The man that has stayed 100% loyal is Charlie. Background Vocals…Sax..keyboards. I absolutely love these guys! I met Daryl’s Mom many years ago..she was at a show of Theirs. She was in a wheel chair. I helped her at a show In New Jersey and did tell her that, “You must be proud of your son” …she smile and thanked me and said, “”Yes!”

Thank you so much for posting this show from the soulful heartland of Philly. Much appreciated as I had bought a ticket to see this Tour's show at an earlier date near Seattle but was unable to go. You made my dreams come true with a front row seat view - can never get enough of the legendary Daryl performing 😊

Let me start by saying I LOVE Daryl Hall... I listened to him since 1984... but this was not a good performance. I know he's much better than this. Maneater sounded off, like he didn't want to be there. Dreamtime was also off, really off. It wasn't until he performed Foolish Pride did he get back into his rhythm. He sounds best when he doesn't try to strain and take over a song and he just lets his natural tenor do its thing. I shook my head at Rich Girl, Kiss on my List, and Private Eyes. He sounded so tired. The voice that I fell in love with is still there, but it only shows up occasionally at odd moments. I wish he and John would make amends because they were truly great together. I'm teary-eyed as I write this because I truly love his songs and they were truly a wonderful duo, but they are not as strong apart.

He’s 77 years old. Aren’t his difficulties just a typical part of the aging process?
@claredin6 ай бұрын
@@mgee909 I went out with a man (Eddie Davis) who sang on street corners with Daryl when they were both at Temple. Eddie serenaded me in the car ride over to the restaurant we went to. Eddie still sounds great (it was my first date with Eddie so I was initially skeptical after hearing his work professionally recorded) and he had just finished a gig earlier in the day. I've also seen Michael McDonald recently and he's in his 70s now and still sounds great (he did lose a little bit, but he's still good). Daryl is not like those two. He's lost a lot. I still love Daryl, though, and am hopeful he and John will be friends again.
@Marooshaz6 ай бұрын
He hasn’t been a natural tenor for a few years now, that’s why a lot of the songs have been down tuned and he still struggles most when hitting the high notes. This has nothing to do with Oates, as their last few years of shows together were not much better vocally either.
@claredin6 ай бұрын
@@Marooshaz They were better than this performance, though. Sadly, LFDH has been editing all their old videos to make them sound better. I remember one of the great things about the show was the live aspect and all the nuances you can see in all the performances. They're now all edited and squeaky clean... as if he was putting a filter over his work.

Daryl's a legend, but this just does not sound good! Musicians seem so disinterested, some really bad audio going on w/feedback not helping anyone. Daryl just doesn't have it anymore.
@PunchBuggyDreams2 ай бұрын
Plus he has aged quite a bit. He looks frailer than what I remember and his voice wasn't quite there, but he's still the awesome iconic singer we all love.

Great video and greatly appreciate posting it..Father Time has caught up to many artist on tour now and Daryl unfortunately is one of them..great for folks that have never seen him live but for us most fortunes one to catch him back in his prime when he was superb when singin his hits..even the band seems as if they’re just cashing a check but are tight but just lackluster and not exciting at all.
@billyangelino9416 ай бұрын
@kelsey, you are right, time catches up to all of us, and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but not ever wanting to do anything except get along with everyone and being well loved in my town of Winter Haven,Fl, I always have to give my opinion. A lot of people have made comments on this concert, saying he is messing up his songs. Even in his younger days, Daryl always belted out his songs with a different twist live, his band, who have all been with him forever now, were always known for pretty much standing on their spot, so to speak, not the Stones, all over the stage, my opinion, great and underrated musicians, and as a drummer and musician since age five, sixty now, I can listen to a song, not like someone who just loves music, but can and does, break down a song while listening and hear the bass, lead, rhythm guitar, backing vocals, drums, etc..., and hear each individual and how good they are. Those of you that are musicians, know what I mean. Listen to Daryl sing, and he really has not lost it and lucky like some other singers. He can still hit the high notes, but again, live is totally different than being in a quiet studio and most importantly, I give him beyond one hundred percent credit, he is seventy seven years old now. How many every day working people can play multiple instruments, walk back and forth on a stage for two hours a night and sing even Mary had a little lamb? I have severe degenerative disc disease and many other neurological problems and nerve damage and several surgeries lined up, etc... I battle everyday to exercise, diet like you would not believe, most people say, you don't even enjoy a cheat day, no, I can't afford to, hard enough in the morning to bend, twist, put my shoes on without four meds and a fifth, an oxycodone, but I have a lot of life left, places to go, things to do, people to meet and I want to continue playing clubs and occassions with my band, because it is true, the crowd, and music is a natural high that juices me up with each show, best drug I have ever done. Be well and safe my friend, and I wish you the best of health to a ripe old age.

