They tried to make HTM a commentator because Vince liked the idea of having a three-man team and they still needed someone to replace Jesse Ventura as the heel commentator. Piper filled the role that Bruno and Superstar had, as the babyface commentator, since Piper was a good guy by that point.

I used to comment on Rhythm & Blues' act at Wrestle Mania VI, where they were supposed to sing their latest hit with Jimmy Hart holding the golden record in his hands of that so called new hit of theirs. Which first of all astonished me, because I thought that the golden record was for real, so I was always wondering who bought their singles. The first thing that was great about their act, was when they came in with the Pink Cadillac. After all those years of hearing the Honky Tonk Man's entrance song : "Coming through your town in my Pink Cadillac..." Finally we got to see his Pink Cadillac. Great stuff. They sang their new number one hit once and just when they were about to do the "encore" because the fans in attendance really asked for it... Yeah right... All of sudden there were two goofy guys at ringside, pretending to sell magazines or whatever and the Honky Tonk Man noticed they were the Bushwhakers. The Bushwackers stepped into the ring. I think one of them gets knocked down with the guitar or not, but the Bushwackers quickly got the advantage and destroyed the guitars in the middle of the ring, while Rhythm & Blues ran away with Jimmy Hart... on foot. I know the air time might have been the reason, but I always found it a missed opportunity where they could have tossed in an unexpected extra match. No matter what the outcome. Or maybe Rhythm & Blues win after distracting the referee and one of them Bushwackers get knocked cold with a guitar. And afterwards the Bushwackers destroy the guitars. Anyways, the more I rewatch that event and that particular segment, I do feel it was a missed opportunity.

Even as a kid i knew pro wrestling was pre determined. I already was pretty sure but as a kid i went to pittsburgh civic arena and looked in the gap of the double doors to the lockeroom area and seen Tony Gareeha talkin to and shakin' hands with one of the moondogs. But, i still enjoyed watchin' wrestling, just like i enjoyed watching a good movie that is not real. Greg Valentine was one of my top 3 wrestlers i loved. Even knowing that the matches where pre determined, i would still get caught up in Greg's matches because he was believable. He would make you mad at him because he showed he could win legitimately but would still take shirtcuts and cheat. He had a good wrestling body, his stiffness was apparent. He did the little things that convinced you he was a very capable wrestler and knew how to cause pain and injury to an apponent. He was a blue collar type of guy also, nuthin fancy just strait foward ass kicker

Once Vince got lod it killed the tag team division for good. First they killed rhythm and blues than demolition my favorite tag team of all time also killed power and glory is a other awesome tag team. Lod is a first ballot hall of fame tag team of all time no question bout that but in wwf they wasn’t that good compared to demolition bull dogs and the heart foundation.
@christopherbako18 сағат бұрын
I heard everything he said. Especially never forgot that Rick Rude named them.
@Adam-vs2in23 сағат бұрын
LOD and the nasty boys weren’t even around until after WM6 so up until that time you had- the rockers, hart foundation, demolition, bushwhackers, orient express, Andre and Haku who had a short title run. That was about it around that time. Powers of pain were split, rougeau brothers were split, brain busters were gone. I don’t remember a whole lot of teams around at that point. I think they just done away with honky and valentine because there was just nothing there.
@steve947321 сағат бұрын
Yup, and the only thing anybody remembers from them is their brief feud with The Bushwhackers. Aside from that, Honky and Valentine were past their usefulness.

This is a bit of trivia for you but I do believe that in actuality the HTM gimmick was in part somewhat based off of being an Elvis impersonator. If you pay close attention, you can see more than a couple similarities between HTM and Elvis. Both of them were musicians, the guitar and both HTM and Elvis wore the jumpsuits. A lot of people do not pick up on that. Oh and also both had black hair. Once you actually pay attention and notice it, it's hard not to notice it. I am glad I could educate you here, you are very welcome.

HTM was the King of the shoot interviews! He just didn't give a sh*t lol 😂 and would just tell it like it is. You can tell he's being honest. Most of them in the shoot interviews you could tell weren't as they were still warey of playing the politics game, making sure not to say the wrong thing about the wrong people for fear of perhaps not getting back in with vince & the company. Even if they were retired as they all still lived with the prospect of another payday or that Hall of Fame. Since most of the shoot interviews were done in the 00s, lots of the 80s & 90s wrestlers were still alive, and hoping for that phone call with a connecticut dialling code. McMahon probably made the hall of fame a big deal at that time, as a means of using it as a carrot to hang over their heads to keep them quiet. Because remember before the mid 00s the HOF really wasnt as big a deal, it was more of a private behind the scenes thing, not a big payday. Then there is always the stick as well as the carrot! With what we know now about Vincent K McMahon and his alter ego Vinny Lumsden he holds gruges and punishes people.

Rhythm & Blues was terrible even for a gimmick by WWF standards. They had a awful set at WM 6 but at the time I guess there was not a lot Vince had to work with. Honky shouldn't talk when it comes to substance abuse he likes to point the finger at everyone else lets face it most the wrestlers and people in the back were lubed up on this or that.
