It has been proven that the Lusitania's cargo did not explode. She was carrying munitions, but none of them were explosive enough to sink a large ship. It is more likely that it was a steam generator explosion or, less likely, a coal dust explosion.

To all who think the ship represented here is Britannic....no. It is not. Britannic was a white hospital ship with great big red crosses on the side. Secondly, just as a side note: the ammunition detonation theory is not the likely culprit for the sinking. Evidence has shown that the one torpedo ignited a coal bunker explosion, causing the dull roaring thunder (not the "pops" of a torpedo going off) reported by U19. Coal dust is EXTREMELY flammable and her bunkers would have been nearly empty, having crossed the Atlantic. With the entire starboard side opened to the sea, the ship would have heeled over immediately to the open side, settled in and sank like a stone, which is precisely what happened.
