Hello Titus. Many thanks for your work and allowing us to see a little of your thinking process. I think it is important to understand a little of what the artist is thinking throughout the process of the work. I think a great painting is painted with and from the soul. Some paintings we simply look at. And then there are paintings which we are drawn into - we don't simply look at them. We are compelled to look into it - beyond the 2 dimensions. For me this is a hallmark of great art - I am compelled to look into the picture. I see this is much of your work Titus. I love the simplicity yet intricate mark making which you seem to do with first time accuracy. I think you must have practiced for many years at drawing. I enjoy listening to your thoughts as much as seeing the end result your work. Thank you Titus. Colin - England

Oh yea. Listen to the depth of the wood. Plus, it’s really so intermittent. I’ve had them pecking on the oaks in the yard for several years now. They don’t stay long, but they love the oaks. Valley oaks get very big. I have nine oaks that I planted in my yard years ago; four types; three are valley oaks. They are very relaxing and provide cooling shade during the hot summers. Plus, all kinds of critters are lured by them.

As you know, less is more. Less colors do create a harder impact I believe as well. You still did a stunning work, but if you are not completely happy with it, it's better to start over till you are happy with it. Great work Titus, always a pleasure to watch your work on my weekens.

I found your KZbin channel not long ago. I have watched many of you videos. You keep saying that you will not make tutorials. But, my friend, these are tutorials! Tutorials for the artist, not the novice. I did not take aqueous medium in college. I focused on Oils. I have tried to teach myself watercolor painting with books and videos and I struggle. You have taught me more in your videos by listening to what you say, watching you make choices, mistakes, and correcting them than I ever taught myself. Thank you.

I am so impressed by your style. Too me water color paintings often times appear almost chaotic and overwhelming. You say, it comes through you, as if the watercolors would be the ones who guide/control & at the same time it seems to me, you are in total control of the colors. Incredible! Have never seen smthg like that. Great video to watch be inspired from and reflect on. Thank you for sharing! Could you imagine sharing a video about pricing, finding clients etc. too?

I’m always entranced by the details of your technique. There’s so much precision in what you do, and it’s interesting to hear you talking about the emptiness you need in your mind alongside that. I’ve read that the thought process between masters and beginners is closer than any other skill levels, because a master of a craft eventually tries to simplify their actions to impulse and intuition, which is how most beginners approach skills as well.

I admire your dedication to your best art. I thought as you were painting this one that you nailed it. But you said it’s good, but not great & will do it over. I learned a lot from your perspective, I usually get finished my watercolor and think it’s trash. Get discouraged and I don’t remember ever doing a painting twice. So I’m learning about my own perspective and my art. You’re an amazing artist but you are equally a great teacher. Stay well Titus!!

Watching as you do the work without incessant chatter and explanation makes you unique in the video spectrum...and suits most artists who are inately visual. I have learned that for myself the process of watercolor and oil painting inform each other...because one helps the other refine in detail...and loosen stylistically.. you are the only artust U see bouncing between the two mediums. Titus, I think that there is a signature freshness and expressive quality that sings in much of your work. I especially see it in many of your sketches and looser watercolor paintings. When your subject, color palette and expressive line work is more simplified and playful, your voice and message ring clearer. It is more difficult to capture or transfer this spontaneous, expressive quality over to the next generation of work. You are a master of many techniques and skills and are very talented. I just find myself wanting to see more of your signature, unique hand of expression and less contrived design in the finished piece. It is always challenging to deliver work that meets the client's expectations and satisfy your own creative goals. You have my admiration and respect for your discipline and talent.

Love having afternoon coffee with you, Titus. You asked if it's too many colors... maybe it would be a good experiment to put it up somewhere prominent in your house, perhaps with similar lighting as its final destination, and see if, when you pass by it again and again, you still feel that it's too many colors? I find that the artwork I want to co-exist with hour after hour is different than artwork I want to be momentarily inspired by. Just some thoughts. Will be curious to hear your thoughts after a few days with it. All the best.

Some years ago I retired as an engineer and wanted to pursue a few hobbies - building small boats and making traditional furniture and maybe make a little money. I was having fun, then these things I loved so much became another job, too many customers who wanted everything now, and I wasn't having fun anymore. I could imagine that it is hard for an artist like yourself to find a balance between what makes you happy and what is required to make a living. If I could say anything, it would be "don't take on so much all at once such that the stress takes all of the enjoyment out of your art". Burnout is a mean bitch.

My very last look at the painting made me think that there was something a bit 'off'. And my senses told me that something didn't seem to sit quite right regarding the red car. It could just be me, but it seems to distract the viewer. Anyway, you are the maestro, I leave the ultimate magic in your hands. After a restful weekend, upon your return, the painting will let you know what it is that you are asking of it. 👩🦳🖌️