Where was his filter before he took this out. How did he not know he couldn't do this stuff anymore. The band is weak. There's no fire. Anywhere. And him singing an octave lower on the ad-libs on kiss on my list is where I want my money back

I like the gold shimmering suit jacket that the saxophone player is wearing. I have seen him in an old '80's video, when he was younger, and he still had short hair! Isn't it a trip how we all change as the years go by?
@runforrestrun61034 ай бұрын
More shouting and low register than singing in the Hall & Oates range. I loved the group, but I always felt the band sounded better with heavy production and reigning in Daryl's tendency to improv too much. However, a little singing on the edge is what gave his superlative voice the uniqueness and H&O sound! Awesome catchy tunes that never get stale... in recordings. He seems to be declining going into when he walked off the stage sick. I think it is more than covid. I hate to say it. What's up with the hand shaking at 21:15 pushing up his sunglasses? I DID love LADH with Todd Lungren. What year was that?

Thanks for posting Daryl's return to Philly. Am a huge fan of this true living legend, Saw him in previous tour with Todd Rundgren and both guys tore the place up., This tour with Elvis Costello just didn't match that energy. Sad to see him struggling with his vocals and he clearly is trying to deal with losing his upper octave. I hope he gets more comfortable. The backup vocals are also lame now...oh well. I will keep going to support his shows anyway. Hoping he allows himself to do more of his solo catalogue and new album cuts . TIME TO LEAVE THE HALL AND OATES STUFF BEHIND. Except Sara Smile of course!!!

Love Daryl Hall but he sounds like crap. He is not singing in key in parts and his voice sounded like he was straining to sing. He needs John Oats to help out. He seems to struggle carrying a show.

When Billy Joel was asked why musicians continue to perform long after their prime, he said it was because that's all they know. Daryl does not sound good here, but will probably continue to perform as long as people are willing to pay to see him. If I need my live Daryl Hall and John Oates fix, I watch the 1985 Liberty Concert. That is Daryl and John at their prime.

I never got John Oates. I don’t like his contribution of Maneater it’s the worst hit. Always preferred Daryl’s songs and voice. Kiss on my list & Private Eyes plus Ohilly Mood & Eyes For You.. i thought crap like Maneater was beneath Daryl.
@GrimmReaperJesse6 ай бұрын
@@lolodee3528 Be that as it may, Daryl had only 2 top 40 hits without John. I have a feeling that if his solo albums had been more successful, Daryl would have left H&O years ago. The partnership worked, but Daryl seems to think it was all him these days. Whatever the truth may be, his voice is shot, so his hit making days are over. I have no animosity toward him, just being honest.
@jesst69256 ай бұрын
@@GrimmReaperJesseDaryl was THE voice of Hall & Oates. I’m sorry, but without Daryl’s phenomenal voice, there would have been nothing there. Daryl didn’t need John to be famous, but John needed him simply because John never even came close to having the kind of voice Daryl did. Daryl still sounds pretty good for his age. Idk what some of you want when you call his voice terrible now. You cannot really think his voice is going to sound like the 1970’s through around 2015. The Man is almost 78 years old! I was at a concert of Daryl’s last year. He was great. I’m going to see him again this Thursday. I expect it will be great too. PS: Daryl’s new album is great too!

It's evident from Daryl's vocal performance how the overpowering absence of John Oates, provided his amazing backing harmony vocals to a once powerful duo! Sad

Even they didn't sound so good as a duo toward the end. Age has caught up with them and their talents have eroded. There's no shame in retiring.

Say it isn't so! Daryl Hall has completely lost (out of touch with, perhaps?) his mojo. This performance-his singing, the band, EVERYTHING-is so bad it is unwatchable. If John Oates were still with him, he'd STILL suck ass. When it comes to Daryl Hall in 2024? I can't go for that! NO CAN DO.
