watch part one (the history of ryanair): • How RyanAir Took Over ...
Ryanair was founded in the 80s but the 2010s saw major expansion for the business with them launching three new airlines (Lauda, Buzz and Ryanair UK) and buying another (Malta Air). So in this video we explain this expansion effort & why they did it

Malta Air also operates the Ryanair bases in France, Germany, Vienna, Denmark and Sweden. Buzz has bases in Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Vienna. Lauda has bases in Vienna, London Stansted, and Palma De Mallorca. Vienna has 3 AOCs operating purely due to tax evasion (Crew can only be based there for 6 months before they get a different base, to stay under the 180 day rule)

Indeed, exactly. Only a few aircrafts of Malta Air are really based in Malta. And Buzz is in fact the Ryanair Provider for the EU-Countries in Middle-East-Europe - but Poland plays for Buzz a much bigger role than Malta for Malta Air.

A very insightful video on RyanAir. I like seeing how one corporation branches off into multiple subsidiaries. Whether it be airplane transportation, media outlets, fast food chains, etc, how multiple identities fall under one umbrella never ceases to intrigue me.

1) Lauda's history goes way further, and Ryanair are cashing in on the name. Niki had other airlines previously and pushed for aircraft safety. 2) It was charitable of you not to push harder on Buzz. "We set up a new airline just to have workers with worst conditions" merits more than a passing mention.

yeah point 2 definitely raised an eyebrow like "hmm yes corporation making a regional subsiduary to exploit lack of labour laws" not surprising but definitely shouldn't be a footnote lol

fun fact about buzz: the polish airline can technically be traced back to the UK, as the airline tecnically began as airUK, the airline then got bought by KLM rebranding as KLM uk, KLM uk then launched a subsidiary called BUZZ, BUZZ then got bought by Ryanair, but ceased operations, then Ryanair brought the airline back rebranding Ryanair sun as BUZZ.

6:10 The Laudamotion part is wrong. Niki Lauda bought the Assets of AeroLloyd Austria in 2003 and rebranded the Airline as Niki/FlyNiki. Later Niki was Part of Air Berlin. When they filed for bankrupcy, Niki Lauda bought back Niki and later Ryanair got involved. 😊
@raphaelspub0486
@raphaelspub0486 Жыл бұрын
Well, that part was only omitted. Laudamotion previously being Amira Air is correct, however maybe irrelevant to the Niki Lauda part of the story. TLDR didn't mention Niki (the airline) and its history and especially demise/legacy at all.

As an aircraft enthusiast, I have seen the RYR group grow massively. It seems strange that they took on Lauda, as they operate the Airbus A320, but it was another foothold in the market. I am wondering in time, if Lauda will go over to the Boeing 737-8 Max, for standardisation purposes within the aircraft fleet, as there seems to be new RYR 737-8 Max's being delivered all the time, slowly replacing the Boeing 737-8AS version RYR also operate. The RYR group could become the world's largest operator of the 737-8 Max over the next few years.

I never flew with Ryanair until a month ago when I travelled from Kerry to Dublin. The only issue I had was the return flight was delayed due to weather and an air traffic control strike in France, so I missed my train from Farranfore to Tralee and had to wait 2 hours for the next one. The reason I never flew with them before was because they used to load people on like a bus and I was used to being assigned a seat when on an aeroplane. Being able to book a window seat with the flight changed that. But I think I'll take the train all the way to Dublin next time. I can also book my seat on the train now, the cost isn't much different and I can get to Dublin and get home at similar times of the day with less risk of delays and no airport security screening.

Niki Lauda bought in late 2017 Niki, an Austrian subsidiary of the bankrupt German Air Berlin ("Austrian Solution") and merged it into Laudamotion, which was a pure Businessjet Provider until then. He himself had founded Niki a couple of years early and sold it then to Air Berlin. He took Ryanair for financial reasons into Laudamotuin. Niki Lauda died in 2019 and Ryanair took over the whole company. Lauda Europe operates as single airline of the Ryanair Group an A 320-fleet.

trying to sum up a little bit... So Ryan Air UK is just rejog to add a layer of UK company for UK operation in anticipation of Brexit. A bit of pain in the back side, but nothing major change as the main UK-Ireland routes are still operated between Ryan Air and Ryan Air UK. Buzz was set up to take advantage of the Polish employment law Lauda and Malta Air operate out of Malta to reduce the tax bill.

I only had a chance to fly with them once, out of dozens of flights in Europe. Guess I just don't fly to those destinations much. However, the experience was actually not the worst by any means. The chairs are extra-uncomfortable, but other than that it's a standard low-cost experience. Sure beats other terrible airlines like AirBaltic etc.

I flew to Bordeaux from Dublin a few weeks ago for €50. I dont care about their tacky seats, it would cost me close to that much to get a return train from Dublin to Cork in Ireland. I remember back in the days when a flight like that was a luxury I could only afford every few years for a holiday, these days as I said, its like getting a bus or a train. All because of Ryanair bringing European travel by air to everyone. It's not just them that have low fares either, they forced competition and the other airlines had to lower their fares too but Ryanair is still the best on price by quite a margin.

Reason: Ryan air fares are cheap but train fares to stansted airport is too high and for some reason if trains are on strike, it would cost a fortune to go by taxi. You presented sarcastically the "all Boeing 737-800" as a flaw... it is just a flaw for ignorant... it is one of their smartest options... RyanAir is years ahead of everyone else... and now.... with all costs reductions due to environmental and energy issues... RyanAir will dominate even more... they are just doing things the right way...

I hate flying RyanAir. Some passengers think because it is cheap they can behave badly. I have had enough of sweets being thrown around the plane, people shouting to their friends up and down the plane because they won't pay to sit together. When you use numbers 1-10 in text, you’re supposed to spell out the numbers. There are exceptions, but this video title is not one of them. “How One Airline Security Group Became Five” Your entire operation is just horrible. For a channel that’s supposed to provide news and information, yours are the worst with making blatant mistakes. If you don’t publicly address these mistakes immediately and your willingness to be better, your growth is going to suffer.
