That was exactly what I have been searching for someone to demo. I bought a cheap keyboard with some limited variety of sounds but the keys are weighted nicely and I purchased it because it had MIDI. The upshot was to hook it up to the computer and play it through LMMS so that I can expand the sound sample range exponentially. I just wasn't really clear on how to proceed. Now I know. I'm using a usb A to usb B cable to connect my piano to my pc. However, I can't seem to find the device. I hear a chime when I plug and unplug the connector but still can't find it. Any suggestions?

Hello TJ. I am using a Roland E-X10 keyboard as my MIDI input into LMMS on my Windows 11 PC. When I play a note on the E-X10 there is a delay before the LMMS plays it which makes recording with a metronome a challenge. Also, I noticed that the piano instrument on LMMS plays a minor third different to the notes I play on the E-X10. Any thoughts please?

I use a very old Roland JV 50 synthesizer with a Roland USB 2 MIDI interface with LMMS and it works pretty well too. I would like to recommend a video that shows how you create a song in LMMS and then apply a voice track to it. Would you finish the song in LMMS, export a wave file and import it in Audacity and then record the voice to it or would you prefer the other way round to apply a voice track in LMMS? And of course this is a dirty trick to figure out how good you are in singing ...

First of all : Great video! Thank you for explaining so well how the software works. However, I do have a question. Does the software take into account when I press a pedal that I have previously connected to my MIDI keyboard?

Good question. I think it depends on your midi keyboard, but yes, this data will also be sent to LMMS. Sometimes you will need to tell LMMS what to do with this pedal action. For example, should the pedal be 'sustain' or should it be a bass drum. Even is the keyboard interprets it as sustain, LMMS may still need to be told what to do with it.

You need a powerful computer to do this, otherwise you will run into buffer under-runs. Seems to be more common in Linux for some reason.
