The old friend I've have was GI surplus by Camilus. Not the one I used in the service, but identical. We called them "The P-38" 6o years ago. That rough edge was intentional, because it would cut, (saw?) through semi-hard insulation better. A classic design that served me over 50 years.

Love the channel. I'm a electrician, and I use a knife like that. I keep the cutting edge of the screwdriver blade dull because I use it to ream conduit. Just so it'll knock the burs off from cutting pipe. Thought you might like that tidbit. Thanks.

I have an antique Camillus tl-29 and after I sent it to someone for some polishing and minor repairs, I gave it to my step-dad who is an electrician and he loves it

I have no clue about these knives but I do know that I have an old original one like that one and I love the old patina and used look about it. Whoever owned it definitely loved mine it's way cool, I'm not huge into pocket knives but these old tools are really neat and the craftsmanship is solid this thing weighs a ton LOL.

I have two vintage Schrade. 1 you can partially see the TL embossed on the handle. Tang stamp puts it WW2. Great knife with tool grade steel.

The TL-29 is a bit older than WWII. As a matter of fact, the name is the military supply catalogue nomenclature; it stands for tool, lineman’s, model of 1929.

I have a TL-29 based Camco knife. Vintage knife handed down from my dad, and I'm 64. Camco and USA stamped on one side; 229 on the other. Brass liner lock for the secondary blade. Did a little research and one source said Camco was a cheaper but still decent quality division of Camillus started in 1948.

o: I AM RELATED TO MATHIAS KLEIN (Yes as in the founder of Klein Tools) I have actually been to the building while I was visiting my grandparents. And I had found out that he was one of my grandfathers (The really great ones) I had found out in my parents scrapbook. And there was also a tiny bit of photos from his life in that book!

The Klein knife is a generic cheaper brand of the original electrical MKlein knife. The reason that is considered electrical knife is because MKlein originally is a electrical equipment manufacturing company letters marked on the what indicates a year it was made MKlein has been in business since 1857

I have 2 of these tang stamped "O"(1976). I removed the bail on one and I EDC it from time to time. I like my early 80's Camillus electrician's knife(TL-29) a bit better though. Great vid.

Fred, great video. I am nuts about knives. I did some comparison in photos of the Klein TL 29. It is identical to the modern Kutmaster TL 29. Same plastic wood grain handle, same pin placement, and blade shape. I believe they are manufactured for Klein by Kutmaster. Just trying to be helpful.

the object of your nostalgia it`s a cheap tool more suited to keep in a kitchen drawer but I agree to one thing, the made in china ones are crap. the Swiss made tool is elegant, excellent quality at reasonable price but my repair philosophy is to not use a multitask tool, it can do many things but all on a mediocre level
