Such a fun day! Weather was perfect. Glad I was there to see your trophy fish and the process to log one for Florida Trophy site. The size of that head and mouth in person was unbelievable. Just like seeing mountains in person...pictures never do it justice! Thanks!

Thanks for the help with weight pictures. That's always a chore when trying to do it alone! She was approved at 9lb 3oz.... the first weight we got on camera.

Way to go, when you keep trying it pays off eventually.

That's exactly correct. The more time one spends on the water, the higher the odds are that a big fish will hit!

@OldLadyAngler With the size of the head I thought for sure a 120lbs or so. They are skinner down there.
@OldLadyAnglerКүн бұрын
I agree. That head was enormous. Give her a month and she'll be prespawn and even bigger. Awesome fish.

Thanks so much. I usually throw the Big EZ baits, but I scaled down so that I could match the size of that lure I lost. The EZ Swimmer was perfect.

That was awesome catch. What a monster. I love when my rod bends. Cant wait to catch my monster. I wouldn’t knw what to do. Lol
@OldLadyAnglerКүн бұрын
Thanks so much. Yeah.... lots of rod flex there. When you catch your monster.... just remain calm and wear her out. This fish did not have a whole lot of fight. She gave in pretty quickly. The big ones are strong, but they tucker out fast.

New to your channel, congrats on that beast if a fish! I am fishing power plant lakes up here in Indiana/Illinois area. Fished in 17 degrees and snow a couple weeks ago. That video is crazy as we caught 36!

Welcome! Thanks for watching and for the congrats! That's pretty cold up there for fishing. I'm from Central Illinois, so I know the winters up there! Tight Lines.

@ Newton power plant lake is where I go. I made to Bassmaster team championship last December on the Harris Chain. Only time I have fished Florida. We made a check and I will never forget idling through the Dora Canal. Everything looks fishy down there.

Thanks Fred. You know that feeling when you set the hook into a monster. It's just solid as a cinder block! She was a lot of fun!! Merry Christmas!
@FishermanFred2023Күн бұрын
awesome! My largest is just under 7.1. (7.08 on the scale) funny enough the most sturdy feeling one on the hookset was a 5 pounder. I actually thought I had a log for a second 😂. Couldn’t imagine a 9+!!!

I would use a wire leader when throwing big swimbaits i was reading about they can break off its better so you dont lose your expensive baits i did use a wire leader before so what i use now is musky Fluorocarbon leader 100 pound i always thought the fish can see wire leader but i am not sure i make my own Fluorocarbon musky leader i think they are to expensive to buy them in stores you could definitely use a snap
@jamescooper34221 сағат бұрын
and using a snap its easy to take off a lure and put on a lure
@OldLadyAngler17 сағат бұрын
I don't like wire for Bass. I definitely use it for toothy fish though. Plus if I'm chucking that lure and it bird nests.... if the fluoro doesn't break, the braid will. I'm only using 40 lb braid on the M/H casting rig (for big swimbaits) and on the smaller rig, I use 20# braid & leader. It was actually my snap that broke. Luckily it doesn't happen often. the last time I had a bird nest and snapped my line was 2 years ago.... in that same lake! weird. lol. So I put a bigger snap on that line and that's what I caught the big fish on. I use a snap on two of my baitcasters so that I can change lures quickly. I tie my frog directly to 50# braid on my heavy baitcaster.
