Tivo Skip Mode is a great feature when it works. I've had numerous occasions when Skip Mode did not work so had to fast forward through the commercials. I am using Tivo Roamaio with 4 tuners, so I can record 4 shows at once. If Skip Mode would work 100% , this would be a great product, but sometimes the ski[p mode was not added to a program that should have Skip Mode.

Getting a Tivo for recording OTA was a great transition tool when we cut the cord in 2011. Been using Tivo with Lifetime service ever since. Don't know how long Tivo service will exist but will hang with them as long as we can. Watching and sharing recorded programs from other Tivo units in the house is a great feature too.

Does the Tivo rely heavily on the network? I had purchased a Tablo Quad w/HDMI thinking that it wouldn't use my WIFI, however during heavy WIFI usage, I noticed that there was heavy buffering. I'm afraid that if I purchase the Tivo that I'll run into the same situation.
@bricknboxer2 жыл бұрын
@@dishmanw Sharing programs between Tivo units is done across wifi. The guide info comes from the internet. Tivo has tried hard to be an "all in one" DVR and streaming unit. They seem to always be behind in the streaming department. Some ppl knock them for this but if you only rely on them for DVR functions they shine. We use Roku or the smart tv to stream content. A four tuner Tivo Roamio for OTA with LIfetime service is an ideal unit to buy just for DVR. It's easily upgraded to larger hard drives, more durable than other newer Tivo units like the Tivo Bolt or Tivo Edge.

I purchased a TiVo Edge from Channel Master last year. Great unit. I actually am using two antennas to get stations from two different markets, and the Tivo gives me the correct guide information for all of the channels I receive. I had been watching for a Tivo for several years to replace my Channel Master DVR+. With the sale and additional $50 off, I bought it. The tuner in this is excellent. Better than the DRV+, Toshiba, Samsung, and LG TVs. I use a rotor on the antenna and since getting the Tivo I've not had to turn the antenna. It's pulling in weak signals from 3 different areas (Pittsburgh, Johnstown & State College) without readjusting the antenna. The KZbin app on this is excellent too. I don't know what they do with the app, but it's a lot faster than the other KZbin apps I use on other streaming devices. Hey Tyler! You did a great job of overall explaining how the TiVo works. I use a TiVo Bolt OTA which isn't really much different. I love the layout of the menus, ease of setting up One Passes for shows, the guide, etc. The Bolt will also upscale to 4K like the Edge even though shows are normally 720p or 1080i. My Bolt OTA has 4 tuners and a 3TB hard drive, and it does cost me $7.53 per month to run it, but I don't mind the storage space, even though I've never exceeded 13% yet. The deal you have on the Edge with the "all-in" is a great deal, but I really need the 4 tuners, but a great value for many! There are many used Bolts on eBay, but you must be careful as there are older models of it that are outdated. The current Bolt OTA also has the "voice remote" which I never use. Mine is set to IR remote mode so I could "teach" my Universal RF10 remote with which I can run everything in my system just by feel. Also worthy to note; the SKIP feature is hit or miss. It gets information from the network to provide "skip" information for the TiVo. The SKIP isn't always available even on Prime Time main network shows, which gripes me some nights. But, you can report the shows missing SKIP or incorrect SKIP information here: survey.confirmit.com/wix/1/p3075425841.aspx Another note on SKIP, is that it can be set to manual or automatic which is nice. I also really like how quick you can turn CC on and off and change SKIP from auto to manual or vice versa just by hitting the "Info" button while watching a show. The apps are pretty limited so I don't use it for that purpose, but instead use a Roku Premiere which has much more up to date apps. available on it. For the most updated apps. with TiVo, they have the TiVo 4K Stream device. But for OTA recording, you just cannot go wrong with the Bolt or the Edge, they're wonderful units!

The tuners in DVRs of every make and model (and I've seen hundreds) are 100% proof positive more sensitive than the tuner in your tv. Point blank... Period. I have signal readings (from a signal meter) to back up this claim. 100s of signal readings... From 8 different tv markets... On any and every antenna, pre amplifier, distribution amplifier of all kinds and shapes... On every brand of tv multiplied by 100 on each brand. Now, with that all said... I highly recommend a DVR for OTA. They are slick. For the most part, and for most people, they work well.... Just like your tv. But have a weak signal, too strong of a signal, a big jump in signal (indicative of obstructions)... And that DVR will underperform a tv every time. Pro tip#18 Install a 2 way splitter. Antenna lead feeds it... 1 output to tv and 1 output to DVR. Make sure you ALSO scan your tv. If you're getting funny results on DVR, change input to TV and see if it handles it better. If it's the same... You have a different problem. In that case, call The Antenna Men.... Or someone else with a signal meter and experience troubleshooting an OTA system. Probably a simple fix or change... But without tools... Good luck pin pointing.

