I love the idea of doing a baby blanket featuring the month a child is born. Small project, small temperature ranges, tied to them specifically. Another abbreviation version is to do a pattern that works for 104 lines and do the high and low each week. Or a temperature scarf.

My daughter and I are crocheting a Temp blanket for the year 1924 for my Dad's 100th birthday this fall. We are making it in mitered granny squares laid out in 12 monthly blocks just like a 1 page printout of the year. She is also having a book made explaining the blanket with a printout of the calendar with the temps and colors. I watched this video and it gave me the idea, we just had to plan it out and start crocheting in batches!!! Thank you for all the great and informative videos that you create. You have really helped both my daughter and I to improve our skills. I just purchased new tunisian hooks and sent her my original ones to learn on now that she is better at regular crochet.

My advice for a temperature blanket first timer is do what you can each day, even if that’s nothing for that day! And don’t be too hard on yourself. Also it’s about the journey not the destination and a Temp Blanket is a jog not a sprint if the that makes sense… ❤

I love the first temperature blanket i made for my husband a few years ago. It was a history of our first year of marriage - starting on our wedding day, including our honeymoon to Jamaica in the middle of a Canadian winter. Very obvious colour change. It was 2 round hexagons so more like a lapghan. Kudos to anyone who completes a temperature blanket in real time!

I've never heard of a temperature blanket until today, but a few years ago I did an oil painting of the view from my window every day for a year. I wish I'd seen your video before I started! I started my 1st and last temp blanket on my 59th bday to commemorate my 60 year journey. I made it for my queen bed and used colors usually associated with the temp range. My mistakes were making the project to big, and using colors that aren't my usual pallet. This year I decided to do a historical temp scarf for the year and city I was born. I will use a pallet more to my ascetic. It will be a more manageable project and I am already looking forward to wearing my history. Thank you Toni for all the information, inspiration and support.

I'm working on a temperature scarf this year and after getting this far, I wish I picked a different stitch. I would suggest making a bunch of swatches of different stitches, letting them percolate for a while, and then picking your stitch. I rushed into it and I regret doing that. So I'm going to work on another scarf next year and this one will be a wall hanging after I crochet or knit a border around it.

I love all your videos Toni, and am very excited to begin this new project! I will be doing a literal temp blanket with traditional colors associated with daily temps each day of 2023. We are building a new house, have been planning it all year and hope to move in December. This year was also historic weather in Austin, since we lost two 100 year old oak trees in our yard during the freeze of January, and lived through record breaking length of 100+ days in July-September. What a year to record! My blanket will have lots of orange and red! Thanks again.

This video is EXACTLY what I needed. Thank you so much. I've been intimidated because I live in Texas and don't want a giant red anything. I decided on a scarf because I'm still uncertain and have ADHD, so a blanket is hard. But a scarf would be ready to wear just as it (finally) gets cold here. I've been planning a temp blanket but it won't be a single, full year--it will be in ten narrow panels (trad. scarf width), each representing a single year from August to May. It'll be to celebrate my 10th year as a middle school english teacher. And I want my students to choose the colors. Your tips and advice has helped me to solidify my plans for it, so thank you!

Thanks Toni! My dad turns 90 in February. I have decided to make him a temperature scarf from the year he was born. Now I just have to figure out how many rows per day to get the proper length. I can't wait to get started.

My yarn just arrived for my 2024 temperature blanket sisters’ CAL!!! So excited!! We are using the moss stitch and doing squares for each month.

I bet it's going to look so lovely with that stitch! How is it going so far? :)

@@diediedice it’s pretty but not too varied just yet. We have had the same weather virtually everyday since January 1st. But today we dipped really low so it has a lavender touch to the blue!!

@@rebecca-yarnbaskettoys I live in Germany. We didn't have a cold winter like this since maybe 2010? It's so unusual. It's stayed between -9°C and 3°C the past 2 weeks :0

I'm currently working on a temperature blanket to commemorate my 47th trip around the sun. My project will run from my last birthday to this upcoming birthday in February. It's a very good tip to allow a month's time for all supplies to arrive when ordering online.

The schedule tip is a big one! I never did a long-term crochet project but I'm finishing up my 1st year of tracking my reading with a specific goal (read for x amount of time a day *on average*). Being able to clock in a few hours ahead of schedule makes the entire thing way less stressful and it's easy to somehow spend an entire afternoon reading/crocheting when you're in the right mood :D

I'm still pretty new to this fantastic craft and I wanted to thank you for your videos. They have been SO helpful. I've saved some I found helpful so I can go back and rewatch. There's such good information that I want to retain it all at some point. PS: I so much love your smile and it makes me happy. You remind me of my little sister and I miss her so much. We are at opposite sides of the country so we don't get to see each other often. Again, thank you 😊

Lol I'm watching this video on new years eve, so not much time for me to plan... that being said, I already got so many ideas from your video, thank you so much for making it easier for people who are less organized, like me! (I think I'll do a wavy blanket based on the tide charts)

Thank you so much. I think I decided on your linen stitch square blanket for 2024. It's my 1sr temp blanket your tutorials are wonderful to follow. Thank you so much for all the tips and advice....❤❤❤❤

I attempted a temp blanket back in 2021 when I was very new to crochet, and did not set myself up for success. I did not size it right so it was going to end up super long and skinny, and to top it off was single crochet. 🫣 Needless to say, I made it to about May lol. Ready to attempt again three years later and am hoping your linen square pattern will keep me motivated! Projects with granny square style construction helps me stay motivated and get a sense of accomplishment whenever I finish a square. Thank you for the pattern!!

I've made a temperature blanket, and I love it! I'm not making another one though (I think). But I can't stress it enough: ❗Choose your stitch wisely!❗ When you have chosen the yarn, then make a swatch in the stitch you want to use, fx 15-20 rows, and measure it, and mutiply it to find out how long 365 rows will be. I used linen/moss stitch for my blanket, and it is 185 cm long! (almost 73 inches/6 feet, I think). Of course it will depend of the .. chunkyness of the yarn too. And Toni, great video as always.😊

Yes! Great mention here. Even the shortest crochet stitches can make a very tall blanket. Working in panels, with lighter weight yarn, or in motifs/columns can help regulate the size of your blanket better.

You convinced me to make my first temp blanket this year and i think I've just been swayed to make another next year. Ive gotten SO demotivated with my current blanket, its becoming a chore. But ive realised its probably because i chose a 'safe' colour pallet of brighter colours because i knew it would look nice. But im all for neutrals. I also think making one chunk per month can get a little tiring, so i might make a square per week instead. I used your linin stitch temp blanket pattern this year and i absolutely adore the stitch and the way the squares work up, i just find myself despising the later, longer rounds each month 😂

I love this. Ive been needing an idea for my son who wants a custom blanket, I think recording the temps for the year he was born would be perfect. Also, I feel like we could be such good friends. I absolutely LOVE your vibe and I have learned so so soooo much from you. Thank you so much. ❤

What a great organizing video. My sister has been wanting a temp blanket for years. She and her hubby have been married 40 years this September and I want to surprise her with a temp blanket from the year they got married. I've been looking for different patterns/ colors/weights for a blanket. I started with yarn weight. Fingering? Sport? Worsted? I think I'm going with sport this year. Pattern is more challenging. I love the blankets that are a row or two a day, but know I'll get bored with that quickly. I'm thinking a modular pattern and have narrowed it down to two. Before the week is out, I'm going to try to knit a square from both of the patterns to get an idea of how much yarn I'll need and how big the blanket will be.
