@Justplainme07 my great grandpa had dementia, he began the change in his 70s. My great grandmother took care of him for 27 years by herself until he passed away at age 97. She fed him, bathed him, dressed him and took him for walks in his wheelchair. They celebrated 70 years of marriage and she once said "I'm sad he can't enjoy our golden years like I envisioned we would but he's always going to be my sunshine." My entire life I have wanted to be a wife like her. She was amazing

I wish my dermatologist was as caring as Dr. Emma. My psoriasis isn't nearly as bad as this man's. But I grew up with mine, and it really had a huge effect on my life. It started with a quarter sized spot on one leg, on my shin. I can't remember how long ago it started, but it had to have been before junior high school, because I remember being bullied about it. Actually, probably since at least 9 or 10. It eventually spread to both shins, and one ankle, with the biggest lesion being about the with of my palm, and half the length. The redness and scaring around it were the size of my whole hand. It went away when I was pregnant with my son, and then one leg flared up again, after I had him. It got a little better, over the years. But it was still there. I've had biopsies, and been treated with all manner of creams, which never really worked. I remember one treatment, when I was little, where my mom would put the cream on my legs, and then wrap plastic wrap around them, to keep the cream on while I slept. This only made things worse, really, because the plastic film made my legs sweat, which me even itchier, and then in the morning, when it came off, I'd scratch like crazy. And since my plaques were softened, from having cream on them all night, I'd just scratch the skin right off in places. It really affected my self image. I thought my legs were hideous, and I was embarrassed about them. One of the reasons my husband became my husband, was his sweet, supportive reaction, the first time I showed him my legs. But I still never showed the world. And for a long, long time, I just gave up on ever doing so. I'm 43 years old now, and for half my life, I wore long pants, even in the hottest summers. I hated swimming. And I was envious of girls who could wear cute shorts, or little skirts. I thought I'd never be able to. But a year ago, after lots of encouragement from my son, I finally decided to start wearing shorts again. I had to show him that one shouldn't be ashamed of their body, or care what others think. I always *said* I didn't, and nothing else bothered me. But this was my exception. And I realized-and my son realized-that was hypocritical. So for the first time in 15 years, I started showing my legs when I left the house. My husband and son were proud of me, and I was proud of myself. Now, my psoriasis is in remission, knock on wood and thank God. My ankle is completely clear. I still have some light discoloration where the inflammation was, and white patches where the lesions were. Scarring, from years of scratching, I guess. But I'm proud to show my legs now, and I even got some tattoos on them, to further encourage myself to do so. I feel so liberated. I just wish it hadn't taken so long. But at least I'm there, now.

It is interesting how smoking can flare up a lot of medical conditions.

@@stevensmith4752 smoking is horrible for our bodies. Nicotine is not the problem though. It’s all of the other chemicals they add to cigarettes that make them bad. Also, the smoke is bad on its own. Nicotine, when vaped, is no different than having a coffee. It’s a mild stimulant, at worst.

Psoriasis runs in my family on my Dads side. My great Uncle had it really bad. My Dad had 1 small spot on his head my brother sisters and i all have it but on my sisters it comes and goes but on my brother its always there but mild. I have it in my scalp and behind my ears. I got it at 22. It was a very small patch on my scalp but now it covers 70%. I dont wear dark clothing because of the flakes from my scalp. I use chinese herbal cream which is quite good.

Come to think of it, my psoriasis cleared up when I quit smoking, too. Thing is, while I quit the cigarettes, I *was* still using nicotine replacement. So that makes me wonder if it really is the nicotine exacerbating the problem. Or if it's something else in the cigarettes themselves. They are full of lots of other nasty chemicals...

Possible she started him on prednisone. It’s not a long term solution however. She may prescribe a biologic for the long term such as Dupixent, Skyrizi, or Cosentyx. I believe Julie suggested Rinvoq. You can still get flare ups so she may also prescribe clobetasol cream. This is a topical steroid cream.
