Watch as the Tlingit group Senior Mount Saint Elias Dancers from Yakutat performs at Sealaska Heritage's event Celebration 2018.
Celebration is a biennial festival of Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian cultures held in the Southeast Alaska community of Juneau. The four-day event includes dance performances and associated events such as a Native art market, lectures, a juried art show and competition, traditional food contests, and a parade through downtown Juneau. First held in 1982, Celebration has grown into one of the largest events in Alaska, drawing thousands of people.
Everyone is welcome to this community event, held every even year in June. For information on the next Celebration, visit www.sealaskaheritage.org/inst...

I'm one of the Alaskan tribal babies adopted out to a white family in the mid-1960's (born in Ketchikan and raised in Fairbanks and Anchorage), my birth mother was Tsimshian and Tlingit, father listed as Pennsylvania Dutch. I just want to say to my unknown family in the tribes: I see you, I've paid attention my whole life (I was told of my heritage when I was two years old), and you make me proud of where I came from.

Lately I've been thinking. I think I'm okay with not going home for the next Celebration, then I watch these folks and think I can't miss another Celebration.

These are my people! My mom was adopted out of the Tlingit tribe into the white community in Michigan but now thanks to the internet I can have a moment with my people. I’m Tlingit and Irish…. Love ❤️ my Tlingit folks. I love ❤️ music and dancing but it’s my spirit calling me home. I love the rain!!!! I wish to meet my Tlingit people someday. I want to feel what it’s like to have an energy level connection. I have always loved music. Music 🎶 is my wonderwall. Now that I see how loud my people are it brings my heart home. I love to dance. I love ❤️ a strong beat. Now I see why! I am also a jokester and it’s because my moiety is the Raven!!! Thank you internet. I love my Tlingit people though I’ve never met you. I am part of the stolen generation!!!!!!! My mom I guess more than me but if you steal the mother you steal the grandchildren!!!! My mother was stolen!!!!

I have an Inupiaq mother raised in a catholic orphanage, an Aleut father from Unga, whose father was from Norway. Long ago they were ashamed to be Alaskan natives. I know little about my ancestors. Love these programs. Thank you.
