 49 moves, resetting the 50 move rule?
@azimuthal13927 жыл бұрын
Yes, as you point out Eric was forgetting the last 50 moves after the last pawn push in his account as well. Good point! So it was about 200 more than he thought.
@azimuthal13927 жыл бұрын
though actually I'm not sure whether Eric meant "150 moves until the end" or "150 moves until last reset of the 50 move rule," so maybe either of our interpretations is plausible. Either way, that's a lot of trolling! I wonder whether chess.com will try to outlaw this practice in future.
