As a massage therapist, I once had a client who was addicted to RUNNING. Their tendons all felt like they were ready to snap, and they had torn multiple muscles in their legs multiple times, but they STILL refused to even take a break for a day, let alone the weeks it would take for their legs to recover. It was really sad seeing someone so blinded by their addiction that they don't see the connection between their extreme pain, and their addiction.

@@RecklessInspirer as someone else pointed out, running, and especially running to a point of exhaustion, can give quite a rush, and can cause an addition just like many other addictions, if if you get a sense of pleasure from it, it can become addictive if you rely on it too much. The guy wasn't skinny/underweight. They were very fit looking, but just taking their running to an extreme that was causing harm to their body.

Ahh, wait. I'm someone who is VERY addicted to running and jumping around, to the point where I do it day and night, every day. I'll do it throughout the day and till night, and I'll get so absorbed in it that I don't even realize it's already the next day. It's how I start my day (after my basic hygiene stuff). I've already started to have foot pains and other pains, but what I really wanted to know was what kind of severe issues I could get from continuing to do that so relentlessly.

@@_KieRa repetitive strain injuries would be the first thing you'd notice. The main thing is that you take note if it hurts, and most importantly, if you do injure yourself, give it time to heal. A typical strain injury can take anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks depending on how bad it is. If you keep pushing on even with a strain injury (this would get quite painful over time) you could potentially cause even more harm, and begin to strain other muscles surrounding the injured area... So yeah the main thing is that you do the common sense thing and let it rest of you hurt yourself. The guy I treated was clearly injured and in a lot of pain, but still refused to let it rest even for a day. To help prevent injuries when you are exercising so much, stretches prior to workout sessions are imperative. Professional Althetes always take time to do a full range of stretches before their workout. This is especially true for running.

In my late teens/early 20s I had a classic car and some parts were quite hard to find so I'd buy and break cars down. Sometimes they had fuel in them so I'd siphon that out before doing anything and inevitably you'd end up swallowing mouthfuls by accident. The thing I can't get around is how she describes the "flavour" which is less a flavour and more of a horrendous mouth feel. It feels like your whole mouth is shriveling up and you'd do anything to get it out of your mouth.

Addiction and eating disorders are not mutually exclusive diagnoses. In fact, I’d say that most EDs are a subset of addiction. Taking that many laxatives will cause a physical dependency, she’ll need them just to be able to go to the bathroom so in that sense, she’s addicted to laxatives and has an ED.

I wish I could do this, you must be so strong. I've been bullied my whole life by friends family and strangers because I am shockingly pale. I let myself burn so I have some colour, I hide behind fake tan and orange makeup and no one ever sees me with my natural ghostly white face. I've not had my legs out for 20 years. I wish I could love and accept myself but I just cry when I look in the mirror.

Perhaps dye your hair a fun color to give yourself a self-esteem boost and take some focus off your insecurity. Anyway, I hope you can find happiness in your own skin and maybe one day hit the beach in a bikini. But definitely wear some sunblock cuz sunburns suuuuck. :)

She is very pretty and she has a good personality, and it's sad that her high school experience affected her so badly. Hopefully with the support of her family, her church and her friends, she has since reached a point where she can be at peace with herself. A lot of skin bleaches are banned in North America because they contain heavy metals and are highly carcinogenic. There's prescription-grade skin lightening, but it's extremely expensive and it isn't going to address the deeper issues that come with low self-esteem. Her little brother is right - what's wrong with being dark? - but if you're in a bad place psychologically, you will think that something is wrong with you no matter how hard you try to change yourself. It's easier to accept yourself than to transform yourself, but this is a harsh world and a shallow world, so sometimes accepting yourself can be a very difficult challenge.

I think the WORST addictions I ever had were smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol. Took me 2 DECADES to finally quit, but it was the best thing I have ever done for myself. I know that's not a "strange" addiction but I was knocking on death's doorstep, it was a very very scary time of my life! To the addicts out there that are still suffering, may God bless you and help you. YOU MATTER, your feelings are valid, and you are deserving of all the good things that life has to offer! This is sooooo crazy. I can't believe people eat/consume these things. When Ib was pregnant, I expressed to my OBGYN that I had desires to eat granulated things that weren't normal, i.e. laundry detergent, coffee, etc. I used to roll my windows down and sniff the fresh asphalt that was being laid and imagining what it would laste like. My doc said as long as I didn't act on my desires everything would be okay. I never acted on it. After I had my son, i found out a friend of mine also had the same symptoms during pregnancy and she eats baby powder. It blew me away the 1st time i saw her do it and she did it so naturally like it was 2nd nature. When I asked her she explained she developed the taste during pregnancy and never grew out of it. So glad I never indulged in my unnatural desire to eat tar! Just wow.... I pray all these people get the medical help they need. As I smoke my cigarettes and drink my wine, I compare my foolish decisions to be no better than thiers.

When I was younger, like over 25 years ago, I smoked cigarettes...and for some reason I liked to lick the tip of my finger and dip it into the ash tray. It tasted like bar b que. It was strange. I didn't do it for long tho and it wasn't an everyday thing. I couldn't see myself do that now. Pretty sad and just gross and not healthy.

These are some of the most disturbing addictions I’ve seen on the internet. Loved ones need to treat this issue like an alcoholic or drug addiction & have a family/friend intervention. If you continue living with someone who does this you are enabling their behavior. Serious medical & psychiatric interventions are needed. I just wonder how many of these people have died since this was filmed. A friend of mine died from a bleeding ulcer after drinking 24 Diet Cokes and taking 20 or more Aleve each day for years. She was warned (like these people) but she would not stop. One day, the ulcer burst, the blood just started flowing from her rectum, and she bled to death even though EMS got there while she was still alive. They broke all of her ribs trying to get her back with CPR, but they could not save her. I'm giving these terrible details so that maybe it will get through to someone who needs to stop. The warnings are real and these people need help to stop before it is too late like it was for my friend who I miss terribly.
