Dave, another great way to start off my Friday. Thank you! One observation. When you did the contrast adjustment to the background depth map, it also affected the foreground contrast. The background depth map does not completely drop off in the foreground. Going forward, I will make sure I watch this as it could affect the original foreground. In certain instances, I might want to make my BG adjustments and then give it a black mask. From here, I can paint in white with various opacities to bring it back in. I think. Anyway, awesome edit and thanks again!

Good one - especially liked your use of Depth Maps.You have not used these very much recently and I almost forgot how useful they are for landscape photos.

Dave: Thanks for the process to create an outstanding image. If possible could you start out with explaining on the image what you see as your end result. How you decide before starting what you want your adjustment will be.

Note that for the Depth Map to work (at the beginning of the video), you need to download (and/or update) PS Neural Filter: Depth Blur

Got some new small gems out of this one Dave. I have been using the depth map technique quite extensively these last few weeks. IT HAS BEEN A GAME CHANGER!!!!

Thanks a lot for working on this photo, Dave. This is from the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in southwest Oklahoma. I love the magic mixer and the dodge with color technique.

Thanks Dave. I like the alternatives you give to edits which will give a similar result to other techniques. With this knowledge it gives us more control. I believe you have used the dodge with colour before with a similar scene with similar colours to the rocks. Also the clarity in ACR technique using the depth of field mask made me think of using Soft Pop with a depth of field mask. So many alternative editing techniques using TK9. Im so glad I have Tony Kuyper's plugin. It has made editing so enjoyable and rewarding artistically.

Hello Dave, thank you for yet another TK Friday demo. For me, the learning aspect was color dodge. I've been using depth map for a while now and I like the results. Cheers!

Dave, I really enjoy all of your TK Friday videos. I have one suggestion/request. In this video you did a great job explaining, for example, why you did the burning and dodging - i.e. what you were trying to achieve. However, at the beginning of each of your TK Friday videos, when you do the contrast and color grading adjustments, you don't explain your thought process in arriving at the adjustment level. Instead, you simply move the slider to the adjustment level you previously determined before recording the video. But we don't learn how to make those decisions for ourselves because you skip over that thought process. What went into your decision to select that level of adjustment? I know it is probably "I just know it when I see it" type of test, but I feel I would benefit from a short discussion of your thinking - i.e. why not more or less? - why do you skip color grading sometimes but not others? Is there an overall plan for this photo? Why is it that sometimes when I try to brighten highlights by moving the slider to the right, the image seems to darken? Thanks, and I hope to learn more about your thought process in future videos. I'll certainly be watching them.

Thank Dave and yet another great video during which you add yet more subtle techniques. One question. Is there any value in adding a Mid Three Luminosity Mask to a depth mask? I notice that you did that with the sky.
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly 2 ай бұрын
Thanks. I have experimented with intersecting a Mids 3 with the depth map but I ended up liking the results with just using the depth map.

@@geoffreykingston4866 If it works I prefer it. Sometimes Photoshop doesn't make a good depth map and then I resort to the Mid 3 method.

Thanks for this video. In the past, You always used a midtones3 mask to intersect with foreground and sky. Do You no longer do that ? and why not ?

I still use the Mid Tones 3 technique. This is a new technique I like to use for landscape images when I want to bring out the Depth in the image.
