Some more points for your information... A madisaar Sari is 9 yards long and worn differently from the usual six yards Sari. Smt. Visakha Hari wears the madisaar Sari for all her performances. The pallu of the Sari is thrown over the right shoulder instead of the left shoulder. The strict control exerted on M. S. S by her husband (according to you) eventually earned her the highest and the most coveted Civilian Award as 'Bharat Ratna'. Wearing ear rings, nose rings and silk sari are not exclusive for the Brahmins. Anyone who can afford these wears these. When you view things through a tinted glass called bias or prejudice, everything will appear colored.

To the host: Ranjani Gayatri didn’t say TM Krishna shouldn’t get the award. They just said they didn’t want to participate on the same stage where he presides over. Just as TMK exercised his freedom of speech to say what he wanted, just as the Academy exercised their right to give the award to TMK, RaGa should be able to exercise their right to participate in that conference. I have zero vested interest in the outcome of this debate. Saying this as someone who has watched many interviews and read what RaGa wrote.

Pramadham! Since 2018 I picked up a little stronger interest in indian classical music. Since then I had the wonderful privilege of staying for a brief period with respected Abraham Pandidhar's son's family and get an introduction into Indian music. (They were wonderful people, n it was a splendid opportunity!) From that time I have been trying to learn little by little whenever I find time. It is a treasure to know Tamil isai. I initially thought it was brahmin music, although I did begin to observe that carnatic music was far more complicated n complex than hindustani. So I had a doubt that just as Tamil is the first n common language of all humanity seems to be coming together on the indus valley civilization matter, if music was also originally codified by the Tamils. Now by the great interview of the show host n the even greater talk by respected Marudhaian Sir, the facts are lining up. Phenomenal! Love n deep respect to my extended Tamil family everywhere. There's nothing superior or arrogant about according credit n honor where it's due, Dravidian or Aryan, in this case (as in many others) Dravidian. They worked for it! Regards.

Good interview with all historical background. One thing, all the string instruments of current Carnatic music has origin that has links to roman periods, especially byzantine period. When Tamil music transferred hands to brahmins, that was the time period the European and Islamic sting instrument took roots in Carnatic music. The obvious one is Harmonium indian instrument box. Before that nadaswaram, was the sole Tamil music instrument and then tambura, which originally was islamic instrument then took shape as Harmonium.

With all due respect, if we knew about the talent of these Dalit christians, you and others who were aware, including other rich dalit christians and people of other castes, should have promoted them a long time back, These instruments are used by many in the film music world also. why did they not promote and bring them to light? There are many many such arts and talents that are hidden in our past and still protected only by a handful of communities. They will not share those secrets with anyone else either (just as you accuse the vedic brahmins of protecting the vedic knowledge!). Else, these arts would have become part of any course curriculum in our universities. Why accuse only the present Brahmin artists of neglecting them when they probably did not even know about the existence of such communities and their works? How many people wonder about the origin of the instruments or the products they use everyday? How many film industry artists ponder over the origin of the western instruments they use and pay tributes to their artisans? It is ok for one to enlighten people about such knowledge through books and other media but to make it casteist against Brahmins is wrong. (which is what the author of the book did). We still need to remember that it took a so-called Brahmin to write a book and bring these facts to light! What the other artists don't agree with is making it a Caste-issue against Brahmins. Even if the origin of carnatic music lies in ancient Dravidian culture, as you claim, it still has evolved into a separate genre in the present format as it exists today through the Bhakti movement over the past many hundreds of years that it has its own identity and needs to be respected irrespective of origins (If ghana pattu , with no clear origins, can enjoy a separate status in cinema today, so can carnatic music! I do enjoy listening to ghana pAttu, don't get me wrong). Your argument is weak. I am not a Brahmin or a carnatic musician btw. [Most of Tamil Nadu cannot pronounce the uyirezhuttu 'ழ' in Tamil correctly while all the so-called vandhEri pArppaNargaL, as you refer to them, can pronounce it precisely! Makes you wonder who has stronger roots to the Dravidian culture. Our Tamil speech today is hardly reflective of the Sangam Tamil (which is mostly protected only in the Malayalam language today, if you care to compare); does that mean that we are not speaking Tamil?] I am open to knowledge and enlightenment but when it becomes colored with hate and is propagated with an agenda as this video demonstrates, it is hardly palatable. I will have to defend the Maha Periyavar here. He clearly stated that being the pontiff of a particular religion, he was constrained by his uniform to only expound what was in the scriptures. It was not his role to achieve social reform. He also advised everyone to think for themselves, and if they could not accept his teachings, they should be free to act according to their conscience. Religion is only needed for people who are unable to decide right or wrong for themselves.
