Titus the Fox - Speedrun (update july 2012!)

Titus The Fox - Speed run
this is a multi-segment speed run.... it's over 6 minutes shorter than the last video
and this time i didnt splitted in 2 videos...
there's still room for improvement in many levels... like i did some bad boss fights this time... but it's a overall way nicer video than the last one...
the per segment (level) time is as follow:

some minor details, on
level 1, i think even using the old trick, i remember i achieved 26 seconds instead of 27 while not recording....
level 2 is looking very nice this time.
level 3 i did some grabbing mistake, and the camera while reaching the boss could be better.
level 4 i have a mistake where the work doesnt get killed and hit me, but i didnt fixed that since i would need to way for the elevator that i need to get later.
level 5 i did some improvement on crate grabbing, and i tried to skip all flies, this time
and altough i did bad with the boss fight, (got hit very soon) and forgot to the crate trick to finish him, right the first time...
level 6, is looking nice, not much to add there, aside it can be faster when jumping into the first bum...
level 7 i also did very well, altough after using the "hit skip" i got hit in a bad luck by the lava ball... and later i missed the jump after the ladder, but i would need to wait there for the laval ball anyway... also i did some good entrance to fight the boss there.
level 8, i think i did very well, rushed fine to get the elevator as fast as possible, didnt messed up the hidden block climbing, and the boss fight i did slight different than usual... i killed only one fly, i had to wait for they to sync to be possible to jump out of the level, but i think that's faster than kill two flies, because of the bad camera that is too slow...
level 9 i did a nice start, but i got hit by the boss while cornered which slowed down, my victory, altough it was nice to watch, there's one video about a trick on that level 9... that
unfortunately i couldnt do in a reliable way for this speedrun, (the jump part before reaching the boss are pain to do) so combining everything requires more luck, and it's not that fast, since with a bit of luck (i.e. the ball not going trough the boss that much, i can do it probaibly faster than using the glitch)
level 10... i did a little bit of a mistake by getting hit by the fly, on the top of the first ladder, but it didnt slowed that much, and it aligned with the flies below the tunnel, as well with the elevator itself, i know that is possible to get the first elevator below, without any wait, and also on the second elevator is possible to jump earlier, but it was too risky, for me to do yet...
level 11... i did a very fine job there, i could be a bit faster while climbing against those flies... but i did the glitches with the knife, and grabbing the ball, very fast, so i'm happy with that... the boss fight, i got hit on purpose to realign his position, but the objective was to hit 3 times instead of 2 each time... but i messed up my position on that slipper floor...
level 12... i delayed a bit to jump on the last rock, which led me to wait a bit more later, with the two guys running on the floor, but doing faster than that is risky to desync the guys on the top, and the fish later.... which i got a bit a lucky by being hit and throw to the right place....
level 13, no comments... i think if there's some improvement there, is that i'm delaying to much, to jump from the ladders, i dunno how fast i can really achieve that... but other than that it's a simple level, i got all shorcut and the 3 guy fight very fast, so i'm satisfied with that...
level 14... i did a different method this time, by jumping to the right place, instead of flying the magic carpet... also i did jumped out of the magic carped earlier, which helped a bit... altough i slightly missed the right spot, and i jumped one extra time, before reaching the end of the level...

I can remember how i got stuck then beat by trying and trying many sections of the game being just 9 or 10 until i got to the end (probably in the span of many months). No wonder this game and many others made us, dark souls players :)

My god... I woke up today and reminded me of a game I used to play 10+ years ago with an epic music. It's name was "(something) the fox"...I only remembered the name began of T...So I searched for Tuty the fox, or Tati or shit like that...And I finally found it!! and the music is 12:25!!! Oh my...this 13:48 gives me goosebumps....

There are more shortcuts that can seriously speed up a walkthrough. If you hold a right+up when level 8 is just starting (8:42 at this video), you will get into the top of wall. Walking right direction almost above the top edge of the screen you will fall later into small room with water and elevator (above the location at 9:19). The same trick is at level 13 (17:48), if you do this, you will skip the entire pipe and quickly walk directly to the end collecting diamonds as a bonus. In addition you might stack all the crates you see at the beginning of level 11 at 14:02 just below the code sorcerer and immediately climb to the clouds, this should also save a lot of time.

Took me long time to even search this game. The first computer game I ever played when I was like 6 or 7. My dad bought pc for work and for some reason this game came with it. We are in S Korea and I don't think game was popular in Korea. It was scary to me with dark themes and so hard to pass any level.

My god! this is the first game I got as a child, and my brother PC was too old to run it ^_^ every time my family would go to some relative with a PC I would take it with me in hope that they would have a better PC.... anyhow I got as far as level 4... maybe 5 once... and I just did a run before I looked to see if there is a youtube video of someone that was able to run the whole game. and it's even worse now... level 3 ^_^ anyhow thank so much - it was great fun to see you play and win, you are amazing! You know in level 13 you can skip it if you jump in the beggining up + right you just walk directly to the end of the level above the pipe.

heheh yeah, while a kid, since i played this everytime i seem the titus logo i was... whoa another titus game!.... but the truth is that the game is "Moktar Adventures: lagaf - la zoubida" that is a french comedian?? and most of the graphics on the game are present on his movie clip "la zoubida" kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2W8dmtsbZJ_gtk, which is... WEIRD!, so when titus went to release the game outside france they needed a new character since lagaf isnt know outside france... and then... they used their maskot!!! and the rest is history!

I see, athough this costs a life, I think it works great for the speedrun! And the most prominent use of this trick is at 15:40, that's why I was so startled that you didn't pick the carpet: I thought there was no way to pass by those yoga instructors unless you've got a multi-use weapon!!!

yes! first time i played it... it was from the floppy and my HDD was 20mb on my 286 (12 mhz)... but it was not EGA/VGA (16 colors) it was CGA 4 colors (purple/cyan/white/black) :P

Hm, nice work, but I believe it should be possible to hold down the button to jump over to the right at the beginning of the Pipe Dream stage to basically bypass everything there. ToMarrakechAndBack's video of that level shows him doing that trick, beating the level in 35 seconds

This game is ... hard! I completed it a couple of times, long time ago. It was a lot of fun. You can still run it today with something like dosbox.

hehe, the fact that there is not invincible frames when you get hit, is indeed frustrating, specially with the flies/bees (but the throwing bottle bums right on the end of the first stage combined with the dogs is madness to start) :) but the playability of the PC version is better than the amiga version (or compared to the original 'moktar') IMO

yeah while i was kid (8yo?) i couldnt pass level 9... but i found that level 8 secret with code to last stage.... so i ended that way it was not until i played it again when i was 16 -17 then i ended liking the game more than ever...

The Amiga version was better, more colourful and most of all, better scrolling. The PC version was based on the Atari ST port, a system that was incapable of doing scrolling unless you did some clever programming.

heheh lagaf is not very much known outside france so it was re-released using the company maskot. (but the gameplay was improved compared to the original a tiny bit as well)

There is another nice improvement in the Amiga version you didn't mention.. In the Amiga version there is proper hardware scrolling of the screen.. not like the DOS version where it just tilts the frame forwards or upwards a bit, which is awkward, although one does get used to it.

Apparently, it's a nightmare to program proper camera scrolling for DOS, which was a mayor highlight of the commander keen series back then.

no, thats correct unless you played the CGA/EGA versions or maybe you did set your monitor/TV saturation to the roof.... the colors are like that because this game is 16 colors only! its has one of the best colors of all 16 color games
