“Larry the Eldritch Abomination”. It was originally a comedy in which the main character names a Cthulhu-like god Larry because it’s what he always wanted to name an octopus. Over five drafts and ten months later, it had turned into a psychological horror in which the eldritch abomination is never actually seen and instead acts as a force of nature haunting the narrative. I still call him Larry.

While I usually name mine right away, one of my personal favorite fanfics I've read felt like the chapter titles were just literally whatever the writer could think of. Complete randomness, and half the time the titles had nothing to do with the plot. Literally one was basically fluff and the chapter title is something along the lines of "Ultraviolence HD" and various other random things for chapter titles

I recently went through and renamed all my untitled docs so i could figure out which ones I could delete and I gave the ones I didn't delete really stupid names, which is how we ended up with "Jakob and Anthony (not clickbait) (Agent of Freeze)" Pretty sure either Jakob or Anthony's name had changed to Damien in the years since I wrote that but who cares lol, they are side characters in a larger narative (at best)

for multi-chapter things I tend to keep the chapters in separate documents, and for my most recent one I named the first chapter "chpater one" and thought the typo was funny and kept it for "chpater 2," but when I noticed the inconsistency in the number I decided to run with that too and make every chapter different. Since then, I have gained: - chpater 三 - chpater iv - chpater cinco - chpater 6⃣ - chpater I̶I̶I̶I̶I II - chpater thgie and there's one chapter left so I still have to think of one more way to say a number differently. I once used "the one where (character) goes feral" as a working title... The funny thing is, the fic that's REALLY about that character going feral is a completely different fic I wrote much later. But I hadn't planned that fic at the time I wrote the first one, the character does go feral at one point, and I had a title in mind for the second one from the start. In general I use that kind of format for my working titles - "the one where (character) (does something)". My finished titles are almost exclusively song lyrics. I have no regrets nor shame.

To be honest most of my working titles wind up being pretty close to the final titles because I have a thing for two word titles… this why I have “Team Boat”’ and “Beach Bod”, although the last one was originally “Beach Date”… and “Write Myself A Letter” is based off the Fats Waller song so it just *had* to be the title! On the other hand my first Fic was originally “Derpy’s Dolorous Day”, or DDD# in the endless drafts it went through before being mercifully published as “Wyward Friends” which was a much better title. But I still remember going through and adding new numbers to the end of drafts for months before I finally got it to a decent state!

I write in the notes app on my iPad (don’t judge) for most of my fics when they’re more scenes of a concept than a story with plot (there are a lot of these). The notes generally have two titles, one that’s descriptive of the general vibe, and one which is more informative including stuff along the lines of fandom+au/pairing/where it sits in canon. Descriptive titles have included “I can’t believe I’m actually writing this” “this just needs to get out of my brain” “why?” “[show] is apparently fic inspiring” and “au of the au of the au”.

I usually try to name my works something that's a bit overarching in the narrative, maybe related to a character arc or major themes. One just got named "fire ants fic" when I was working on it. They were a major part of the inciting incident in the first chapter and don't come up again until the very end, after the consequences of said inciting incident have played themselves out nearly completely.

I don't usually name give funny names to my files with fics or art, but I have an exceptions for each: I have one file for fic called "Abyss Gay" and one file for drawing called "ass posessed"

One of the fanfics i plan on doing is a oneshot where i basically see just how many pop culture references i can cram into one story I don't have a set name for the story yet, but the working title is "the ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny 2" (y'know...like the lemon demon song)

I’m of the opinion that all draft titles should be a little silly. My current two drafts are “Terzo’s road trip from hell” and “Wyll’s raging daddy issues”, however my best one was actually what I ended up using as my published title too: “don’t visit Boston without a map (or at least someone to get lost with)”

I have a multiple years old WIP named "Please Put a Title Here or Something". Honorable mention goes to "4 Idiots vs. Haunted Wheelbarrow". This video has led me to realize that I don't have very many documents. Am I the only insane person who writes all their oneshots on the same doc?

Not a single word doc or PowerPoint presentation on my USB stick has a fit title! They are all named after something random that they have! A PowerPoint presentation, that my grade heavily depended on, about the Cuphead game is saved on that stick as 'Dice'. Others I remember are PowerPoints called 'Pencil', 'Stick', 'Word' and 'PC'. Word docs are 'Midnight', 'Midnight 2.0', 'BMW' and 'Printer'. And currently sitting in my notes on my phone are stories that are named after Nathan from the Criminal Case games for my AUs book on Ao3, but because they are technically the same guy, they are all slightly different. Personal favorite is 'Orbthan'.
