All the times I played SH4 not once did I see two enemy ships collide. That was pure awesome. I did once surface right in the middle of an allied air attack on a Japanese fleet with several flat tops along with big escorts. I dove for a few minutes and came back up to finish off what was left. That was the most fun I ever had with the game, just surfacing to see what was going on and blam! From everything I've read I'm glad I never got SH 5

it's very personal, i love silent hunter 5 more than any of the other versions, but some don't like it at all cuz it's different. But i would say SH4 and SH5 is the best ones!

Listen and learn my good sir. This session was played in genuine non modded SH4. Half the challenge is to lure the destroyers away by sneaking in very silent and deep enough to be under a few thermal layers combined with decoys. When you have gone past the destroyers they indeed have a hard time finding you due to their own engine noises. For as long as I've played SH4 (since 2007) Vessels taken out of working order have never fired at me.

Collisions seem to be a fairly common feature. I find lots of "little dead grey ships" all over the place -- especially in a task force scenario. Seems everyone just keeps on going and not watching where the bejeebers they are going... much like my daily drive to work.

I've seen a battleship ram another battleship after I damaged her, but that destroyer just made my day. The one ship that could hunt down the sub that attacked them... and it was rammed.

The aircraft carrier appears to be a Shokaku class although one of the bow aa 25mm guns is missing but in real life Shokaku herself was sunk by a sub at the battle of the Philippine sea by uss cavalla

That was a destroyer, not a battlecruiser. A battlecruiser might have been what rammed it, but you didn't bother to sink that.

everything that happened in game is just game play, the poor destroyer getting rammed was a pure coincidence. To get it movie like required some editing with movie editing software though.

Sir, your sub has an awesome paintjob. I would also like you to teach me how to position that well. In quick missions I find that my starting location and my actions get me missing my targets as they go off at 20 knots or getting ganked by the whole destroyer screen. Also, do you use manual targeting in this? I saw those little coloured triangles there on the periscope.

I love them both. SH5 got fantastic detail inside the sub and a rather fun campaign too. BUT it lacks a lot or realism. such as the way ships sinks and other physical effects. SH4 is rather cheap nowadays. So get them both :)

+Clarence Snyder Pretty steep, but there are tutorials and helpfull forum (SubSim). So you should be ably to learn without much difficulty. Also depends on how realistic you want it and if you are running mods.

This video was made with SH4 which I think, and many other people included, is a far superior game. The detail is fun and all, but graphics is not the game. I know a few people who think that SH5 was a failure and the worst of the series. And now, ahem, comes SH Online, which goes to how how far Ubisoft has fallen from SH2 and 3. Buying SH4 is my personal opinion.
