I watched a whole documentary on his rig and gear..and listening to him is hilarious.. he talks like he knows nothing about bass... or music. LOL. Prodded endlessly for detail. I can still remember this song going through my head when I bought my first yacht (1995) and we were on a broad reach. We were flying, my girlfriend's hair was all over the place and to be honest I had no control over the boat. Fast forward to 2004, different girlfriend, different yacht, same phenomenon. Shorter hair though. The rhythm follows what it's like on a yacht. Frenetic, then a moment when you can just dig it. Thank you for taking me 25/16 years back in time, and as always, I love the way you play.

This is normally the last song they played live (May still be playing, haven't seen em in years). Can you imagine playing an hour and a 1/2 THEN having to play more 'ghost' notes in one song than you played real notes in every song up till then. I wish you and KZbin had been around in the 80's when I thought learning to play this stuff was impossible. A guy came over in the late 80's and showed me Red Barchetta one day and I was AMAZED I COULD PLAY IT. If you had been around I would be 1000x the bassist I am.

That fill at 4:00 🙂 excellent job. I'm learning this one (those ghost notes 🙄). Your videos really help me with technique, finger placement and syncopation. Thanks for posting 👍

Fantastic cover and a song I aspire to be able to play one day. John Taylor’s bass work is just awesome. As you said, too often under rated.

When I finished viewing this for the first time, I realized I'd missed the fill you were tutoring. Hearing it again (it's at 4:00, for those like me) and watching your reaction afterwards, I could see just how proud you are for nailing it. Proud you should be. Fantastic work!

damn those ghostnotes, i love them so much. you are hitting every single one of them so precisely. someone pointed out the fill at @4:00 is mindblowing and i agree. but can we please also talk about @3:16 and the nasty slides, f.e. @1:18 and emphasized @5:03? all of them caught me somewhat off-guard but they also felt so right a moment later. creating this little suprise moment followed by instant satisfaction, to me means that you added just the right amount of flavour to this while not overplaying. and that, folks, shows the real greatness of a bass player. from all your covers, i like this the most. you just nailed everything. thanks for all the great content.

Thanks. For some reason, ghost notes came pretty naturally to me. I used to practice on my own A LOT and I'd use ghost notes just to keep time with myself and they became a regular part of my playing. The hard part came when I was asked not to play them, like during recordings. Actually, I looked at the slides you mentioned and I think that they were just the result of trying to get back up to the E (on the A string) and dragging my pinky along the way.

@@TJH3113 yeah, most of the ghostnotes feeling so natural is why this song is so much fun to play imo. but i'm still somewhat struggling with the ones on the g-string and the one before the B in the Refrain. also my stamina in the right hand needs to get a little better. interesting you dind't even think about the slides. i was actually being sure that those were intended. nonetheless, i just love them.
