Been doing this for years.I only use cleaning vinegar and Damon Red Coat. Never had a comeback for over36 years. The majority of my jobs were rust problems.I always solider pin holes with a huge solider iron.

Great video! Fun fact if you live in San Antonio…. I couldn’t find redkote at any autozone and figured I would have to order it. O-Reillys carry’s that shit in stock!! I need to redo my tank because I didn’t pay as much attention to cleaning the inside when doing it. I had red fuel for like 4 days😂. Anyway, I’ll knock it out soon and get the ride back on the road. Thanks TJ!

Great video! I recently discovered your channel. Honestly I had no idea that people were chopping Honda 600s. Using your products I can see how this could be a really fun project! I have a Buell Blast Bobber project that I have had for a couple of years. There is no knowledge base for them. I’ve considered giving up several times but I think if I could finish it that, a VLX chopper would be next.

When cleaning and Coating new Aftermarket Harley 5 gallon split tanks. I would clean each half with acetone, drain then coat as you shown in video then proceed to the other half of the tanks? How much acetone and Red Coat should i use in each half? Thank You.

@@TJBRUTALCUSTOMS True indeed. And thanks, Actually going with a '05 vtx 1300, same price running and with half the miles. I'm going to do my best to chop it and get rid of the plastic on it. The tank seems a bit odd, 1st thing I want is a peanut, not too common with the vtx.. Great content.. 👍

This is a very basic question so I apologize for the ignorance, when I do this, what is stopping my fuel valve from clogging with red koat? Do I just stick something through the fitting afterwards?

After the red coat dries good you can put the tank in the sun on hot shiny days and or bake it in the oven at 160-170f for a couple hours

I don’t even want to think about baking it man. My dad painted it for me and baked it in an industrial oven and it charred the entire red kote right off in ashes😢 I’m finally done cleaning it after 2 weeks of tossing and shaking the fuck outta the tank 😅

I ask because I bought a 1gal steel gas can and it’s leaking at the seams, but hoped to keep the outside in its original condition, so have been looking into interior seal options
