Hi T. Your Musky rig should certainly do the job. It looks like is casts great. When you catch a big Pike or Musky you'll need that 65 lb braid. Good luck with it. Take care, Mickey

Thanks Mickey. It will definitely be a lot different than fishing with typical Bass tackle!

I use a Tranx for big swimbaits, A-Rigs, and Musky Baits....that reel really is a beast when it comes to big baits or needing some real cranking power. You got a winner IMO with that reel.

Hey Bob! Yeah they sprayed the lake. I noticed it when I was last there last month. (got skunked that day). The poison must have dissipated enough by now. I'm looking forward to Maine and some Musky fishing. Or at least big pike fishing. Are you recovering from surgery?

You're set up perfect for them. One thing I might Add .Unless you're musky fishing in a lake or area that is loaded with them, go for pike instead. Way way easier to catch , theyll hit most snything.. they get almost as big. Almost. You'll cast your arm off for musky. Better fish to chase out there imho
@OldLadyAngler8 ай бұрын
Thanks! Yes.... I also fish for Pike when I'm in Maine. The Musky is just one of those bucket list fish. I'll get one eventually, but I'll keep after the Pike too! They're a lot of fun! Thanks for watching.

SWEET! I missed the unboxing video yesterday was gone all day so I had no idea about the new giant reel! Going to watch it now. Casts a country mile and looks smooth as butter doing so! Have you ever caught a musky before? Pretty sure I have watched all your videos and don't remember one.
@OldLadyAngler Жыл бұрын
Can't wait to use it on the toothy critters. I've only fished for Musky one time and that was last year in Maine, up near the Canadian border. Zero hits but call smallmouth.

Man that would wear me out all day if I threw that all day for Muskie. I am a Penn guy and I use my 400 Fathom for jigging Snapper, and Bull Reds. Tight lines love your shows “Old School for life”
@OldLadyAngler Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! I agree. If I had to throw a 3+ oz lure all day, I would be hurting. I figure I can throw between 1/2 oz up to 3 oz and switch around frequently. I have Penn gear that I bought when I first started fishing... used it in the saltwater.

Hi, Tracy!! Glad to see you back at it. I noticed you have been catching bowfin lately. Is there a certain time e of year that they bite more often than usual? Is there a bait that they prefer more than others?
@OldLadyAngler Жыл бұрын
Maybe the bowfin bite is more determined by which lake I'm fishing. This lake has a lot of them. They'll eat whatever you put in front of them.
@robertringier1232 Жыл бұрын
I was taught that when casting heavy iron in salt water, turn the reel upside down when finishing the cast. That way the looping line tends to fall away from the spinning spool. It really helps when you're throwing 10 oz lures and they can set some really tight and mean backlashes, Some of the best advice I've gotten.
@OldLadyAngler Жыл бұрын
That makes perfect sense. I won't be throwing anything bigger than my whopper plopper 190. I can't imagine throwing a 10 oz lure!!!

When I was a kid fishing in the St. Lawrence (Thousand Islands) back in the 60s my dad and I fished for pike ALL DAY LONG, LITERALLY. The lure of preference for me? The spoon. Striped, polka dot, solid in all color varieties caught big monster pike. I don't think much has changed in 50, 60 years. I believe they will still get hit!

@@OldLadyAngler it's a shame that Pike and muskie have fallen off the radar. They were the catch of choice back in the 60s. No more! Now they're more of a nuisance than a celebration to today's anglers. Change is the one certainty in life. Even with fishing .

Yes be careful not to lose that side plate,I’ve only lost one,not on the Tranx it was a Curado and I contacted Shimano and they sent me another for free❤️and I throw 65lb all the time with a leader and in my opinion the heavy braid you get 80-90% less backlashes that’s why ALL of my rods are braid to leader and one other thing Tracy the 190 Whooper Plooper the Smallmouth of all sizes are going to smash that , I promise you when they see it they want to kill it even 1 lb Bass they don’t care,sorry for the long story 🤣😂❤️

Those muskies are tough. Just out of curiosity.. I know fishing gear is like cars.. people like one brand over the other. Just curious if u have ever tried other reel brands. I tried Shimsno and never Hines liked shimano.. I use Daiwa reels and just got one from direct from Japan! When are u off to Maine?
@OldLadyAngler Жыл бұрын
I have owned a few other reels.... Garcia, Penn, Johnny Morris. I've had great experience with Shimano. Have never owned a Daiwa reel but have a Zillion rod that I really like. Lots of the PRO anglers use Daiwa. I leave FL at the end of August but I have a few weeks before I arrive in Maine. So, mid September.
