I used to go to Blackman’s gym quite a bit and wrestle in his ring with his students. I would just randomly show up and get in the ring and start doing stuff and it usually ended up with a few people in the ring with me. Never paid for a membership, wasn’t part of the school… But they always were fine with me hanging out. I really appreciated that, as it was the closest ring in the Harrisburg area that I knew of. At least at that time. Other than that, I would’ve had to go to Allentown or Reading. Which is where I trained. So thank you Steve and crew at his gym. I haven’t been back up to PA for a bit, but next time I do, I may stop in and say hey.

@ScottBeck796 ай бұрын
I'd agree with that statement. Blackman could have done something in MMA in the early 2000s still before it got too big and considering this interview was 2007, he'd have had plenty of time to make a splash because if I am not mistaken, he also had a good amateur wrestling background. It wasn't until about 2003-2005ish -- anything after that, he'd have needed more than just great kicks and wrestling because in the "Brawl for All" his punches were pretty horrific -- in all fairness, he didn't have time to train and the only one who had better hands than him when it came to being technical in boxing was Marc Mero and Bart Gunn when it came to overall KO power. Hell, he could have been on the first season "The Ultimate Fighter" probably on his name recognition alone and I'm surprised that him and Bart Gunn didn't at least make an attempt at that. Maybe they did but I never heard any stories about it from them or even Dana White. The best thing about Chuck Norris is that he will readily admit he was only "for show" and never for competition AND he got involved in all of those martial arts -- He's a legit black belt in BJJ and he's in better shape at 80+ years old than many so called "men" at half his age. That all being said, Chuck is still a man's man in a world where people think someone born with a penis and natural testosterone flowing through their body should compete in female sports....because of feelings.

Add Shamrock and you would have had a legit badass stable that would have kept people wondering if they were shooting or not.
@alexello11896 ай бұрын
@@MortonT1958 that’s a no brainer can’t believe I forgot about him! Put them in an angle with the hart foundation and have the focus be which team has the better submission. Do that from wm 13 with a fresh heel hart and you can stretch it all the way to survivor series. Put the tag belts on owen and davey at or just after summerslam, hart has the title, the whole dynasty is on top for that period. During that time, dx is messing with the hart foundation and Bret hart, interfering with matches and aiding MMA, sometimes it works sometimes the hart family pulls through and wins. Have the MMA team win at survivor series and the screw job more or less plays out the same. Then MMA transitions into a feud with DX. Dx claims they wore the harts down for MMA and that they owe DX a title shot. Can either go back and forth with the title or let MMA hold them till the next mania. Then when DX expands and the new age outlaws join, they’re the ones that beat MMA for the titles at the next PPV.

Short soundbytes and they can get by easily, tell them to cut a 6 minute promo on why they outclass the harts, it’ll be brutal. Jim cornette himself said there was a particular way to use guys like Severn and shamrock and he left notes before he left the creative team.
@ScottBeck796 ай бұрын
If you're talking about the who's who of badasses in that particular era (late 90s) you can't have a conversation without Don Frye, Ken Shamrock and of course Dan Severn. Steve Blackman had great kicks and a pretty good wrestling background but when it came to his boxing, it was subpar to someone like Shamrock or Frye. Still, I think he could have made a splash in MMA at that time if he had given it a shot and personally, I would much rather see that than people getting "worked" punches thrown at them that aren't actually connecting. Don Frye & Dan Severn have their own podcast called Dan & Don's Toxic Masculinity. I wouldn't doubt if they have Blackman on at some point because they're making the rounds with all the older wrestlers and fighters and while they aren't exactly the best "interviewers", but hey had Mick Foley, Godfather and Bradshaw on as well and those were all really good conversations. In fact, most of the conversations I've listened to have been pretty good; especially the ones with Ken Shamrock and Bas Rutten. If you go listen to that podcast, but you've never seen the Shamrock & Frye fight along with the lead up to it, go find it on KZbin. It will make what they talk about in that 3+ hour talk make a lot more sense.

I always wanted to see Blackman and Shamrock actually mma fight, I kinda think Shamrock would have taken him but I just haven’t seen enough of Blackman fight.

During his pro wrestling career, Vader pissed off a lot of the guys he worked with. However, Steve Blackman was not to be f*cked with. Blackman beat the hell out of JBL at an airport baggage carrousel. He was not going to take any sh*t from Vader.
