@walterkoziol38224 жыл бұрын
I'm sure he did Damien cause he was in the bizz long enough to know that. Hogan was/is a notorious backstabbing bastard. He doesn't know what loyalty is even if it bit him painfully hard on his ass. He was definitely Vince's stoolie and professional ass kisse cause he enjoyed the money he was getting. After all you don't bite the hand that feeds you even when that greedy asshole of a boss isn't talking some of that money to help the injured or to even setup some retirement for them. When he took over completely those expenses were some of the first to go. And if you don't hear anything more from the wrestlers is that I'm sure all of them had to sign some agreement that they can't bad mouth Vince Jr or the company even if they stopped wrestling or expect to payback a lot of money when it goes to court. The ones that do blow are the ones who didn't have that clause in their contracts, made more money after wrestling that they don't give a shit about what Vince Jr can take back, and finally the ones that are so disgusted that they don't give a shit anymore. These are the ones that gave all of themselves and got so badly injured that can't work or do other stuff because their bodies are physically broken. Ventura was right that they needed to form a union to protect themselves. If you look at a lot of these wrestlers they gave everything to help Vince Jr to get where he is now, these wrestlers don't have a pot to piss in. So if your feelings are hurt because you are/were a Hulkamaniac then too damn bad. Becoming a stoolie and a backstabber ranks as one of the worst things to do in the world when a friend or family member does it. If you hung around Hogan you're asking for big trouble even though by being around the guy could really bolster one's career. Jesse knew how the game is/was played. You may not like the man but respect him for his actions. He was looking out for himself cause he had a family to take care of and that just costs money.

@@walterkoziol3822 yes. Wrestlers work 3-4 nights a week, plus pay per views. Even though matches are choreographed, injuries do happen and wrestlers can wind up with early retirement. A union would offer some protection. Some injuries are life altering and wrestlers have to pay for their own health insurance, too. Ask Droz if he would have liked a union. Maybe he'd have a pension right now to help him survive.

@Damien Jones Most professional athletes are meatheads and dumbasses. The words of a true pansy.
@kevinpeach81294 жыл бұрын
@Damien Jones I mean you can't put the blame all on wrestlers it's not like anyone tells them to get their SAG card and they say no, maybe they will if you make it about film and acting because they aren't really actors first. And also it's very narrow minded to call even most pro athletes dumb because that's too far from the truth. Sure there are guys who seem like meatheads because they care more about moving a bunch of weight, I don't think they're real athletes to be honest. Athletes have to care for their body. How? They learn about it, they learn how their body moves and functions and what chemicals (food at least included lol) to put in their bodies. That is science. The whole dumb brute stereotype is so mythological, like if they were stupid dumbasses it would show more. They'd be breaking themselves or they'd be full of roids. About the SAG cards and that though, I honestly never heard of that. That is interesting and I'll have to look into that. Maybe promoters do say to them "Hey that's not important".

Jesse Ventura holds the distinction of being one of the only few people to get one over on Vince and outsmart him. Jesse Ventura had a strong point here. The Wrestlers should have listened to him and unionized. Running Man is one of my absolute favorite movies, and Ventura's part was indeed perfect for him. Extreme chivalry. "Code of the gladiators!" as Freedom says. And he also acted pretty great against the legendary Richard Dawson - Freedom just had enough, at a point, with the conniving Killian's scheming, and he told him so. Also starring Arnold's old fitness colleague, Sven Ole-Thorsen, who played Sven, Killian's bodyguard, who also turned on Killian at the end, having enough of his abuse. For years I didn't care anything about Pro Wrestling until Jesse Ventura was brought to prominence by his career in film as well as his writing books, and production of "Conspiracy Theory w/ Jesse Ventura" I was gratified to know that there's someone whose got the prominence that thinks a lot the way that many Americans do who are tired of the status quo and us being played by our government.

Jerry Only of the Misfits said while he was doing wrestling( I think with WCW at the time), he stood up one day and pitched the idea of a union to his fellow wrestlers. This was after a wrestler needed stitches and he found out there wasn't any health coverage, real doctor for any of them etc. He was gone the next day. They had canned him because again, the owners of these big wrestling establishments did not want that happening.

For those who wonder why professional wrestling needs to unionize, there's a recent video on the WrestlingNewsCo channel with CW Anderson (the name of the video is "CW Anderson: Everyone Hated John Laurinaitis and Vince McMahon’s Doctor Forcing Him Back to Work") where he claims that he only made about $40,000 in the year while technically serving as an independent contractor.

I know him trying to unionize and suing for royalties had people divided, but look at how far ahead of his time he was. And Vince was so mad that he quit to go do Predator, but when he came back and the summer of 87 rolled around, the weekly syndicated shows were constantly showing clips of Predator promoting the film because Jesse was in it. I think he realized early on that the videotape sales that were becoming available to rent everywhere was a way to get paid again, and quite frankly, he's right, getting his SAG card ensured that. Quite a few wrestlers had done a film or two up to that point, and obviously, Rocky 3 was the big one that people remember, but look at the wrestling to movie transition today, it's basically commonplace. I also had no idea that NBC was pushing to get Ventura back!!

I don't always agree with Ventura vis-a-vis his political views, but he's far from stupid and he always has something interesting to say. It doesn't surprise me that Hogan stooged Ventura out; Hogan apparently ratted on a lot of people to get where he was. Pro wrestling's always been a business, but the cutthroat nature...man, that is harsh.
@jeanmichelbasquiat44443 жыл бұрын
Always loved Hogan as a wrestler, but you can tell he always only looked out for number 1. And that says a lot when you get and have so much more than all your friends and co-workers.

Amazing to think what would have happened to the industry if the guys in that locker room before Wrestlemania 2 had listened to Jesse and unionized, the entire industry remoulded forever not by a promotor, a business man or TV exec, but by one very smart renegade wrestler trying to make the industry a better, safer place for all.

Jesse pitched his idea to every wrestler, not just Hogan. He pitched it and they said no. Jesse was just bitter because people didn’t do what he wanted; something that happened quite a bit during his life.
@CapAnson12345 Жыл бұрын
Why wouldn't Hogan though? He was in the early days of becoming the most famous wrestler on the planet and making a metric fuckton of money. Most of that probably goes away if there's a union. Hogan ends up paying all the other wrestlers essentially. Almost keep in mind at that point wrestling was still "real" and unionizing would almost certainly break kayfabe. And I suppose they weren't ready for that? Hogan probably thought Ventura was betraying HIM.

@cryptozoomauler55054 жыл бұрын
He was referring to what the audience would know them as. It's true, that Georgia Championship Wrestling and Jim Crockett Productions wouldn't merge to become WCW until October 1988, but Jesse was just simplifying.
