Wow... I am very happy to see people of my place are thinking the more rational way... I dont know why people pour hatred on him... He is being interviewed and he is sharing his views and he is a singer and he would have done research to spoke it so open... Who are we to judge others thoughts... I find his thoughts very fascinating and I am feeling bad that i have wasted my 24 years of not listening to him... Thanks a lot TM Krishna sir.... :)

Very bad job by ALGEBRA team on framing and choosing the content to talk about with a prodigy of sorts and recluse vocal artist like TM. Or should i say that 'Shoma' is very poor to conduct the conversations about Art. On the other hand i appreciate the patience of Artist TM Krisha, who was continuously being pushed to sing in absence of prerequisites of TM's art (The Canvas : Tanpura and rhythm). The song about the drying up land and absence of rains was very touching. When conversation is about an artform which is sonic and momentary, I would recommend format as 1.Art Demonstration followed by 2. Info graphic and then 3. Snippets of deep issues discussed for interviewing artists you please appoint appropriate artist / curator as anchor who is well versed in arts and handling artists.

Vid TMK, what ever are your views, I wonder your capabilities as an excellent speaker, excellent musician with bhava paravasha. The vilamba kala keertanas of yours are par excellence. For me, classical music or music is always devotional, as I have not time to think of any other thing in life, as the life is so short. But your concern regarding certain art forms receding is true and your efforts to bring them back are laudable. You are right in saying, it is the listerner's autonomy in interpreting the music listened to. And this depends upon the listener's capability or samskara in deciphering and interpreting the music heard. God bless you all the time.

TM Krishna confuses various things . The openness of Hindu tradition has absorbed many good things from various cultures and keeping it alive. Let him go to other countries and preach how the ruling class kept other people, women down. He won't be allowed to talk about issues in the society ( then he will appreciate his freedom of expression). Don't abuse the art because many of the people who practice it have some bad traits

It's only today i am exposed to your music and thoughts on music Mr. Krishna , I haven't listened to you enough but am surprised that your thoughts somehow resonates with mine, not so evolved yet the experience of trying and understanding the music and musicians I strongly feel the magical connection of the sound ( sonic) first then its the sahitya that binds those sounds to create expressions and emotions

He is not the first one to sing on Allah. MS has sung long back. She has sung Mirza Galib, songs in 10 Indian languages & an English song in her UN concert. So there is nothing new about this. Shoma's questions were really fab. I should praise her for it, esp., 1. Didn't Carnatic music evolve from Bhakthi tradition just like Sufi music ? Yes, it did. 2. If one can sing about Allah, why not Rama & Krishna ? Kudos Shoma. Enjoyed.

Now that raises some questions abt brahmins. Weren't carnatic music completely the propriety of Devadasis alone and brahmins got involved only because some brahmins got into illicit relationship with them.As far as I know the brahmins were allowed to sing only before god and brahmins women were barred from singing since they came in comparison with Devadasis if they sing. So TM and others, singing on all topics using carnatic music simply means they are barging into the exclusive freedom given only to devadasis?

The discourse with Thiru. T.M. Krishna is anything but beyond description. He is a revolutionary genius. I feel very deeply about his intent to love for Carnatic music and liberate the riches of it to all communities and to all people who love music. I have to congratulate the Algebra channel for bringing this out and available for all of us. I hope and pray for his success in all his efforts. He seems to bring a discussion amongst us whether Music came first or Bhakt came first!. In other words, whether Music is a result of Bhakti or the Bhakti of a person that gave rise to exquisite Music?

I think TM Krishna is confusing the nautch movement with Devadasis. There doesn't seem to be any evidence that Devadasis were nautch girls. If the interviewer knew anything related to this, instead of some prepared questions, maybe this would have been better.

To say that karnataka sangeetha is steeped in brahminism is an insult to vaggeyakaras like Saint Purandaradasa and Saint Kanakadasa who were neither Brahmins nor brahminical. The core of karnataka sangeetha is bhakti which is open to all irrespective of caste. Karnataka sangeetha is being taught in most of the southern universities and the courses are open to all. No caste considerations. If some students do not opt for classical music, it is their choice. Bringing caste narrative in this is mischievous and motivated.

He is a totally confused artist. He is not walking the talk. He still checks his "shruthi- sa pa sa' the traditional way. I haven't seen him in a concert walking around the stage wearing a jeans and sing a Carnatic number. He still sits in a dhoti to perform. If the 'sahitya' is just a sound, why hasn't he composed a kriti in English? He should adapt a school and teach carnatic music to the non brahmins. And start a new culture and practice that's completely different from the present tradition. TMK is a genius... he could inspire the western pop stars to shed their crazy ways and influence them to sit in one place while performing. And that I will call a disruptive act.

Every art form has a unique identity and flavor to it. Incidentally, Carnatic art form predominantly is built around the divine, more specifically contextualized to Vendantic traditions of South India. Of course as TM Krishna rightly points out there are compositions(eg.Javalis) that delve on a relationship between two lovers, very material in nature. However the DNA of carnatic music's is around Vendantic Hindu traditions and the music itself traces to the Vedas in origin. A fact that TM Krishna conveniently chooses to ignore. TM Krishna tries to force fit his leftist ideology on to this and fails miserably. Caste barriers are non-existent in this art form. KJ Yesudas, Rajaratinam Pillia, Dwaram Naidu, Sheikh Chinna Maoulana, Jon Higgins and a composer like Kanakadasa were NOT from the so-called Brahminical backgrounds and yet they flourished. Thus his caste spin falls flat on its face. The beauty of art lies in preserving its uniqueness that needs to be valued, respected and enjoyed . I wish TM Krishna good luck in trying to eat idlies with kheer, rotis with sambar and biryanis with gulab jamoons & will wait to see how, to borrow is own words, "these interesting intersections, conversations shape up". "Lets see what happens "

Absolutely. He says Kshetrayya's songs are erotic. I don't know which pervert explained to him that his compositions are erotic. I appreciate his effort to make the classical singing non-religious . Brahmin hegemony on classical music is well known. But it is the same brahmins who have helped many underprivileged people to learn this wonderful art. Yesudas is a classical example of such an act. But this guy, in his bid to question few fundamentalists, he is going off the mark. Hope wisdom dawns on him.
