That can be rotated without extending the waist but by flipping the turret to its side. The extension probably has something to do with tidal wave later.

18:00 He actually DOES have a slider joint. Granted, it's not like the original toy. Just pull him apart from the upper torso and the legs and there it is, below his ab section. So it is actually there. I didn't think you could accomplish his militia mode without having to use it, though. On another note, I tried to fan-mode Energon Tidal Wave (since he's the only one I still have of the character) onto him, and he absolutely doesn't fit. But it did give credence to the points you make, such as the fact you'd have 1/3 of a leader class toy (maybe) on each arm. Which would limit his range of motion heavily and most likely cause him to fall over. As for the back section, they'd probably utilize the 5mm port on the back instead of the sliding section due to how it's below his abs and not above it. So I kind of lost hope of them making a Tidal Wave that'll combine with him, but who knows? They might surprise us. Although I'm still hoping they give us a Jetfire for Optimus to combine with.

Given the engineering on the Legacy Armada Megs and Optimus, I'd be surprised if we don't get Jetfire, Overload, and Tidalwave.

I'm just disappointed Tidal Wave's gonna probably be a leader class, and have a lot of comprimises to fit in that class. I don't consider that combination good enough to really warrant comprimising on Tidal Wave's size class just to make it fit.

If they're still able to pull off his other gimmicks like splitting into 3 solid vehicles and being a towering robot compared to this Megs and Armada Op, I'm fine with him being Commander class.

@@Trebleshot Commander is a good size class for him. Armada Optimus is shorter than Menasor, but without the other stunticons added to the limbs, Menasor is lankier. Tidal Wave has a very tall and lanky design. I really hope they keep Ramjet, too. Whatever Legacy year 3's Commander is, I really hope it's not another Tractor Trailer. Rodimus, Motormaster, Armada Prime, and the SS Ultra Magnus are all tractor trailers, we need a break from them.

@@MrMajorasmask101 Size wise Armada Jetfire would be good if he's a fairly large leader, like SS Sludge, but engineering is where it gets complicated... He needs to look good in all three modes, but most importanly have some articulation in pants mode, and that will be tricky. I wouldn't be adverse to a smaller commander class with Minicons, not just Cometor, but if they could do the Requiem Blaster trio. Overload is probably easier, his transformation is very simple, and he didn't have a huge ammount of deco. As long as they keep the larger body being a exosuit of sorts for the minicon. I think you could do him at Leader.

I hope they also include an extended barrel. Not just because he needs a longer one, but because I am currently losing my mind trying to find it because it popped off and fell somewhere under the bed the day after I got it because they didn't want to just make it one solid piece.

The purple pads on his shoulders rest lightly on the orange-painted bits where his shoulders meet his chest (in tank mode). You're supposed to lift those up before moving the black sections or the rest of his arms down. Not only will it keep you from rubbing the paint off, but it's far easier to maneuver his arms into place in either direction. He also does totally have the torso slide joint for potential combination.

I feel pretty confident in they are still planning a Tidal Wave that can combine as when Megatron was revealed they hinted at it. Which most likely means they are planning on it at least. I think Tidal Wave might be using the pegs on the back of his shoulders

@@MattLipinski Yeah, the thing is, that feature is not used at all on him in transformation or his turret in robot mode ability. The only reason for it to exist on this new mold would be to accommodate Tidal Wave merging.

This is such a nice leader figure to grab but I find it really odd there’s not a minicon port on this guy when the original had like 20, like hotshot has one starscream doesn’t and megatron doesn’t is just odd who gets one. A galvatron repaint is almost guaranteed but I think there was a black/red/teal Black Zarak repaint that was maybe a botcon thing but that repaint would also be cool to see

Hasbro's in on the smaller figures having the 5mm ports so they can be hand held. And honestly, I kinda feel it'd be better to not do that for stuff like minicons and Micromasters, as that peg and it's folding out are a bit of an issue on smaller figures.

I checked Baltmatrix's review of Legacy Laser Prime, and the shoulder joints themselves are just normal universal joints, with a swivel for forward and backward motion and the hinge for outward. Megs simply has it reversed, so it's kinda like the weird balljointed shoulders on WFC Kingdom Rattrap. Either way, it's not very good because it feels unnatural.

They could have just not included the panel covering his face cause it's facing DOWNWARD. You're not going to see his face anyway. Even on the original toy I always thought that panel was completely useless since it's covering something you're not going to see anyway. I'd actually rather have the head retract into the body instead of just having a panel cover it. Cause it is really obvious that's just his head. Also I think you're wrong about Tidal Wave. There is a port on the back of the figure and a port on each arm where a new Tidal Wave could attach to. It clearly won't work the same way as the original version but they did clearly engineer connection points for it. Same as how Armada Optimus Prime also clearly has ports specifically for Jetfire. Mainly the removable Autobot insignia revealing a port where the Jetfire chest plate would attach on the original. Granted you're correct that he probably wouldn't be able to lift his arms with Tidal Wave attached but just because you want him to have stronger arm joints doesn't mean Hasbro is going to engineer it that way. Honestly even if he had ratcheted joints in the arms I still don't think he'd be able to lift his arms with Tidal Wave attached cause the original figure couldn't either and I don't think there is any possible way to make this figure with working arms in combined mode. It is just a naturally awkward combined mode. The only possible way I could see it working is if they made Tidal Wave SMALLER than Megatron cause in the show he's actually not that big on Megatron but it would make him super small in every other mode if they made him in scale for combined mode. Personally I don't really care about scale cause I realize mass shifting is a thing in fiction that makes scaling certain characters impossible.

i think the budgetary excuse is a load of crap. weve heard countless times of corporate interference in the design phase which leads me to believe they just dont give a damn and a half because all corporate truly cares about is making the green and keeping things as samey as they have been for awhile now. i could be wrong, but its gonna take either word from the designers themselves or some damned solid evidence to change my mind.

Honestly, I always found the Tidal Wave Combination not fun. I had both as a kid, and loves both toys and played with them til they were loose messes, but I rarely did the combined form cuz it just wasn't fun

The fact the shoulder pilons are fixed in place just ruins it for me. The same way it ruined Laser Prime and RIB Scourge. That's just now the profile of the original figure, it makes them seem so much thinner somehow.