I used the zip code for initial setup and also did an auto scan. The TiVo guide also has options at the bottom right of the guide to filter your favorites (A) or all shows (C). Make sure (C) is selected then you can go to your favorites list in the menu and add only the channels you want to see in the guide. I had to write them all down on a piece of paper so I wouldn't miss any. My guide also showed duplicate channels in the list like 2-1 and 2-1 then 6-1 and 6-1. I put check marks on the first channels listed and skipped the duplicates. Then you can select (A) again to only show the channels you want to see. Here is a link to help you find your missing channels in the guide. That's a problem. The channels you add by scanning don't have program information. Eventually - maybe, sometime - Tivo adds those channels (with program info) but ever since they started using their own program info their information has been inaccurate and lagged behind other guide providers. The only work-around I've found is to check program guides on Zap2It or TitanTV and record shows manually.

By using the ZIP code and auto scan all of my channels including some distant channels that I don't receive were listed in the all channels list. I only have up to channel 66 with the TiVo Edge. On the Roku tv I can access channels up to the 300 and 400’s. I have the same OTA antenna on both tvs. Why can’t I access all these channels on my TiVo Edge OTA device? Any suggestions are much appreciated.

I have been using the Amazon Recast DVR for a year now and for the most part has been working fine with Fire TV Cube. I also have a couple other TV's in the house that all have Firesticks that are seldom used. My problem is the Recast will not always record TV shows from ABC at 10:35pm. It's always been hit and miss. It records local channel ABC about 5% of the time and CBS about 90% of the time. Already been down that long road with tech support at Amazon and Channel Master. The whole system has been thru completely reset and antenna has been aligned but no one has figure out why CBS & ABC skips records. Anyway I'm ready to move forward, maybe buying another Recast box may fix the problem w=but my real question is should I go with the Table or the Tivo system. Will both of them work with my existing fore cube and fire sticks?

The Tivo's remote and channel GUI is (and always has been) much better than DirecTv or dish because it can be customized easier and it is not filled with ad garbage. You forgot to mention that the SSD needs protection from power surges - otherwise you might lose recorded programs.

The guide on the Tivo Edge seems much more complete. Just going through the "learning curve" as to it's operation. One thing though . . . when you're watching a program, and punch in a channel number to jump to, sometimes it jumps to the RF channel, and not the virtual channel. Does anyone have thoughts on this ? My TiVo premiere requires a CableCARD
@JRobert1111113 жыл бұрын
@@iloveclayaiken You won't be able to use any kind of antenna with the "cable" version of any TiVo unit. Even though the antenna input is labeled "Ant/Cable", they are not interchangeable and confuse many people selling used units on eBay listing them as working with both, when they don't. I believe the labeling is from cutting manufacturing costs to use the same cabinet enclosure for OTA and Cable units. But, it will be accurately be reflected in the exact Model Number of your unit. This TiVo Edge Tyler is discussing is indeed the antenna OTA model that you can try rabbit ears on, but regardless, the TiVo won't work any better than the signal it is receiving. And, as you know, Tyler has a wealth of information on various antennas on his channel for you to decide what's best for you. Good luck!

I've had Tivo for more than 10 years. Hands down the best OTA DVR Imho. Those years ago I sprang for the lifetime membership and because there's been no problems with my original unit it's paid for itself many times over. I'm always checking the the portal for deals because I wouldn't mind upgrading to a unit with 4K but to date I haven't pulled the trigger because really I have enough ways to get the 4K content available. Google, Apple, Amazon. 4K OTA isn't a thing yet anyway. I notice you didn't mention any of the politics that made this deal available? I like that part of your channel. What's the difference between the two services? Why would TIVO allow this and if it's some sort of oversight, do you think it will be limited in some way. I know that you get programming data for the guide from TIVO for I think 2 weeks? Is this the same with Channel Master? Is it just the programming guide information that's different? I don't get it? Why do you think this is available at all? Thanks for the content.
