CTE can result in many different symptoms including short term memory loss, loss of motor functions, extreme aggression/depression and early on set dementia.

From what we know currently it seems that the brain can heal for the most part from short term mild to moderate brain damage, but even mild damage repeated over time without time to heal can have lasting effects. My theory about why some fighters have some tough fights but aren’t punchy and others are punchy but haven’t had the craziest slug fests is that many fighters are in wars in the gym all the time. And head gear doesn’t appear to make a huge difference from research done so far. It stops cuts and tissue damage, but the impact force is not lessened much. So it seems like the brain damage mitigation is just something that requires resting and being smart about sparring especially. Not something that you can just tough out or train through which is probably why so many fighters have it to some degree, it’s very hard to stop doing the thing your life revolves around for a couple of months at a time.

And as hard as strikes are I’m not sure if it’s as concussive as people running head on. And they do it quite often. I guess fighters do too but they don’t have a season so it’s sort of up to them somewhat. Not that strikes aren’t like a huge impact but them big boys running into each other is just soooo much energy. Even if not the brain I bet almost all of them have joint problems and etc. not hating and they can do whatever they please, i just cringe because I have a few small injuries and they’re plenty irritating.

But you can also see it this way too: the shorter boxer outboxing the longer bigger boxer. When put it that way, it kinda sounds strange. Because when you’re the shorter fighter, you’re usually told to cut the ring off and get on the inside, whilst the bigger boxer is told to pump the jab and stay on the outside. Long story short: his hands especially but mostly his entire body from training broke down on him toward his mid to late 20s. Because of multiple hand injuries and the fact that he wasn’t necessarily the biggest fighter being a NATURAL welterweight. Even devin Haney walks around bigger than Floyd at 160. But also the fact that he was getting older and wanted to take less damage.

@newagain9964 it was actually more dangerous for Floyd to fight at the lighter weight classes because the competition was more skilled and they could KO you more often back then. Fighting at the heavier weight classes gave Floyd more time to adjust in the ring and box more. He was already naturally faster because he was smaller than the average fighters in those higher weight classes. Usually it's the other way around for fighters. Cut a lot of weight to gain a sizeable advantage and only move up in weight if you've dominated a weight class, had no success in that weight class, or just physically can't make that weight for competition. Simply put... If I don't have to get a KO to win then I'll just keep boxing and preserve my body in the long run.

Joe Calzaghe was another boxer who's career is like Floyd's. Retired undefeated but had a ton of knockouts early on only to have most of his later fights go to decision. Like Floyd he also messed his hands up hitting people too hard early on on his career. Just goes to show hitting really hard isn't always the best option

I know you’ve touched on this a bit in other videos, but boxing used to be the biggest sport in America if not the world. There were multiple household names across multiple weight divisions, and especially heavyweight, and you just don’t see that anymore. MMA has more household names now than boxing, and it’s taking over the PPV crown as well. So what happened? And how do you fix it? Is it possible for boxing to have the same stranglehold it used to, and if so, how do we make it happen? Boxing has been declining since the 90’s, so if you made a video about why, and how to revive it, I’d appreciate it. It’s just as talent rich, competitive, and exciting as ever, but for whatever reason it’s just not as big. Whether that’s perception, the promoters, the confusing politics of it all, the fighters not being interesting enough, or whatever it may be. I think it would be a great video and do very well.

The thing is, even Pretty Boy wasn’t a one punch KO artist. He was a death by a thousand cuts type of KO artist. Though he threw more punches back then, he didn’t have pac or DLH level punch output but he didn’t need it because he’d seldomly miss a meaningful blow. Accuracy kills and he was deadly accurate.

The real answer is short and simple. His dad went to prison and uncle roger took over as trainer. Sr was an offensive minded trainer while uncle roger was more of a defensive guru. Also fighting bigger guys made it harder to have the same knockout ratio.

His hands became more fragile as his career progressed so he could never really let them go. I also think his mobility declined rapidly so he couldn't really "dance" as much in the ring and give a sustained attack by hitting his opponent from different angles leading to a KO . After the Hatton fight, Floyd's foot work became more laboured. I even remember watching All Access and Floyd was doing some road work, and you could see he wasn't running fluidly. You could tell that he had reached that stage where your legs really seem heavy due to aging. It's a natural process but I believe Floyd changed his style to adjust. He stood in front of his opponent more, conserved his energy more and just boxed more strategically.

I am a hard-core boxing (on the verge of historian) fan. Ike Williams and tito trinidad being my favourite fighters. Good video. Yeah Floyd Marquez & Pacquiao were smaller guys fighting at welter. Floyd still had power but as you said his hands made him become more accurate more defensive more economical. He had to stretch out his career to get that 50-0. Now if you press Floyd he will step it up and get you out of there but in actual fights he tends to want to outbox the opponent and outsmart them than KO them. In sparring though Floyd is a different animal to fight night. He slept a few guys well with blistering combinations and accumulation of punishment.
